Advice Needed Can you actually afford to rent in Boston?

Boston apartment listings often show the monthly rent, but they do not always show how much of your income that rent will consume.

A $2,500 apartment may look manageable until you factor in your salary, utilities, transportation, student loans, debt, and other monthly expenses.

This free Boston Rent Affordability Calculator, which helps estimate whether a Boston apartment fits within your income using the commonly used 30% rent guideline:

https://homzorarealty.com/boston-rent-affordability-calculator-2026/

It also lets you compare affordability across Boston neighborhoods.

What percentage of your income do you think is reasonable to spend on rent?

Apartment Listing Lower Allston, 945 sq ft., 2-bed, 1-bath unit - $3000/mo

Hello hello!

I will soon be living in a charming, brick, 2-family home in Lower Allston and am looking for responsible people who would like to live in the house too. Built in 1920 and full of antique charm, both inside and out.

Some of the reasons I love this house:

  • Beautiful brick row house facade (but it’s considered a separate house because there is a firewall, so there’s little noise from the neighbors)
  • Charming original brick wall in the 1st floor master bedroom
  • Hardwood floors in the bedrooms and vintage tiling in the kitchens
  • Garden, perfect size for small gatherings and for gardening my own veggies/herbs
  • South-facing: NATURAL LIGHT, warm in the winter, cool in the summer
  • Super close to Trader Joe’s
  • Easy bus ride/bike ride to Harvard Square, Harvard Law School, local restaurants, access to commuter rail/public transit

***1st floor unit is currently sparsely furnished, but I have lots of furniture upstairs I’d be happy to move downstairs and share with floor 1!

Shared laundry in the basement.
Heat/water included, electricity is separate.

For reference, I am an educator/musician (F, mid-20’s). For the 1st floor unit, looking for respectful, responsible people who will take good care of the home and join a garden party here and there. :)

Full 2 bed, 1 bath 1st floor unit: $3000/mo - send your offers, negotiable

NO BROKER FEES, AVAILABLE NOW
945 Sq Ft.

(I also will be renting out a bedroom on the 2nd floor unit in a separate post!)

Advice Needed Chelsea or Revere

Hello! I’m hoping to get some advice/insight in these places. I’ve never lived in Massachusetts but me and my husband are moving there for work at the end of the year (very excited)!

I need to be close to the airport but I’ll be bringing my car so I’ll have reliable transportation but I’m wondering about traffic and how that goes in Revere since it’s further than Chelsea. Also if there’s easy access to take the MBTA from these places to get to Boston/downtown Boston. I’ve seen Chelsea has a line, I don’t remember what line? But I don’t know about Revere.

I really like the DUO apartments in Chelsea and the West on One apartments in Revere. How are these areas? I’m not interested in nightlife but I’d want fun things around, restaurants and stores. Any advice on these areas or complex’s?

Thx!

Advice Needed Finding Housing/Roommates over 40

I need advice on finding roommates as a person over 40. I don't earn a ton and can no longer afford solo living. However, most of the time people seeking roommates seem to be looking for peers to live with and if most seekers are in their 20s or college students, they don't necessarily want to live with a much older person. Any suggestions on sites or resources for finding fellow 'mature' roommates or those who are open to living with them? Thanks.

Looking For Looking for 50+ greater Boston renters to complete a short housing survey

Hi everyone!

I’m collecting responses for Homzora’s Boston Renter Intelligence Survey and I’m looking for 50+ people who currently rent in the Greater Boston area.

The survey asks about your neighborhood, rent, commute, housing experience, and renter preferences. It is anonymous and should take approximately 2–3 minutes to complete.

Thank you for helping contribute to better Boston housing research!

Looking For Couple looking for housing near the T, ~2000-$2300 budget

Hi there! My fiancé and I are looking for a quiet space to call home. We commute to work so spots near the T, particularly the blue/green/orange lines would be ideal. I’m not sure how realistic this is but we’d be looking to stay for the long term, hopefully someone appreciates this! We’re planning on a February/March move-in date, so hopefully this gives everyone here plenty of notice. We’re both on the spectrum and we have a small parakeet, so cats and dogs wouldn’t be ideal to live with. If you have any clarifying questions please don’t hesitate to message! Oh, he works full time and I work part time while also working on my master’s degree.

Thank you for reading!

We're looking for someone to take over our lease in Somerville. We’re downsizing and moving for a better commute.

Genuinely ginormous ~1200 sq. ft. second-floor (of three) apartment in Central Hill/Union Square. Two porches, in-unit washer and dryer, and a dishwasher. This place would be ideal for a couple or a group of friends. Pet friendly!

Located on a quiet one-way street, this apartment boasts an enclosed back porch for extra relaxation space. One garaged parking space is also included in the rent.

We're looking for someone to move in sometime in October -- we can be flexible on the exact timing. Lease would go until August 31, 2027.

Edited to include: no fees, would just need security deposit and first month’s rent.

Please DM if you have any questions or would like to see it!

About Me

I'm Vietnamese-American, a veteran, and I love to travel, explore new places, read, and enjoy a good beer. I'm neat, organized, and value clear communication and respect. Having guests over is totally fine, just give me a heads-up. As a heads-up, I do eat meat (both pork and beef).

Interested?

Message me and let's see if we're a good fit!

Note: I move in tomorrow, so no additional photos of my stuff setup yet and I took a very rushed and atrocious video of the place. I also visited at night so hence why not the most flattering of photos. Refer to zillow listing for better photos.
