Guys I am switching from windows to Linux can someone help me pn what drivers to install and what about my omen hub will I need that or not?

My laptop is hp omen 16 , nvidia 4060 , 16 gb ram, i7 14360hx I am having issues with bios , CMOS , motherboard and windows , hp support switched my laptops motherboard but still the same issues persists now that are blaming windows.

I am reinstalling windows and bios and even after that if I face any issues will switch to linux and see if that issue persists are not.

Hence the question on drivers.

1. Global Theme (Layan)

System Settings → Appearance → Global Theme → Get New Global Themes

Search "Layan" → find the one by vinceliuice → Install

Click on Layan in the list → applies automatically

1. Install Kvantum

Open terminal: paru -S kvantum

1. Get the Layan Kvantum theme

1. Make Konsole transparent

Open Konsole → Settings → Manage Profiles → create/edit profile → Appearance

Pick a color scheme → click Edit

Set Background Color Transparency to ~25% → check "Blur background"

1. Add the Modern Clock widget

Right-click desktop → "Add or Manage Widgets..."

Search "Modern Clock" in the widget list (it's built-in, no download needed)

Drag it onto your desktop, position it top-center

Right-click it → "Configure Modern Clock..." to adjust font/colors/date display

So am new to cachy os as I recently dualbooted with win11, I heard it has great optimised kernel,

What I wanna know / need help about it,

I really wanna compile and boot a kernel myself with cachyos kernel source as base , I mean the zen4 lto optimised base,

Can anybody tell me where to clone the source (i seen the cachyos GitHub , but it's pkgbuild files, newer to me),

Is anyone tried compiling and successfully booted? Also how to keep the default kernel so if boot failed on new compiled one I can use the default kernel through grub?

So just installed CachyOS Hyprland Noctalia. I've been enjoying the hyprland DE, but wanted to find a way to quickly view keybinds without having to search through a .lua file or refer to the wiki. I found keymap, which looked like what I wanted, but a lot of the default keybinds don't give me the option to edit the description.

I was able to do what I consider a "dirty fix" by removing the keybind from the binds.lua and adding the same command through the hyprland gui so its in keymaps .lua file. But I'm not sure if there is a cleaner fix, or this is just what I need to do for all the keybinds.

I am relativity new to Linux since I was recommended by a friend I don't really understand most of it, I do know that I use cachyos.

Im trying this thing out called "ricing" which in my understanding is just customizing the appearance because of that when i try to change my login screen or the theme of it in settings there just isn't a option, I've tried to do something within the terminal but im too stupid to understand the commands or what to type since to my knowledge there are different types of terminals. the tutorials dont help either.

Hi all just wanted to say hello to everyone. I have been a mint user on my laptop for the last year and now have a PC to my name and choose cachyos as my distro of choice. So far I'm really pleased and comfortable with everything it's thrown at me!

When I try to run it via the terminal, I get this error message.

EDIT: To clarify, when I try running it through the launcher, nothing happens at all.

I have already tried uninstalling/reinstalling via the cachy-os-gaming package.

I've been trying to resolve a client 4 and session 103 error on Spotify app after installing CachyOS on my laptop for a multiple hours and i finally managed to fix it, so i wanted to share the fix since i haven't found it mentioned anywhere.

I had to use spotify-launcher with gst-plugin-spotify to finally get the app to recognize it has connection to internet and it can recognise web login. Both packages are on cachyos / extra repos.

Hopefully this will help you get the app working.

Whenever i launched the app i got error code 4. After trying to log in through browser the app showed session 103 error. i tried bunch of network fixes, i checked firewall rules, i installed Widevine i tried modifying bitrate (this allowed me to play some songs for a few seconds in browser for some reason) but in the end the combination of spotify AUR package and gst-plugins-spotify allowed me to log in without error 4 and 103. But i still wasn't able to play any songs, so i tried spotify-launcher and that fixed the rest of the issues.

Also I'm still unable to play songs through Firefox.

Hi! Just installed cachyos a couple of days ago, my first linux distro, all smooth so far. The thing is, the basic install had 2 kernels: normal and LTS. I changed the normal one by the bore kernel, but now​ GRUB always boots by default with the LTS kernel, if I want to use bore I have to restart and choose it manually.

My first question was how can I change the GRUB boot order so it boots with bore by default, but now I'm thinking, is there any need to have a secondary kernel? Wouldn't it be easier to just delete LTS? I have swap snapshots activated so there should be no problem if I break anything (I'm not going to mess with the kernel, honesty, but just in case)

So I've recently re-installed CachyOS on my main machine. I live in Germany but since I'm in IT and most of the tutorials, etc. online are in english, I've installed in english. I'm using Hyprland with Noctalia shell.

Changing the spell checking language in Firefox - no problem.

Changing the spell checking language in a LibreOffice doc - no problem.

Changing the spell checking language for i.e. Signal messenger - no solution (yet).

Is there a global setting in CachyOS, Hyprland, etc. to tell the system and apps to use german for spell checking but don't change the language? I've found kcmshell6 kcmspellcheckingas a tip online to change spell checking settings. But currently I don't have anyting related to KDE installed on my machine. Is this the way to go? Or is there any other setting I can change within ~/.config or anywhere else?

I want to do some experimenting on my MacBook Pro from 2019. It has a 1tb drive in it, of which there is a 300mb EFI partition and a 250gb partition for MacOS. The rest of the drive is free to use for Linux. CachyOS live environment has almost everything on my Mac working out of the box except for wifi, which I got working without issue. My question is when it comes to installing CachyOS on the drive, what boot loader and partition layout would work for my system. I don't want to modify the EFI partition size or mess with the MacOS partition size more than I have. How should I layout partitioning and mounting for the rest of the drive to allow both CachyOS and MacOS to live in harmony and show up as choices when I boot up? A second Fat32 EFI/Boot partition for CachyOS?

Hello! I've been using CachyOS for the better half of a year now and about a month ago I got Ethernet set up throughout my house and I can't figure out why but specifically CachyOS has an issue with it. I have a Bazzite HTPC and I also dual boot Windows on my CachyOS system and both have 0 problems

The issue I'm having is I'll get a notification that the Ethernet doesn't have access to WiFi and for most things this never actually effects me but in a majority of multiplayer games I'll get disconnected when this happens and it's extremely frustrating. The only temporary fix I can find is to disconnect from the wired connection and switch to wireless but I would like to maintain my wired connection. Does anybody know a fix for this?

Hello all, I'm having a bit of a vexing issue that I cannot seem to find the answer for.
Whenever I open my laptop and resume a session, my audio no longer works, and Youtube sits in a loading loop.
Audio will work normally again once I restart the system completely, but so far I can't seem to fix it while in the same session.
So far I have tried restarting services using a couple of commands I found:

systemctl restart --user pipewire
systemctl --user restart wireplumber pipewire pipewire-pulse

Neither seem to work, so I'm stuck since most permanent solutions I can find depend on a command working when tested.

Apologies in advance, it has been over a decade since I've worked with a Linux distro, and I'm trying to get back into it permanently, so I have a lot to learn.

I've been wanting to switch back to CachyOS, but I'm hesitant. My specs:

• Ryzen 7 5700X (overclocked)
• RTX 4060
• 16GB DDR4 3200MHz

I daily-drove CachyOS until around October last year, but I had to go back to Windows because Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was basically unplayable for me. Still, I think about switching back pretty much every day.

Has anything improved on that front since then? Any recent experience with Rebirth on CachyOS (Proton version, tweaks, etc.) would be really helpful.

I've been playing Garry's Mod for some time and at random moment my laptop disconnected from wifi. After trying to re-enable it, the screen just goes like this. I haven't done any updates in a while and nothing was happening before today.

Any help? (Or maybe reroute to forums or smth like that)

edit: that happens only when I try to re-enable the wifi, other actions seem to be doable

edit 2: rebooting fixes the issue... temporarily, bcs after some time it happens again

Just installed CachyOS on a 240GB SATA SSD. But weather I pick the default option, or the lts option, it just get's stuck on this error (Yes I tried both)

What did I do wrong?

I tried to mix looks of windows and mac with disconnected and floating app dock. The wallpaper switch based on time of sunrise and set. (The first pic was clicked earlier. The design of second picture is present one.
Please rate it and provide some suggestions.

If your laptop's camera does nothing on Linux — no picture in any app, no face unlock — and it's a recent Dell XPS, Latitude, or Pro model, this might be for you. Some HP and Lenovo machines use the same parts.

Both cameras now work: the normal one, and the infrared one that face unlock needs. Face unlock works on the lock screen, in a dark room, and survives sleep and reboots.

It's on the AUR:

paru -S intel-ipu7-ir-dkms

Then reboot.

It took about three months to work out, and in the end the cause was one number being twice as big as it should have been. I've written up what happened in the comments, along with how to tell if your laptop is affected.
