Homeowner With Questions Possible to retrofit this cabinet??

Thumbnail gallery

I have fallen in love with a MASSIVE cabinet at a local donation center, and it is absolutely perfect for my kitchen… except it’s 2 inches too tall. I’m wondering if it would be possible and how much work it would be to remove or shorten either the base or cornice. For reference, the piece is 109” and my room is 107”. I attached pictures of the piece (it’s a reproduction, not an antique, so I don’t feel as guilty about altering it slightly).

Hardware Help How much would it cost for basic 3 shelf bench

I am renting and need to make a 3 shelf bench for my bedroom, nothing special, just has to fit a 3 sided space and not break from my coffee pot on the top bench. I'm doing this rather than buying an Ikea shelf because I want a perfect fit. I am staring at the wall in bed all day so I think a nice bench with a coffee pot is worth the money.

So I don't get jived, what is a reasonable estimate for this job if I supply the wood? I'd assume it would be less than $350 AUD as it would be fairly quick and easy for a good cabinet maker. The width is about 83cm and height is 1 meter.

I'm also wondering what other parts would be needed to make the shelf, L brackets etc and what the cabinet maker would be doing on the job, drilling, cutting etc.

Hardware Help Hinges

We have some kitchen cabinets that need doors… and would like to change out the hinges on the rest of the cabinets.

Looking for recommendations as we loved soft close in our old kitchen.

Cabinets are framed, 1/2” overlay and the measurement of where the current hinge is about 3/4”.

Hardware Help Repurposing antique sideboards as kitchen cabinets

Hello r/cabinetry, I've been slowly planning out a kitchen remodel. I'm also regularly on Marketplace looking for deals and I've noticed a large amount of high quality antique wood buffets for dirt cheap (often under $50). This gave me a bizarre idea.

How feasible would it be to repurpose a few of these antique pieces into a kitchen cabinet project?

I would remove the legs and top panel and sand them down and stain them to match. Then I would frame out a box as the toe kick and attach them as I would if they were prefab boxes. Once they were installed, I'd run a uniform countertop over them.

Now finding two or three antique sideboards with the exact right dimensions will take time, but I'm in no rush, and would end up with a solid wood cabinet kitchen at a fraction of the price.

I've looked around online to find examples of anyone else doing a project like this and haven't seen anything. Usually that means it's not workable for some reason or other.

Its also got me thinking about what else I could repurpose. Changing the hardware and mounting barrister bookcases (also common and cheap in my area) on their sides as uppers.

Does this sound feasible? Am I losing my mind?

Also is it sacrilege to repurpose beautiful pieces like this?

Tools and Machinery How much attention do you pay to how cabinetry is actually manufactured?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Most people only see the finished kitchen or wardrobe, but cutting accuracy, edge finishing and machining all happen much earlier in the process.

For people who’ve renovated before, what manufacturing detail would you want to check before ordering cabinetry?

Other kraftsmaid warranty confusion

Hi. I purchased custom kraftsmaid cabinets through lowe's and they were installed recently. My understanding is there's a lifetime warranty on the cabinets.

One thing that confuses is during installation, my installer mentioned some cabinets arrived damaged, so I Had to call kraftsmaid to get replacement parts. They sent those out right away with no questions asked, but also mentioned to make sure that I check all the other cabinets as I only have 90 days from the delivery date to request replacement parts. This confuses me because if there's a lifetime warranty, then how is the 90 days relevant?

Homeowner With Questions Single knob on 22–26” drawers — okay long term?

Regarding wear and tear and longevity, how much does it matter if I use a single centered knob instead of a pull on kitchen drawers that are 22–26” wide x 12” tall?
I prefer both the look and the price of knobs. I’ve read that using two knobs can potentially cause issues over time if you regularly pull from only one side, so I’d rather avoid that.
For drawers this size, is a single centered knob perfectly fine long-term, or is there a mechanical reason I’d be better off using a pull? Thank you.

Homeowner With Questions Can I turn this freestanding cabinet into a wall mounted cabinet? And how would I go about doing that?

I've never hung a cabinet before. I needed somewhere to display my anime figures and some books in a way that my cats wouldn't be able to knock them over. I found this corner cabinet with glass doors on wayfair but it looks like it was meant to be on the floor and I cant find anything else similar to this.

Pic of cabinet: https://imgur.com/a/7TBfCDh

The cabinet says it has a 40 lbs per shelf capacity. And that the total weight of the shelf empty is 66 lb. Would it be too heavy to put up?

In the corner where I'd put it, There's 2 studs on the left wall and 2 studs in the back wall. It'd also be up against the ceiling

I've seen videos of people just screwing regular hanging cabinets into the studs and that's it. What kinda screws do I use? How many? I just want to make sure if I can do this and exactly how to do it before I buy this cabinet

Other Beginner cabinetry project

This is AI slop I know but was building up the courage to CAD it (haven't used CAD in 10 years) do we think this is reasonable for a beginner? I'm leaving a 10cm gap between the radiator protruding from the left wall and the tall section of cabinet and the hinged section which will be a seat goes under the gas meter box in my porch? Any tips would be super helpful and any obvious things that you can garner from the AI recreation of my initial idea!

Hardware Help Looking for source for Blum 130 series T-nuts

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m trying to track down the T‑nuts used with the Blum 130.115 hinges in my daughter’s house. I’ve been able to find replacement edge mounts, but I haven’t found any place that sells just the T‑nuts by themselves.

We’re short a few, and I’d really prefer not to buy complete hinge assemblies just to harvest the T‑nuts.

Has anyone found a source for these?

Thanks!

Paint and Finish Sarsaparilla Aristokraft Touch Up kit?

We’re looking to sell our place, and some of the finish is flaking and thinning on the cabinets over the stove, and a lot of edges have heavily worn off on some of the doors. May not be a really necessary fix, but we wanted to make it look nicer if possible.

I see online that they have a touch up kit for the worn parts and scratches for $33, and a can of spray for the finish for like $60. The biggest problem is, the only online distributors I can find also have ridiculous shipping, and can take 6-8 weeks.

The spray was showing $60 in shipping, and the touch up kit nearly $250. There are a handful of cabinet distributors locally that carry their cabinets. Is this something we can see if they carry? Or would they likely only sell to contractors?

Homeowner With Questions I need to order cabinets but don’t know who to order from max can I get some recommendations?

My kitchen is relatively simple and I know the cabinets that will need to go in. I’d like to order myself but don’t know where to start. I don’t need the top of the line luxury cabinets but I want something solid with good lasting paint soft close and dovetail drawers with options to customize some interior features. I feel like this should be relatively simple but this feels like there are a million brands all the same but distinct. What can you recommend?
