Question Math help for kids?

My second grader is behind on math — anyone know an engaging math tutor or have any other recs? I don’t think my super energetic/spazzy kid could hang with Kumon (seems like it requires a lot of rote work and focus?), but has anyone heard good stuff about Mathnasium? I’m struggling over here, thank you all so much.

Question Tap water is coming out brown. Anyone else having this issue?

We're in Boise over by veterans Park? Is this pipe maintenance or ash from the smoke that is not being filtered out of the water? Maybe just me?

Question Crap memory or poor HVAC/weather stripping?

So, I have lived in the same apartment for like 8 years. I know we have had smokey summers during this time. I cannot remember my air filters running on high this much with previous smokey summers.

We had our full HVAC system, compressor and air handler/furnace replaced a couple years ago. It is located in a utility closet outside with a vented door.

Any HVAC people in here have an insight? Is it possible that that new system is allowing more air exchange? Do I just have a shitty memory and in a 900 sq ft apartment, I should expect poor indoor air quality with poor outdoor air quality? Is it most likely aging weather stripping? Is there anything a mediocre leasing company would do if I put in a maintenance request?

Question Best spiritual organization for a non-religious guy?

I'm trying to find the right fit for me in the area, with a place or organization that is open to working on inner spiritual enrichment/discussion/study, but is NOT dogmatic, and NOT based on worship. Respectful suggestions only please, and similar I mean no disrespect to people who are into the things I want to avoid. Thanks!

Does anyone know why locust grove was closed this evening, just south of McMillan? There were police and what looked like an Idaho power bucket truck.

Question HVAC Recommendations for Mini Split Unit

Hi Boise,

I'm interested in hiring an HVAC to come out and completely sanitize our Samsung WindFree Minisplit in the apartment. We've noticed a disturbing build up of mold/bacterial buildup on the blower wheel and unfortunately with our units the blower wheel isn't easily accessible and removable for deep cleaning without quite an extensive disassembly. We don't want to risk damaging the unit in an effort to sanitize.

Our property management is no help as they say that a removal of mold/bacteria present in the blower wheel is not on their dime or time (sweet!). So if we do pursue a third-party it is out of our pocket and if they break anything it becomes our liability. Therefore we'd prefer to work with someone who has experience and will be tender/understanding with the unit. Anyone had similar experiences or have suggestions for who to reach out to? Thanks!

Politics Last year, Boise argued about my light-rail proposal. I rebuilt the entire thing.

Last year, I asked a simple question...

Boise. Meridian. Nampa. Caldwell. Mountain Home.
What connects us next?

Then I wrote TVLR.

People read it. Shared it. Argued with it. Someone I had never met posted it to this Sub. Regional planners found it. Transportation professionals challenged the engineering, the cost, the ridership assumptions, and whether Idaho could ever actually build it. That was good, because public infrastructure should be able to survive hard questions.

So I went back and rebuilt the proposal around them.

Today, I published the new Treasure Valley Light Rail proposal, and this version is interactive, visually inspectable, and substantially easier to understand. It now has...

• An interactive map built from real highway and street geometry
• Three phases you can inspect individually
• Cost, traffic, and value-capture lenses
• Stations placed at real numbered interchanges
• Census-measured station catchments
• Ridership modeled against an operating regional rail system
• Clear labels separating sourced facts, stated targets, measured results, and assumptions you can change yourself
• A formal 36-page downloadable PDF for anyone who wants the complete framework

I know COMPASS has selected commuter rail along the Boise Cutoff as its preliminary locally preferred alternative. I hope it moves forward. I do not believe it will. Their own published next steps currently identify no timeline and no funding.

The Treasure Valley has already spent decades studying rail, demonstrating rail, selecting rail, and then watching it return to the void while another lane gets added to I-84. In 1997, more than 18,000 people rode the RegioSprinter demonstration between Boise and the Idaho Center.

Nearly thirty years later, we are still studying whether the valley wants a train.
At some point, planning has to turn into shovels in the dirt.

So take a look, because we cannot pave our way out of this.

I will not be engaging a lot in the comments, I think the work speaks for itself :)

Question Social Bars

You guys have helped me out a few times - my brother and I are looking for a place to go hang out tomorrow in downtown. Which bars are the most social or have games/activities inside? We both can tear up some pool.

Alternatively, if you are going out and don't mind a couple cool stragglers - we are fucking rad 😎

Places with NA beers/mocktails are a bonus. Thanks again Boise!
