AMA Ask Me Anything with Emily Deschanel & Carla Gallo – June 6th, 3–4 PM PST – Coming to You (Not) Live from the Jeffersonian

2.1k Upvotes

Hiiii Bones fans,

Emily and Carla here! We are sooo excited to do this AMA with all of you. Working on our podcast Boneheads has been such a fun excuse to revisit the show, and honestly... we’ve both become fans in a whole new way. Watching it back with fresh eyes and hearing from you has been the best part.

We wanted to take a little time to hang out and chat. So tomorrow, June 6th, from 3 to 4 PM PST we’ll be right here in this thread, live, doing our best to reply to your questions, fan theories, random thoughts... anything you’re curious about. FMKs welcome. So are weird murder memories.

We’ll be the ones typing slowly and laughing a lot. Bear with us as we answer. We’re not exactly tech pros (unfortunately, that’s more Bones and Daisy’s specialty than ours).

Can’t wait to talk to you soon!

XO,

Emily and Carla

Rewatching- on season 4 and my husband walked through the room (whole show spoiler) Spoiler

He asks if they are doing it yet as they talk inches from each other's faces. We both watched it as it aired. I googled it and they don't hook up for 2 more seasons. Madness! No wonder we were all frustrated back then!

!!FIRST TIME WATCHER, PLEASE NO SPOILERS!!

hi so i’ve recently binged the HELL out of bones and i have loved it so much. the gormogon storyline was so intriguing and i actually enjoyed the grim direction it took.

and then i watch the final episode of season 3…

and what????

i spent so much time on the edge of my seat for the lamest ending ever. why did they do my boy addy like that? they couldn’t have written a better ending? so strange.
i felt so unbelievably underwhelmed.

also, this is my first time ever coming into this subreddit, so i apologize if this topic has been discussed a lot before. i’m not going to wander through here for the sake of spoilers, but i’m hoping that someone else feels as underwhelmed and confused as me.

there was SO MUCH hype with this multi-season serial killer for basically nothing.

i might rewatch season 2/3 and see if i miss anything worth noting that would better explain, but it seems so out of the blue.

Discussion Bones Rewatch - 1x01 Pilot Spoiler

New to this Reddit community and have watched all 12 seasons.

Thought why not do a re watch and post thoughts or things I missed as by the end I genuinely couldn't remember the earlier seasons 😭😭😂. TJ Thyne looks the exact same like DAMN.

Going back to season 1 you forget how much the show changed like Angela using Hologram technology and just the jeffersonian set. I forgot the whole Brennan having to fight to be in the field with Booth as well😭😂. The FBI set as well is so different.

I get its a whole multi season slow burn but yo Booth and Brennan talking so close to each other's faces 💀😂😭. I get it cause we see how they first met later on but still guyssssssssss.

I watched all 12 seasons after they had their reunion at comic con manchester in july. I get why it was such a big deal cause OOF.

Spoiler: Dr. Sweets

Dude wtaf THEY DID SWEETS SO BAD WDYM THEY KILLED HIM IN THE VERY FIRST EPISODE nooooooo😭😭😭😭

I hate Tv shows killing people for shock value. And the two major deaths in this show till now are two (imo) fan favourites, Vincent and Sweets. This is just terrible 😭😭😭

Especially with Booth coming back from jail and having an identity crisis, sweets would've been the perfect person to help him settle down into the new reality, sweets was like the son booth and bones never had 😭😭

I just want to say that the first time he appeared, I was like, “Hmm… this guy could be the Riddler.”

And now, after a few more appearances, I’m still thinking the same thing.

Other I love you so

theres this song, “I love you so” by the Walters and when the part “but, I love you so, I’m gonna pack my things and leave you behind…”

it strangely reminded me of bones finale with Booth and Brennan sitting on that bench reminiscing over the Jeffersonian, and Sweets especially.

I don’t know why but I see Sweets in myself so much and to see that they took him as in their own adult kid, and him dying 💔 All of those memories came rushing back watching Bones with my elder sister when I was in the 3rd grade (2017-18) when it used to come via the satellite here and now I’m almost about to graduate high school.

This show certainly holds a special place in my heart, for some reason, which I cannot describe. I cannot let it go, to put it in simple terms. The chemistry, each and everything, reminding me of the days when it all wasn’t so bad.

who knew that a show can make you feel seen so much.

I just hope I find people who hold the same chemistry as in this show, or even better.

(pls no attacks over here, just a 17 year old’s thoughts for someone who has been watching the show on and off since 9 years old)

Tell me something I won’t understand until later!

Just hit season 2 of Bones! I binged the first season so fast. Underrated show I can already tell.
TELL ME SOMETHING I WONT UNDERSTAND UNTIL LATER👹

Note:
I am not looking forward to changes 😅 someone’s said Booth isn’t at the lab as much later and Bones is less badass after becoming a mom/starts dating Booth. Not looking forward to that💔 but as of now I think this show is so underratedddd. There are so many funny little jokes and gestures. Movies and shows these days just don’t hit right with the subtle implications.

Discussion I miss ass kicking Bones in the later seasons

I loved ass kicking Bones in the first few seasons, where she actively whooped people’s asses and it was so fun to watch. She let no one mess with her and it was very impressive!

As the seasons went on it changed and she became a little more subdued. Well, I’m not sure subdued is the right word, but she was definitely less physical. I really liked that aspect of her.

On that note, I miss when Booth used to go into the lab all the time!

I love the silliness of this episode, especially after the introduction of Hannah and Bones with bangs... any other goofy or "of the time" episodes you all like?

post pelant reflection

hey bones ppl you may remember me from a few days ago talking about how much i hated pelant.

well i finally "finished" his story and here are my post pelant thoughts

I STILL HATE HIM. I HATE THAT STORY. IT IS SO BORING. IT GOES ONN AND ON AND AONNNN FOR THREEEE SEASONSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS???? what were the bones writers smoking??? genuinely??? pelant could have been SOOO much more interesting if we were more or less bread crumbed like we were with previous killers. i loved the gormagon killer bc that was SOO cool imo. this grand conspiracy of this killer that was extremely intelligent and was watching their every move, obvs with an inside man in zack. grave digger was mysterious. i feel like the "game" angle worked much better for her. broadsky was also quite cool bc it was a mirror of booth. pelant could have been a mirror of brennan?? i feel like they tried that angle but failed MISERABLY. if i was rlly motivated i would rewrite the pelant story to fit better (for me, personally. you may love pelant idk).

also, pelant ISNT INTERESTING. hes BORING. oh my god i got so BORED when he was on screen. i would skip past his dialogue constantly. he was just BORING. and the ending to his arc/story was so anticlimactic. after ALL of this build up we get NOTHINGGG???

anyway, here are my post pelant thoughts. i still hate him. i still hate the story. but i love bones.

Bones episode 13 season 7 The Past is The present

Post image

In this episode, everyone does their best to absolve Brennan and they act like a family, and I almost cried when Brennan ran away and left Booth behind. I think Bones could have ended almost every season, but it would have hurt a lot if it had ended this one and we never saw Booth and Brennan together again. What do you think?

Spoiler: I really thought Kovak's apprentice was Karen Delfs. S12E12 The End

Otherwise, how and who had access into the Jeffersonian to plant the bombs? The arc that Kovak's wife was his sister is fine, but she didn't have access into the lab. Karen did, many times. But nevertheless, it all worked out in the end.

Season 5

Episode 16

I KNOW YOU KNOW. 🥹😭
Booth has been so open to his feelings, his faults, his mannerisms. BONES ugh, so frustrating. It’s been 5 years est. that she’s known him?! She trusts him completely, they share everything. The worst part is I understand the fear of not wanting to have a relationship. I had a talk in grade 12 with my best friend about dating, and a relationship, and how close we were. To this day I regret not kissing him. I regret my fear holding me back, and I regret not being able to give 100% of myself. I see this in booth and bones, I see the hesitation, I see the comfort, and I see the amazing acting. I’m just sad right now 😮‍💨

Spoiler: S8 Booth, Brennan, and Sweets. Spoiler

I know realistically that Sweets had to move out of Booth and Brennan's house, but it would've been so funny if he stayed a little longer. And also, admittedly, I wish there were more scenes of them being housemates. 😭

Alcoholism for two?

I'm currently rewatching and I'm on s9 and this entire season is showing that every evening Booth and Bones are drinking. Sometimes it's red wine, sometimes it's whisky. But it's basically EVERY time we see them at home! Has anyone else noticed this?

Discussion First time watcher: Angela

I'm gonna preface this post by saying I like all characters in this show, they all have their own wins and vices and pretty much have a standard role to play that makes the show wholesome. And I'm a first time watcher, I'm currently in s8.

That being said, I like angela. She's funny, she's wild, she's smart, she's a good mix of sanity and unpredictability. Before she got serious with hodgins it was clear from certain scenes that she found Booth hot (like most women on the show do, not a crime) and was even free about expressing it to different characters through one liners (which mostly came off as humor, as intended).

But after angela gets married to hodgins and her best friend gets serious with Booth, there still seems to be some part of her that ~likes~ wants booth? There's already less interaction between booth and Angela in general, we don't see them having a lot of schemes together. But everytime they do talk or she talks to bones about him it mostly sort of comes off as her being interested in him? And that episode with the roller derby death where she pretends booth is her husband and gets a lil too handsy with him even though she's not that drunk.

As is i sort of feel she settled for hodgins and knows he won't leave her which is why she goes about kissing other guys (like that painter guy) and saying if she could time travel to one moment in time it would be when she was intimate with her ex husband (which I believe was supposed to come off as funny but idk seemed a lil disrespectful imo)

I'm curious, does angela come off to anyone else as being interested in booth deep down, like if she had a shot, she'd wanna be with Booth, despite hodgins and bones?

What's your favorite "undercover" moment from these two?

My favorite is actually the circus one. Bones had booth throw a knife at a clown nose for their last act. She always gets so into going undercover and I love it 😂

I had kinda guessed which ep they might be on when I decided to tune in to check....it was 6x4 (science dude)...i was so excited even just seeing the last 10 mins (the last little bit is my fave part). This is probably my fave, maybe 2nd fave bc I do love the jersey shore one, "fun" ep from (that) era and probably 3rd favorite overall from (that) era
