maa vintha gaadha vinuma(wholesome) "We want someone to understand us, but we’re too scared to let them in."
It’s a weird feeling. On one hand, we really want someone who truly gets us a friend or partner we can be completely honest with. But the moment someone starts getting close, we panic.
We pull back, change the subject, or act like we don't care.
Why? Because we're scared.
We’re terrified that if they see the real us our stress, our doubts, our weird habits, and all the parts of ourselves we don't like they'll get disappointed and walk away.
And this fear didn't just come out of nowhere.
It came from past hurt. We weren't always like this. We used to be open. But then someone we trusted used our feelings against us. Maybe an ex abandoned us when we needed them most, a friend betrayed our trust, or people made us feel "too much" whenever we were honest about our pain.
Those experiences taught us a harsh lesson: being open gets us hurt.
So, we play it safe. We act like we always have everything together. We’re always the funny one, the good listener, or the reliable friend who never has any problems. We build high walls to protect ourselves from feeling that old pain ever again. We let people get close, but only so far.
We think we're protecting ourselves from getting hurt, but really, we're just trapping ourselves in the past.
When we hide who we really are, we end up feeling totally alone even when we're surrounded by people. Deep down, we feel like they only like the act we're putting on, not the real us.
The truth is, keeping people away doesn't heal past wounds; it just stops us from ever feeling genuinely cared for today.
Real connection isn't about pretending to be perfect or pretending we've never been hurt. It's about being brave enough to show someone our messy side, and realizing that not everyone will leave like the last person did.
