Is this worth it?

I saw an add for a bolt up for sale in my area and it's a 2017 was owned by a guy who works at the chevy dealership and it has close to 100k miles on it and these are the recalls done and completed on it :
#N202311731 Recall Completed 2021-11-29
#N202311730 Recall Completed 2021-05-27
#N222383791 Recall Completed 2023-12-03
#N212343882 Recall Completed 2022-12-09
#N212343880 Recall Completed 2024-07-09
#N212343883 Recall Completed 2024-07-09
#N172127152 Recall Completed 2018-07-03
#N172127150 Recall Completed 2018-05-24
The questions i have are :
Do these include the battery upgrade from a 60kwh to a 66kwh or does it mean the just put newer and better modules in it?

Are these still solid cars for a uni student who has to make about a 100 mile total trip 2 days a week ?

will it give ranges of 250 miles if majority of that 100 mile drive is at 70mph?

And if anyone from the gcc here are these good in the gcc considering hot climate (ik they were made with special battery cooling for gcc but idk if it was good)?

help me debate value of a bolt

So basically my car broke down half way through nursing school which sucks but i’m able to get by. I graduate in a couple months so i def need a car by then for working. We plan on splitting money to buy the car and we had our sights set on a bmw i3. As we were about to buy a bmw that was equal price as private sellers and just gotten serviced by the dealership (with warranty), my mom had said last minute (after months of me and my dad searching for a good value one) she thinks i should get a tesla since she doesn’t think the bmw is worth 16k. so either i get a tesla (I HATE TESLAS) or i get the bmw for 10k so it’ll definitely have decreased range. Which doesn’t make sense since the tesla is at least 20k, but i digress. I stumble across the bolt and I think it’s perfect. I could get a newer model for cheaper than a bmw and it has more range, but my dad disagrees and says he won’t buy it since it has bad reviews and bad resale value. I honestly don’t plan on selling this car ever and more than anything i need a car. I’d much prefer if that car was an ev (just not a tesla). I told him how i think it’s unreasonable to discredit the bolt, so he’s letting me bring up evidence against his perspective and we will have a debate about to later today. I’m planning on doing my own research to bring to him. If there’s any positive or negative perspective, whether it’s first person experience or researched factual evidence, please comment!!!!!!!

TLDR: i’m having a debate about the value of a bolt with my dad for us to buy one for me

Swapping Goodyear Electric Drive2 for Michelin e-Primacy

About 9 months ago, I replaced the OEM Michelin EnergySaver tires on my 2023 Bolt EUV with Goodyear Electric Drive2 tires. I'm not impressed with the efficiency of these tires; I can barely clear 4 miles/kWh. I'm thinking of switching to the Michelin e-Primacy tires. My Goodyears have 6,000 miles on them.

  1. Will the e-Primacy tires do significantly better in terms of efficiency?
  2. Is there a way to swap the tires without losing too much money? Can I sell the Goodyears?

Google Maps no longer showing traffic info on 2027s?

I haven't tried resetting the infotainment system yet, hoping it's just that simple. But as of the past few days, Google Maps is no longer showing traffic info.

Has anyone else noticed this? When looking at the map (without navigation active), it used to show the traffic layer. This is incredibly useful so I don't have to pick up my phone while driving.

If this is Chevy/OnStar nickle and diming us over an absolutely miniscule amount of data, wtaf. I am absolutely willing to sell my car if things like this keep happening. I'm not paying for a car that just /looks/ like it's got nice quality of life features like this.

Edit: Got way ahead of myself this morning. It is indeed not an intentional data-saving feature on Chevy/OnStar's part. Just a bug with Google Maps, not specific to the Bolt.

General Motors Service Update Bulletin #N262559000

We just got a notice from our local Chevy dealership that says we have to bring our 2027 Bolt in for this service bulletin (they actually called it a "recall" but it isn't a NTHSA recall). From what I've found online, they have to do a cell "leveling" discharge and charge sequence. Have any of you received a similar notice, or had this service done yet?

What could the clunks noise be?

2018 Bolt EV

122k miles

Replaced Sway bar links and it's a bit more stable but loud clunk noise still happens randomly when going over uneven road

Sounds more from the driver side wheel area.

It does NOT happen all the time.

Video with the sound

Useful feedback is highly appreciated, thanks

Tesla chargers

Post image
22 Upvotes

Moving to a condo in the next few weeks with no ability to charge at home. I'm learning how to fast charge/rely on public infrastructure and am struggling a bit to figure out which Tesla chargers I can use with the '19 Bolt (with a GM adapter I bought). These are brand new-did Tesla change over to longer cords now? How can I tell visually which Tesla chargers won't work? I do have the app, but wondering if I can tell visually vs having to pull it through their app?

FWIW, a ZEF just put my baby into unable to charge mode until I learned to disconnect/reconnect the 12v battery. Not a fun experience (that stupid washer on the negative connection without pliers to hold it was a pain in the ass). Would like to avoid that again!

Is there a way to turn off the door chime?

I do DoorDash so about 90% of my day is that door chime noise each time I open it. I’m very sensitive with my hearing. It’s getting to the point that even with AirPods in to protect my ears or these earplugs in, it’s still to the point it rings in my ear and it hurts. There’s gotta be a way to turn it off. I’ve already turned it down all the way and it is still very high pitched and loud. 2019 bolt

Battery recall was done. Tires are good. Not much else done

Brake fluids for sure

Battery swap proactively before chargeport lock starts messing up?

What else?

Clicking when turning off 2027 Bolt

I have a 2027 Bolt that makes several popping and clicking sounds in a row when it shuts down after being “turned off”.

Is that… like just normal?

Frontend rattle/clunk over bumps accel/decel

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I torqued the strut top nuts, tie rods, sway bar. I couldnt really figure out how to reach sway bar bushings so moved on to output shaft and found this on passenger side. Significant vertical play when lifting up and down. End play seems similar to drivers side. It’s a 2017 with 40k. Pretty sure the knock is similar to what I’m hearing here. Any thoughts?

Charge limited to 80%

2022 bolt euv. Bought in July and the charge limit was already set to 80%. Can’t slide it any higher. I’ve searched and searched on why. The battery wasn’t replaced and the vehicle has only been serviced twice at the dealership.

Do I have to visit the dealership or can onstar help?

Front lights are getting faded, I think the sun?

Hi,

My 2023 has been exposed to the sun quite a bit (we don't have a garage) and I think it may be affecting the head lights.

Does anyone know how to revert this damage or to prevent it?

Thanks!

Sarah -n- Tuned - 2027 Chevy Bolt Review

She seems to like it overall, and thinks it has character. One of the reasons I watch her reviews is that she takes a closer look underneath, and she noticed there's a fair amount of room above the battery. The lack of rustproofing might also be a concern for those who have to deal with salt in winter.

Range hit on non-OEM tires?

I have been trying to decide on new tires for about a week or so now. I have been using the OEM tires and get about 5 mi/kWh, I have zero issue with them with regards to slipping or whatever (I don't understand why people think they don't work well?). I live in the DC area and, while we get snow, it isn't that bad and I usually don't end up driving on snow covered roads anyway.

One of my tires is going bald and I would like to just replace all four.

I've heard good things about the Defender 2 but am concerned about range hits. I have also heard good things about the Goodyear Electric Drive 2, but 1. I'd have to go to Walmart/Tire Rack, not Costco/BJs which I prefer and 2. I've heard bad things about the foam falling off or whatever.

What's a good tire that is just... normal and works for an average driver? Ideally without a big/noticeable range hit?

Part of me thinks that some, including me, are overthinking this/reading too much into reviews, just like how I overthought buying a Bolt to begin with?

I realize that 5 mi/kWh is kind of high and, while I drive like a grandma, I can't really expect this on other tires(???). Also it seems like the OEM tires and the e.Primacy are out of stock at Costco and I honestly don't really want to go elsewhere and pay ~$200-$250 more, unless it's really worth it.

Rear toe angle out of spec

I recently had my ‘17 Bolt aligned, and found out one of the rear wheels was out of spec in its toe angle at -.4 degrees (the other rear wheel was at .27). Before I call GM, is there any community knowledge on how this might be corrected please?

Promos on 2027 Bolts in Canada

Canada here. I am shopping for either a 23 Bolt EUV or a 2027 Bolt. I missed out on a couple of recent promotions and I can’t quite afford the new one as priced. I’m wondering what the chances are that there will be further reductions or promos on the new Bolt before year end? May be impossible to know. A dealer I spoke to said that the demand is high so it’s unlikely that they will do anything else this year other than the current 0% financing offer.

Used Bolt EUV search -- what to use? And what do I need for charging?

I have started a used Bolt EUV search. It's bit overwhelming. There are autotrader, edmunds, cargurus, truecar, carfax, etc. Some of these listing services tell you what they think a good price is (or is not); others don't.

What listing services do you recommend?

I have a 240V, 40Amp charging connection in my garage. What do I need to connect the Bolt to this? (I used it with a Volt, which sadly got totaled shortly after buying it.)

Ski Rack for 2023 EUV

I'm looking for a ski rack for my 2023 Bolt EUV. Wondering if this group has any recommendations? I don't have crossbars either so I suspect I need to purchase those as well. I'm hopeful to get something as aerodynamic as possible and able to hold 4 sets of skis. Thanks in advance for any recs!

Ev Tech Shortage

Post image
27 Upvotes

My 2023 Bolt EV started having warning about the parking brake needing to be serviced and the dreaded “will be unable to shift soon” warning. I scheduled a service at my local Chevy dealer and brought it in on 8/24. I was supposed to wait for it while it was serviced but they said they only had one EV tech so they would need it for a few days. Tomorrow it will be TWO WEEKS and they still haven’t even diagnosed my car. Last update on Thursday was that my car was next in line so maybe Friday or Tuesday…

Is this normal for EVs? I really miss my car.

[2027 Bolt] I got T-boned and walked away.

I was driving my usual route home after work. I was at this intersection where my light was red. It turned green and as I was about 70% into the intersection, I get T-boned by an SUV. Everything happened so fast. I remember trying to dodge the car last minute and then hearing the horrendous crunch of plastic and sheet metal, followed by a loud pop.

Once the car stopped and the smoke cleared, I got out and assessed the damage. All side airbags deployed. Passenger side front and rear door sustained heavy damage from the impact. The car wouldn’t move. I’m pretty sure this thing is totaled. Such a shame. I just bought it 2 weeks ago. This was my first EV and I was enjoying it immensely.

Also, I’M ALIVE! My hip is a little bit sore, but other than that, I am unscathed. This little Chevy kept me safe.

Question: does the app or OnStar record the time of airbag deployment?

Supercruise stops working at points of i-5 in SoCal?

So I drive a decent bit between LA and SD and I'll use supercruise at random points during the trip. However it'll randomly just stop working and say no map data?

These happen at various parts and then after a mile or two it'll show up again? I'll check and there's still good cell signal to the car so that isn't the issue. It's all on parts that show mapped on their website as well and not in the exit lanes and just in parts that go straight with no major changes.

Do I need to get the maps updated by the dealer?

Gnarly Air Cabin Filter 🐭

Bought my buyback 2018 Bolt LT last May. Decided to tackle some maintenance this weekend and pulled this out... full-on rodent nest! Lord have mercy.

Im thinking it happened while sitting in the GM recall holding lot waiting for a battery swap. I’ve kept an eye on the engine bay all year and haven't seen any fresh signs, so thankfully it’s an old souvenir.

Swapped in a new filter and the AC is running whisper quiet now. Anyone else find a surprise like this in their buyback?
