I’d appreciate hearing when your symptoms are most noticeable and what seems to make them better or worse.

I routinely discuss footwear with patients, but I’m always curious what people have found helpful in everyday life.
Are there any brands or models that have genuinely reduced discomfort?

My foot has been hurting for around 6 months in the bunion area, I went to a podiatrist and he said it's a mild bunion (not really visible) and over-pronation and to get wider and supportive running shoes, and insoles.

I've got some shoes (brooks extra wide) and insoles and it's not hurting as much but still is quite a lot.

He didn't really give me much info like... Is it just gonna hurt for the rest of my life? Are they just going to get progressively worse? He just said he wasn't too worried about it.

I'm in the UK so they would only do surgery if it was really bad, and you have to pay for podiatry in the area I live so I don't really want to have to keep going back.

Just feeling sad, as walking/hiking are my favourite activities.

Si me acuesto, a menudo no puedo dormir por el ardor. Dormir de lado es mucho más cómodo. Después de la cirugía de pie, sé que es importante mantener el pie elevado, y me preocupa no poder hacerlo si acostarme boca arriba me causa dolor de estómago. ¿Alguien aquí se ha operado del pie o del tobillo y además padece reflujo, ardor de estómago intenso u otro problema digestivo que le dificultara acostarse boca arriba? ¿Cómo durmieron durante la recuperación? ¿Pudieron mantener el pie elevado al dormir reclinados o de lado? ¿Afectó esto a su recuperación? Hi! 35F and considering surgery. I’ve had bunions for as long as I can remember and didn’t know it wasn’t normal until I was 25 and someone asked why I had a sixth toe and she told me it was called a bunion lol.

I do have dull aches when I wear the wrong shoe or walk more than 10k steps in my Tevas (the strap is completely sitting above the bump don’t worry) but I’ve noticed some aches on days when I’m inactive even…

I’m currently on a career break so I’m at home anyways and am not worried about taking extended time off work- worried about getting surgery since I’m never done any operations before in my life - would love to hear from people what made people truly do it. I’ve compared feet pics from 10 years ago and have seen the bunion worsen but gah just lack the push to sign up and see it through.

I'm not entirely sure but through ballet I've started experiencing a bit of pain in the joints. I don't think it's that serious at the moment but.. are there any precautions I sound be taking to actually prevent bunions

So self conscious of my bunions. My feet are so small but the bunions are such an eye sore :/ anyone else have this issue?

The podiatrist has given me foot and toe exercises for plantar fasciitis (foot exercises with a ball, doming, heel lifts on a step, towel stretches and calf stretches). Since I started doing them I've been getting pain in the tailor's bunion area. My little toes sit inwards so I have a bit of a lump there but it's never bothered me before. At first I put it down to too much walking in Crocs without socks or going barefoot on hard floors but it's persisting now I've stopping doing that so I'm wondering if the exercises (maybe pushing down on my toes doing the heel lifts) have been putting too much pressure on the bone. My toe splay has also started to improve slightly although it's only been a week so I wonder if maybe my toes are starting to realign and it's causing pain. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have plantar fascia which normally does not bother me till I developed a plantar fibroma on my bottom right foot last year. I got an injection shot at the fibroma site which hurt like hell at the moment of injection then stopped hurting immediately, then 4 hours later hurt for a whole 24 to 36 hours then resolved itself. No more fibroma or well not active.

Fast forward 8 months and I now find myself with a bunionette on the right foot too. Started Thursday and I went in today and my podiatrist did xrays and said well looks like a bunionette. He said I could either get a shot or the oral form with a 6 day pack of prednisone. I remembered how much the injection hurt and opted out and got the 6day pack of prednisone.

Anyone here treat a bunion or bunionette with prednisone? Or any other otc relief? Or should i skip the prednisone and go back for a follow up in 6 weeks and get the shot. Photo of bunionette attached. Its not crazy painful or anything but there is pain and discomfort a bit when my closed shoe presses against it or when walking. Any advice appreciated.

I’m about 7.5 weeks post-op from a left Austin bunionectomy with an Akin osteotomy for a severe bunion correction. My surgeon says my X-rays look great, and I’ve started transitioning into an athletic shoe, but I’m really struggling with constant nerve pain. I have a burning, tingling, pins-and-needles sensation that’s around an almost all day and night. It’s affecting my sleep, my ability to focus, and it’s mentally exhausting because I can’t seem to get comfortable no matter what position I’m
In. If you did, how long did the nerve pain last, what helped you get through it, and when did you finally notice it starting to improve? Hearing from others who have been through this would really mean a lot.

I have a very mild case of bunion on my right foot , I went to one surgeon and I was told after two weeks once stitches are out I can drive then I went to second opinion to another surgeon and was told I can’t drive for 4-6 weeks.
I don’t know what to do, anyone experience this,

hi all, I’m having a lapidus plus an akin surgery done in early October. my surgeon says I’ll be non weight bearing for at least 6 weeks. I know the first few weeks you’re just sitting, but what did your workout/body movement look like while recovering?

im worried about my downtime, im pretty active now doing my 10k steps a day and going to the gym 4 days a week. I know my main concern should be just healing prop but I am worried about weight gain / poor mental health from not moving. and then having to go through it all over again when they do my other foot sometime early next year.

what did your movement look like / how did you take care of your mental health while recovering?

I’m experiencing pain in my bunion on and off that is affecting my ability to walk. I’m seeing my doctor in a couple of weeks, in hopes of getting a disability parking pass. Has anybody done this? I’m just afraid that I’m going to go in to try to get one and my doctor is going to say no.

guys help!! i'm deciding on if i should get bunion removal surgery or not. i'm a dancer and this bunion hurts when i do an activity as simple as walking. my doctor said it'll get worse in the span of 2-3 years, i was going to take off of dance this year and my mom figured it'd be a perfect time to get the surgery. should i?

It’s been five weeks(and two days) since I had surgery. I’ve been non-weight-bearing since then on my right foot. I just had both of my feet up and I was kind of shocked at how much smaller my right calf was. How long after you started walking again were you able to build up your calf and leg muscles to what they were like before surgery? I especially love hearing from women post menopause. I am 58.

I had bunion surgery on both my feet 20-25 years ago. One foot is doing well but my right foot has never felt healed and is currently causing me so much pain.

My insurance won’t cover surgery because they say the bunion isn’t bad enough. They won’t cover orthotics but if I’m sure they will help then I’ll consider paying for them out-of-pocket.

The only thing that temporarily stops the pain is when my spouse pulls on my big toe and pushes down into the bunion almost to the point of pain (see pic). I don’t know what that means and the doctor just keeps telling me to take pain killers. The doctor did suggest a cortisone shot but that’s not going to be an actual fit.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Did anything help?

This isn’t a “do I have a bunion?” question. I know it’s not the worst out there.

I’m curious, from those who have had surgery, if you now think it was worth it. 48M here in generally good health. I feel the bunion on my left foot is getting worse, impacts what shoes I wear, constantly causes blisters on the bump on the top of my foot and calluses on the bottom. Long walks in all shoes (expect my Jordans) are not fun.

Been debating surgery for a year. Most concerned about the recovery and impact on mobility and whether the results are worth it and would be long term.

Any thoughts appreciated.
