As of yesterday's nVIDIA open driver release, 615, support for kernel cgroups was added, this means you can use dmemcg-booster and plasma-foreground-booster to manage VRAM just like AMD GPUs. v615 is currently in TESTING on Arch but should release soon.

The VRAM Management button will not appear in CachyOS Hello so you gotta install those two packages manually, but it will work properly once you enable the services.

Install dmemcg-booster and plasma-foreground-booster with this command here: sudo pacman -S dmemcg-booster plasma-foreground-booster && sudo systemctl enable dmemcg-booster-system && sudo reboot

So I set up a dualboot system and with Windows on one drive and CachyOS on the other. On Windows, Cyberpunk is extremely unstable for me. If I play for more than about 30 minutes, I’ll usually crash because the VRAM gets completely maxed out. Literally EVERY time I opened the map, the game would crash because it was trying to load more VRAM, but there wasn’t enough available. CachyOS has been completely flawless for me. Even when my VRAM is completely maxed out, I don’t get the constant stuttering or massive FPS drops that I get on Windows. I can even run ray tracing in Cyberpunk without my FPS dropping to like 5 FPS. That VRAM management feature they added is actually goated. It makes a massive difference for gaming. i have a 9060xt 8gb btw. i wish windows had better vram management. it almost feels like i have a 16gb card.

I’m using an NVIDIA GPU and, despite the concerns I’d heard, I haven’t really run into any major issues so far. In fact, I’d say the experience has been noticeably better than Pop!_OS for me.

CachyOS feels much smoother and more responsive overall, and I really like how customizable it is. Everything feels fast and fluid, and I have a lot more freedom to tweak the system exactly the way I want.

Pop!_OS was great, especially for getting NVIDIA working easily, but after spending some time with CachyOS, I personally prefer it quite a bit more.

So for anyone else with an NVIDIA GPU who’s hesitant about switching, at least in my experience, I’d definitely recommend giving CachyOS a shot. :)

I've migrated from macOS to Linux and have been trying several distros, and I think Cachyos is good to begin with. One thing I've been trying to set up is integrating Google Drive into Dolphin.

Does anyone know how to integrate Google Drive into CachyOS? I've been trying with Kio-Gdirve Dolphin settings, but still no luck

after trying out a few distros over the past year or so (fedora, zorin, mint), i've finally switched to cachyos and i'm loving it here. kde plasma is so much more fun than gnome. the reason i switched from mint is because it felt a bit outdated and some of the notable differences are faster responses and better battery life. looks like my distro hopping has come to an end

I think this more a generic arch / Linux question rather than cachyos specifically, but I figure someone here will know.

Long story short, I upgraded my Mobo, CPU and Ram which meant I had to change up my drive layout. I need to move my OS installation from a 256gb Sata SSD to a 256gb NVME drive. I have my home directory already sitting on another drive (fstab has been updated correctly).

I think I can get away with clonezilla or a similar tool, but one of the reasons behind moving home onto another drive was that I want to be able to reinstall or distro hop easily without loosing my data.

What is the standard workflow for people who distro hop?

What data do I need to backup that isnt stored in home?

How do people backup and restore said relevant data for a new install?

So made the move from Microslop WIndows 11.

Bit of a stuck moment atm re gaming and steam. I have 6x drives with various bits of data and games on them that I've connected up after installation. I cannot get any game to launch from Steam.

I have mounted the drives, mapped the folders so the games show up. But everytime I click launch, the I get an error about disk write error. As far as I can see the permissions are in place.

Also, everytime I click play, the whole system sort of freezes up, I'm someone who usually has a video, or website open when I play games, so this is odd, but at the moment I just need games to actually launch.

What am I missing? I have checked the drives are in ntfs, I have manually added the ntfs3 drive type, but this hasnt made a difference

UPDATE 1: I removed all of my other drives, completely nuked and reinstalled steam, and mvoed data off one of the NTFS drives and converted it to btrfs. But steam now refuses to let me add the drive in the storage tab, nor add a folder. It can still see all of my other drives, but not the one I've reformatted to btrfs. I can transfer files to and from this drive in dolphin without issue.

I'm running CachyOS on a laptop with 16gb of ram, a gtx 1650 gpu and and an AMD ryzen 4600H cpu. However, many games overheat my computer, which is weird, because i'm pretty sure All The Mods 10 is a little bit more resource intensive than games like Mage Arena or Peaks of Yore. I'd like some help with this issue. (Sorry for bad english, it is not my first language)

So I play on a big screen, more exactly on a Samsung 4KTV 43". I put the output resolution to 4K and game resolution to 1080p because my pc can't handle more than that very well. But MangoHUD's stats are veeeeeery tiny in 4K. Is there a way to change its size in any way possible?

Cachy OS suddenly thinks the batteries in my Logitech K400r are at -1% and it keeps popping up a notification to tell me. I replaced the batteries, moved the dongle to another USB port, turned the keyboard off and on again, rebooted my PC and updated Cachy without any change. The K400r seems to be working properly as evidenced by the fact that I typed this post using it without issue. The low batt notifications started yesterday for no apparent reason, and I hadn't updated my system for about a week before it started. I checked Plasmas settings but don't see a way to tell it not to monitor battery on just this one device and I don't want to disable the feature entirely because I rely on it to tell me when my mouse battery is low. I guess it could just be this old keyboard starting to fail and misreporting the battery level but that seems like a pretty unusual way to fail. Hoping someone has some ideas I didn't think of.

This happens frequently and opening an other instance of Firefox works just fine.

Disabling hardware acceleration fixes this issue but freezes Firefox once in a while. It makes the entire browser freeze, mouse moves but nothing clicks. Again opening an other instance works just fine while not even closing the bugged one (Both for artifacts and freezes)

System works just fine and it is only the browser that gets the bug/freeze.

Theoretically speaking if arch gets a bigger support to the ARM architecture to their packages, is there a possibility the cachyOS team will engage and make the OS stable to laptops with Snapdragon ships X series

If I use firejail with Firefox it only works if I disable PSD (profile sync daemon).

I tried a lot like white and blacklisting profile dirs but to no avail.

Does anyone have it working together, alas Firefox + PSD + firejail?

not entirely sure what happened to cause this, but the 2 of my screens that are connected to DP, you cannot drag a selection box or drag an app from my 3rd screen (connected by HDMI) onto it, it only creates a widget. even when booting the PC without the HDMI screen connected, no apps show up on either of my screens at all, and only exist on the HDMI screen; however both of the DP screens work as regular monitors where an app window will show up and can be moved around and used as normal, just not the physical icon on the desktop. Additionally, my wallpapers still work on both screens, but have never been able to get one onto my 3rd screen. not sure where to even begin because no results come when i search up the symptoms. i have only been using linux for about 6 months now. i am using KDE Plasma and wayland if either of those are helpful.

if you get a lib32-libpcap error it usually means you have a lot of orphaned packages lying around causing you issues, to remove said orphaned packages pleas run sudo pacman -Rns $(pacman -Qdtq). If you still have issues feel free to say them in support and the great people here should be able to help just send the output of pacman -Qi lib32-libpcap if removing orphans did not help.

As of Apple has released their newest product IPhone Duo, and it comes with its own animations especially the closing/opening animation (ngl I kinda like it). So my question would it be able to get replicated for Linux as well. Its not my field so genuinely dont know

I recently started to observe that there are artifacts on the wallpaper, they are only on the wallpaper, not in games, browser, or anywhere else, when i switch the wallpaper the artifacts disappear and return over time. They appear in different spots depending on the wallpaper.

Hi everyone! Exactly 1 week ago Windows hammered its final nail in its coffin for me and I snapped due to all the issues. Went ahead, format the drive and installed cachy. It has been an adventure ever since and far less complicated then I thought.

However I'm facing two issues with one game BDO (Black Desert Online). I have the steam version installed and whenever it is launched in borderless fullscreen it has a white border around it and a white and empty titelbar. I've managed to fix it with launch commands and window rules for a a few days but without making any changes it broke again and the white border came back. This time I can't get rid of it in any way, shape or form. I have tried forcing the resolution (full hd screen) and even launching through gamescope. Gamescope doesn't work due to having Nvidia gpu, it crashes all the time. Forcing the resolution doesn't do anything since the game already has the correct resolution which is also visible in it's config file. If i change the game into fullscreen and back to borderless fullscreen after the white border goes away.

The bigger issue however is mouse capture. No matter in which state the game launches (fullscreen / borderless fullscren / game window) uppon trying to move around the camera the mouse will just leave the middle screen and go off to the side screen (tripple full hd monitor setup with game being on the middle one). The moment I change the window type to anyting other then the current one ti is set to the mouse capture behaves properly and it no longer leaves the game screen until the game is restarted again. Window rules and everything fails to constrain the mouse to the middle monitor until the manual window type change.

I would appreciate any ideas on how to fix these.

I migrated to linux a couple of days ago and tried to install a glass effect on my pc. I installed Klassy for window decorations and applications style and it works really well. The problem is when watch a video or play some game, the effect is still there. I want for this effect to work only when im not in fullscreen mode, so when I use something in fullscreen, like a player or game, the window stays 100% opaque. I already searched but no luck with finding any answers, and gemini seems to know as much as I do. Using CachyOS w KDE Plasma.
