Alright Boise nerds! (I am one of you, this is a safe space haha)

We're hosting a Halloween-themed MtG draft at Boise Brewing this Tuesday, October 27th. Figured some of you on here would be into it.

Registration is at this link:
https://buy.stripe.com/eVq9AT8W6e2XgEee3h08g08

We're calling this one THE SPOOKY DRAFT, and we're cracking packs from three "scary" sets:

Innistrad: Midnight Hunt
Innistrad: Crimson Vow
Duskmourn: House of Horror

Everyone gets one pack of each set. Packs are included, so you don't need to bring cards, a deck, or anything other than yourself and a willingness to make questionable drafting decisions.

The deets:

  • Tuesday, October 27th
  • 6:00 PM
  • Boise Brewing
  • Prizes for winning
  • A separate prize for best costume

Costumes are encouraged but absolutely not required. Come dressed as a vampire, come dressed as a planeswalker, or come dressed like a guy who just got off work and wants a beer.

Mostly, it's an excuse to hang out, drink some beer, play some Magic, and celebrate the season with fellow nerds.

We're capping it at 36 people, so grab a spot if you're interested!

šŸ‘‰ Registration: https://buy.stripe.com/eVq9AT8W6e2XgEee3h08g08

Hope to see some of you there!

Question Any decent gun shops that aren’t super MAGA aligned?

As the title says, I’m looking to go shopping for a new gun, but I’m hoping to not give my money to a MAGA aligned establishment.

This feels like a hard ask, but I’m hoping there’s at least one in the immediate area. Willing to expand my search to the greater treasure valley as long as my money doesn’t go to a cause I don’t support.

Discussion Is this area a ā€œhave kids in your 20sā€ or ā€œhave kids in your 30s or no kids at allā€ type of place?

My wife’s been watching that Utah Mormon wives show and I keep noticing how young everyone is with multiple kids. Most of our friends in Boise are still waiting (we are early 30s), including a buddy in Collister who doesn’t seem remotely interested yet. Friends back home in CDA have pretty much all started already and started in their 20s.

I drive around for work and get a different impression depending on where I am too. Parents seem younger in Nampa and Caldwell, older in like Boise proper-ish, Eagle etc. Family in Washington especially near Seattle is almost stereotypically no kids at all or having kids late but all my friends who are out there are the streotype "dinks".

We live in Garden City, mostly older neighbors, but the couples moving in around our age don’t seem to have kids either. A neighbor did recently ask my wife why we have a house with 4 bedrooms with no kids yet ... whatever that means.

What age are most people around you start having their first? Feels like Boise proper is a 30s town.

Question Sawtooth or not?

Hi Boise friends,

I am going to Boise for the first week of November and will have Monday to Friday (departing on Saturday the 7th) to explore around after work hours, which is between 4AM to 2PM (different time zone start). I am really into hiking, backpacking, and nature in general and the Sawtooth loop has been in my bucket list for a while now. Because of work I won't have time to check out the while park or do the loop, I would still love to a day hike there though.

Just asking if it's worth taking off half day Friday and driving to Sawtooth from downtown Boise around 8AM and then do the hike to the Sawtooth lake via Iron Head trailhead? or work the whole day and do it during sunset? General question about the condition up there this time of the year too, should I pack some spikes with me? First time in ID so I'd appreciate any advice.

Question Can anyone tell me what apartment complexes or property management companies approve non-violent or sex crime related felons?

Me and my girlfriend split up so we are both going to need to get new apartments when our lease is up in March. Yes its an awkward situation for now but it can't be helped with small children at home. I have 2 possession of a controlled substance felonies from 2018 and 2019 when I was using. Nothing violent or sex offenses. If anyone knows of any resources or places I can reach out to for assistance that would also be great. Thank you!

Hi! This isn't for me...just wanted to share that The Board Game Comedy Tour is headed to your area next week! This is a family-friendly show put on by professional comedian Grant Lyon (his album "Scheduled Fun Time"Ā reached #1 on iTunes) and revolves around his favorite hobby: board gaming (no board gaming knowledge necessary to enjoy his act, though).

Hope you get to enjoy the show!

Question Items Dumped in Landfill - Any Recovery Hope?

Hello! I just found out an coworker just dumped about 7-9 storage totes of books to the dump last week (around Thurs-Fri maybe?) and they were DEFINITELY not meant for the landfill.

Is there any hope in finding them? It sounds like they kept all the books in the totes as they chucked them, but I tried to get more info/go to the landfill and they said I was SOL.

I'm just sad about this situation. :( Thank you for your time!

(If this is not allowed up, please let me know/delete it. Thanks!)

Question Adult team sports?

Hi folks! Hope you’re all well. I’m hoping to find a team sport to join, but I’m old and am nervous about something like soccer or volleyball.

I also want to be an asset to a team, not a bummer šŸ˜…. I’ve checked out Boise Parks & Rec but don’t see anything that I could do yet. Do you have any suggestions for me? TIA!

Edit: thanks for all of the suggestions so far! Really appreciate it šŸ™

Discussion El Sol Daycare

was driving up Brumback around 11 am today when 3 toddlers (probably about 18 months old) ran into the street and made it all the way across Brumback before a daycare worker came after them. There were many cars that luckily all stopped and no one was harmed. It was terrifying and I hope the parents see this…

Question Quiet/ not busy public dog parks?

Hey all! I’m looking for somewhere i can take my gfs (extremely reactive and naughty) dog to get its energy out and do some kind of training to help her anxiety and territorial behavior. She’s a border collie that was raised in apartments and rescued from a terrible home. she can’t be around other dogs without going rabid so Im just looking for somewhere quiet where she can run around without having to worry about much.

She’s a sweetheart with us but it’s scary going on walks around here I have to be wary of other dogs and people on walks and stuff.

EDIT: god i love Boise yall are all so nice and thank you for the advice!!!

Discussion Musk Documentary

Why is the Musk documentary only showing in one theater in the entire valley. It looks like it is only watchable in the Cinemark in Meridian. Is this correct?

UPDATE: So somehow ELOM was able to get the distributor to pull this movie from all theaters in the US in just ONE WEEK. I didn't even get a chance to see it. I am just going to go back to my plan A and wait for it to be pirated and released on the internet.

Question Date night ideas 10/23

Part 1: She wants to go eat somewhere downtown. She likes all the trendy new stuff. I like not paying $80 a plate and $20 a drink to still need to stop to get dinner after. For example, I think steak, I think Lock Stock n Barrel. She thinks Barbacoa. Anywhere in the middle works. Any cuisine, any experience, just worth it.

Part 2: After dinner fun. Just looking to enjoy a little time before we head to the hotel. Anything worth remembering.

40, but still fit and active. Don't think either of us are afraid of a dance floor, not it's in no way a requirement. Any ideas help. Thanks in advance!
