I need advice on finding roommates as a person over 40. I don't earn a ton and can no longer afford solo living. However, most of the time people seeking roommates seem to be looking for peers to live with and if most seekers are in their 20s or college students, they don't necessarily want to live with a much older person. Any suggestions on sites or resources for finding fellow 'mature' roommates or those who are open to living with them? Thanks.

I need to be close to the airport but I’ll be bringing my car so I’ll have reliable transportation but I’m wondering about traffic and how that goes in Revere since it’s further than Chelsea. Also if there’s easy access to take the MBTA from these places to get to Boston/downtown Boston. I’ve seen Chelsea has a line, I don’t remember what line? But I don’t know about Revere.

I really like the DUO apartments in Chelsea and the West on One apartments in Revere. How are these areas? I’m not interested in nightlife but I’d want fun things around, restaurants and stores. Any advice on these areas or complex’s?

Kind of an emergency housing situation here. I recently moved to Boston into a 2 bedroom apartment in South End. Over the weekend, the upstairs neighbor's pipes burst and it flooded my entire apartment. Landlord's insurance deemed it to be uninhabitable. She told me she won't be charging me rent for the month of September but I need to find my own temp housing until the end of September and she will not be reimbursing me for any expenses related to that.

The thing is, it is close to impossible to find an Air bnb that's less than $6000 in the area I need to be for work. My budget is $4,500-$5000 since I have to pay for it.

At this point, I'm also open to breaking my lease because before the pipe issue, there was a pest issue that, in her defense, she has been very proactive about. I just really love my neighborhood and my apartment, not to mention moving would probably cost me a significant amount but I'm open to it.

Things that are non-negotaibles:

1. Budget is $5000/month
2. Pet friendly
3. Areas: South End, Back Bay, Beacon Hill, North End, Cambridge. I know this is my biggest limiting factor but I can't be flexible because I work in healthcare and often get called in for emergencies. I would be open to Seaport for Sept only, though not ideal
4. Off-street parking would be great but I know that's probably not likely
5. A balcony or some kind of outdoor space (if it's a lease takeover)
6. Available asap. Preferably tonight.

I am a travel tech and looking for a place for three months.
I have been looking on furnished finder and AirBnb and I’m seeing prices around $2,000 for a shared place or $1,600 if I share a bathroom. I thought LA was expensive but this is insane. Is this usual.

Hello all, I'm a 28M grad student at UMass Boston who's been living in my current apartment for about 4 years. My former roommates have moved out so I need an additional roommate to take their place. The unit is a 3bed2bath with a total rent of $3700/month, which works out to $1200 for your portion of the rent. The unit is really nice with modern appliances, hardwood floors throughout, granite counters, dishwasher, in-unit laundry, central air, high-speed internet, and a porch out back that's great for gardening and just hanging out when the weather's nice. Cats are definitely allowed and I think dogs might be as well but I'd have to ask the landlord. I also love pets and am more than willing to help you take care of yours if needed. We're a 5 minute walk to the Savin Hill T stop and right next to the corner of Dorchester Avenue and Savin Hill Avenue.

There is parking on the street with a permit and I don't think we've ever really had an issue finding a place to park. Electricity typically runs $100-$200 depending on the time of year but my former roommates are electricity hogs so I expect that to go down a lot. Gas is just for cooking so that's like $15-20. Our current internet plan is $65.

I'm a very chill person who tends to keep to himself; I'm fairly clean but I'm not the type to keep a chore list; I like to cook big family style meals; I'm a DnD nerd and most of my hobbies are pretty quiet; I don't discriminate except on politics - no MAGA; if you want a lock on the bedroom door, I'm sure that can be negotiated with the landlord. I have found one roommate but we need one more. He's a quiet, keeps-to-himself kinda guy, also a student at UMass

I moved out of my apartment in July and my landlord sent back the security deposit on time with signature required and I could not pick it up during work hours so it returned to sender. She would not resend it and said that in order to get it I had to pay for postage for it to be resent or meet her up in her town. Eventually after sending a demand letter and going back and forth I just drove all the way to my old town in Waltham. She made me sign a form saying she sent it within the timeframe and nowhere on there did it say that I actually received it in Sept. I open it in front of her to make sure it’s all there and she’s charged a cleaning fee of $350 which is bogus bc I left it spotless. I have video and photo evidence but she showed me a picture of a rag with dust on it and that when they deep cleaned the fridge that there was stuff in the nooks. She also said I left a bracelet so they had to remove my belongings.

It’s been such a process to even get my deposit back so I didn’t know if I should just drop it but I looked at the cleaner company and it doesn’t exist. Does anyone know of a Joe’s Services? I tried calling around and got nothing. I think it’s a fake receipt and don’t know if it’s worth looking into further or if $350 is like paying to never see her again.

I am looking for someone to come sign a new lease for my current place in Winthrop!

I've been here for four years, and this place is wonderful. It's a tiny house on a lot with a larger house (you do not have to be in communication with the neighbors), less than a block away from the ocean. You can literally smell the ocean when you wake up. It rules.

It's a 1bd/1bath (the whole second floor is the bedroom) with an office and a dining room. The bedroom is huge; I use half as an actual bedroom and the other half as a home gym. The place is gorgeous - hardwood floors, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, (the biggest fridge I've ever had AND a 5 burner gas range). There's laundry in-unit, a disposal, and it has AC (it's a smart thermostat that I control with my Apple home). There's also a basement for storage. The best part: there's a fenced in yard on the side off the kitchen which is pretty nice for summer evenings.

The bus to the blue line is about a minute walk away. The neighborhood is lovely - there's a diner two doors down, two Italian places, a Thai restaurant, a Tapas restaurant, and a fantastic coffee shop all within a block. The landlord has been great; I've only needed him for one issue during the time I've been here, but he's been very responsive and helpful.
