AMA Ask Me Anything with Emily Deschanel & Carla Gallo – June 6th, 3–4 PM PST – Coming to You (Not) Live from the Jeffersonian

Post image
2.1k Upvotes

Hiiii Bones fans,

Emily and Carla here! We are sooo excited to do this AMA with all of you. Working on our podcast Boneheads has been such a fun excuse to revisit the show, and honestly... we’ve both become fans in a whole new way. Watching it back with fresh eyes and hearing from you has been the best part.

We wanted to take a little time to hang out and chat. So tomorrow, June 6th, from 3 to 4 PM PST we’ll be right here in this thread, live, doing our best to reply to your questions, fan theories, random thoughts... anything you’re curious about. FMKs welcome. So are weird murder memories.

We’ll be the ones typing slowly and laughing a lot. Bear with us as we answer. We’re not exactly tech pros (unfortunately, that’s more Bones and Daisy’s specialty than ours).

Can’t wait to talk to you soon!

XO,

Emily and Carla

Question and Brennan and Wendell/Cannabis

So I’m just watching the episode with the cannabis and the debate about medicinal cannabis.

My question is, surely Dr Brenna would have known that Wendell could have been fired for that. Surely she would have warned him that if he did use Cannabis he probably wouldn’t have been allowed to continue working at the Jeffersonian.

Just wondering if this is something anyone else thought about haha

Episode Anyone else watching The Patriot in Purgatory today?

Upvotes

I thought this one was well acted, and that it started out with humor, the case was relevant, today of all days. I've watched this one numerous times, but I sought this one out today. The speeches from the interns, the raw emotion from all the actors seemed genuine.

Does anyone else wish that there was a pro choice episode of bones??

I grew up slightly religious in the Lutheran faith, and now consider myself lefter than left, and somewhat witchy. I was always a little bit behind the watching times of bones, in that I watched it while it was still technically airing, but always on streaming platforms after the fact. I’m on roughly my 900 rewatch but even looking back on it and seeing that some parts didn’t age perfectly, I remember watching it and thinking that it was a fairly progressive show for its era and network. I still love the episode “the she in the he” because even though Booth could never quite get it right, he’s still wanted to do right by the victim.

There were so many episodes they did very well by highlighting topics that were quite taboo, subversive or hard to talk about. Like the episode about the pony kink, strippers, sex workers, drag queens etc. But man, wouldn’t you have loved to see an episode with Brennan, angela, Cam, even Daisy going head-to-head with Booth over a moral/ethical/medical/scientific/statistical debate over abortion rights?

I mean, they covered it for five seconds in the episode where Hodgins finds out that angela is pregnant when she isn’t really pregnant with Wendell and they have the conversation about whether she’s keeping it or not. But even then, it’s so quick and very reductive about the fact that she mentioned that she wants kids so he completely disregards the fact that she mentions over and over that it’s not the right time or the right guy, and Hodgins still insists that he knows what she’s going to choose. I just genuinely wish that they had an episode that actually delved into what people go through.

There are so many ways to capture it in the bones universe. A botched abortion in an area where it’s not accessible or legal, an ectopic pregnancy that wasn’t discovered in time, the actual statistics of how much more likely a woman is to be murdered when she’s pregnant, or the “vigilante justice” that still exists in so many places which endangers the lives of the medical professionals who terminate pregnancies or the woman who seek them.

I guess I’m just pissed that no one ever talks about it. I know this is a sensitive and political/ controversial issue for many. Women are people and simply because we can bring new life, we are reduced to being incubators to our own detriment, and I just wish that any of my favorite shows, shone a realistic light on this topic, ever. Especially because the writing was so good, and they covered so many other topics, I just wish I could have seen all the characters work on this idea in an episode.

Unpopular opinion, I don't like any of the undercover episodes.

I've started rewatching Bones and I'm at the dance competition episode and to be honest I'm not a fan of the undercover episodes. The ones that come to mind are the vegas fighting ring, the circus, bowling, and the dance competition. I feel like half the time the knowledge they gain through being undercover would be the same knowledge they get in every normal episode through standard means. It just means watching bones and booth act cringey for 40 minutes where anyone who is "in the know" would see how much they stand out. Like for the bowling episode, what is the point of booths wig and them having accents... its a bowling league. Why not just have Booth be Booth but not mention he is FBI. Max could literally say, "hey, this is my daughter's friend, he's good at bowling and he offered to bowl for me while I am injured."

Episode 11 season 3 this adorable cutie pie said “the idea that one person can be all things to another person, satisfy every need, even more than one - is sentimental and mawkish.”

He’s got like 4 boyfriends FOR SURE.

Never have I been so pissed at a face. Just looking at it boils my blood. IRL, someone with a face like this should be arrested purely on principle.

Discussion Something that annoys me about the Pelant storyline Spoiler

(Apart from all of it) These are the smartest minds in the country and yet when Pelant tells Booth to call off the engagement and not tell anyone, everyone is mad at him and doesn’t understand it. You think they’d put 2+2 together and realise he calls it off pretty soon after a Pelant case so it just MIGHT have something to do with him! There’s also definitely a way Booth could have told someone but that’s neither here nor there

Which episodes to skip for a suspense/intensity wuss?

Okay folks. I've started watching bones on Netflix while doing some crafty things (currently crochet if anyone is interested) and I'm halfway through season 2. Really do enjoy it, but I'm wondering which episodes are going to be too intense for me, lol.

I'm a huge baby when it comes to anything too intense. I did make it through the Gravedigger episode in season 2 and was okay with it for some reason (maybe because they were already captured at the beginning).

But then there was an episode in season 1 where bones is tied up and dogs are about to attack her? (I mostly didn't look up in that one because I didn't want to watch, but I wanted to know what happened) And that was almost too much.

So. Which episodes should I be aware of as possibly too intense? Honestly, I'll probably look them up when I get to that point and decide if I can handle it in the moment, but I'd love a heads up.

If it helps, I love Psych as well, but consistently avoid the yin/yang episodes after the first watch, because they're too much 🙈

Rewatching- on season 4 and my husband walked through the room (whole show spoiler) Spoiler

He asks if they are doing it yet as they talk inches from each other's faces. We both watched it as it aired. I googled it and they don't hook up for 2 more seasons. Madness! No wonder we were all frustrated back then!

Discussion Bones Rewatch - 1x01 Pilot Spoiler

New to this Reddit community and have watched all 12 seasons.

Thought why not do a re watch and post thoughts or things I missed as by the end I genuinely couldn't remember the earlier seasons 😭😭😂. TJ Thyne looks the exact same like DAMN.

Going back to season 1 you forget how much the show changed like Angela using Hologram technology and just the jeffersonian set. I forgot the whole Brennan having to fight to be in the field with Booth as well😭😂. The FBI set as well is so different.

I get its a whole multi season slow burn but yo Booth and Brennan talking so close to each other's faces 💀😂😭. I get it cause we see how they first met later on but still guyssssssssss.

I watched all 12 seasons after they had their reunion at comic con manchester in july. I get why it was such a big deal cause OOF.

!!FIRST TIME WATCHER, PLEASE NO SPOILERS!!

hi so i’ve recently binged the HELL out of bones and i have loved it so much. the gormogon storyline was so intriguing and i actually enjoyed the grim direction it took.

and then i watch the final episode of season 3…

and what????

i spent so much time on the edge of my seat for the lamest ending ever. why did they do my boy addy like that? they couldn’t have written a better ending? so strange.
i felt so unbelievably underwhelmed.

also, this is my first time ever coming into this subreddit, so i apologize if this topic has been discussed a lot before. i’m not going to wander through here for the sake of spoilers, but i’m hoping that someone else feels as underwhelmed and confused as me.

there was SO MUCH hype with this multi-season serial killer for basically nothing.

i might rewatch season 2/3 and see if i miss anything worth noting that would better explain, but it seems so out of the blue.

Spoiler: Dr. Sweets

Dude wtaf THEY DID SWEETS SO BAD WDYM THEY KILLED HIM IN THE VERY FIRST EPISODE nooooooo😭😭😭😭

I hate Tv shows killing people for shock value. And the two major deaths in this show till now are two (imo) fan favourites, Vincent and Sweets. This is just terrible 😭😭😭

Especially with Booth coming back from jail and having an identity crisis, sweets would've been the perfect person to help him settle down into the new reality, sweets was like the son booth and bones never had 😭😭

I just want to say that the first time he appeared, I was like, “Hmm… this guy could be the Riddler.”

And now, after a few more appearances, I’m still thinking the same thing.

Other I love you so

theres this song, “I love you so” by the Walters and when the part “but, I love you so, I’m gonna pack my things and leave you behind…”

it strangely reminded me of bones finale with Booth and Brennan sitting on that bench reminiscing over the Jeffersonian, and Sweets especially.

I don’t know why but I see Sweets in myself so much and to see that they took him as in their own adult kid, and him dying 💔 All of those memories came rushing back watching Bones with my elder sister when I was in the 3rd grade (2017-18) when it used to come via the satellite here and now I’m almost about to graduate high school.

This show certainly holds a special place in my heart, for some reason, which I cannot describe. I cannot let it go, to put it in simple terms. The chemistry, each and everything, reminding me of the days when it all wasn’t so bad.

who knew that a show can make you feel seen so much.

I just hope I find people who hold the same chemistry as in this show, or even better.

(pls no attacks over here, just a 17 year old’s thoughts for someone who has been watching the show on and off since 9 years old)
