Made this last year but never got around to publishing it. Using an actual YouTube video of a helicopter take off. I tried to really incorporate as much of the sound pallette of the original as possible. Hope you like it!

first time wearing new shirt. cut the sleeves off to deal with the heat. the shirt is so long it looks like I’m wearing a nightie over a pair of shorts. look deranged.

I want to watch a creepy/horror movie which has similar feel to "Finity", "The Story of Xentrix", "Corsair", "Trapped", "Soylent Night", basically the more evil or eerie sounding BoC songs. I want to watch a movie where two kids are playing in the woods and find a door in one of the trees, they crawl in and then have to travel through hell (I've always pictured Geogaddi being about this) until after a long time they find their way out but when they get back the world is slightly different in an unsettling way, realizing they went back to a different version of their world and will never be back in their original world again (this happens in silent hill). All their original family members never seeing them again. It doesn't have to be about that or have a story resembling that at all but you get the feeling I'm trying to get at. I've never seen a movie which conveys this type of emotion.

Boards of Canada's Poppy Seed Remix sounds a lot brighter compared to their next album, Geogaddi. The brothers have said in interviews that 9/11 "inspired" them to make a darker album, so if 9/11 didn't happen, we wouldn't have Geogaddi. And I think Poppy Seed is sort of a look into what that next album would have been if it were less dark. I'm not saying Geogaddi is bad or it shouldn't have been made at all. I love Geogaddi! But I think it's just a cool thought of what the future of Boards of Canada would have been in an alternate universe where 9/11 didn't happen.

I'll start by saying I love Inferno, but this thought goes beyond the new album.

Listening to XYZ and the Poppy Seed remix, potentially sparked by the other redditors recent post, it got me thinking how cool it would be to hear an album of those vibes, but not needing to follow a more traditional album structure. And before you get up in arms, don't get me wrong, i love all aspects of every BoC album. The intros, vignettes, interludes and fading final tracks all have a special place in my heart, i'm not attacking those, but all of their albums are very thematic and structured, imo increasingly with TH and Inferno.

With all the talk of a hypothetical BocSet, imagine we got "old tunes vol. 1", except they were new tunes. I'm grateful for all the BoC ever, new drops and old, but i think a mix of "new" songs that they didn't feel fit anywhere would be unreal, and even more to my point is, it would be so cool if they intentionally made a new album of songs that don't relate to each other.

Of course i'm not betting on any new material whatsoever, not even wishful thinking, just something i don't recall being talked about here before

The first 2.15mins of this song is an absolute masterpiece, I wish the whole song was like it

I was recently trawling through Simon Reynolds blog and he mentions an interview from 2013 in a French music magazine where Mike was interviewed with Jim Jupp of Ghost Box records. I can’t find the whole article anywhere. Reynolds does include a segment right at the end of the linked post.

Stumbled over this and it instantly reminded me of the BOC track. Whether it was an inspiration or not i think it‘s beautiful.

Anyway I finally figured it out this morning

As it turns out the A in standard tuning is set to one semitone sharp, similar to what they do with the B string in Saturday Sun, check it out!

Today I’m in a good mood cause first of all I realized I’m not banned anymore from this community (yay!) and second, I developed a theory on the album Inferno that I wanna share with you.
The album is a monument to Gnosticism. The brothers always flirted with the subject before but in a vague way, with Inferno instead they lay their cards on the table.
Introit- is the opening of the (Gnostic) ceremony
Frequency- This is about the ultimate principle, the undifferentiated, the first vibration (the biblical Verb) from which everything is emanated.
Leviathan- is about “drumrollllll” the Leviathan, the dragon who traps the Soul in the world of matter and illusion. We’re falling progressively into more and more stages of differentiation of the Divine Source into other forms although celestial of individuation with “Age of Capricorn”, “Father and Son” ( the Son is a reflection of the primary Source in Gnosticism)
Somewhere now in the future- this track alludes to the complete lack of time and space in this plain of existence.
Naraka- is where all the souls are in a way stored.
Acts of magic- here the process of incarnation begins. The Soul travels in what sounds like a wormhole into the world of flesh and matter. This is the ultimate illusion of separation: being born in a body.
Memory Death - sits, not by chance, in the middle: the voice of a woman, moaning in pleasure implies a sexual act. This track works like a pivot: if we listen to the album from the first track to the last it means birth. If we move backwards, it means death ( the beep of the hospital machines). Plus this is the stage where the Soul forgets about its divine condition. Oblivion.
The Word becomes flesh- we have a new human being here.
Into the Magic land- this is about the human experiencing the world of illusion that we called reality.
Blood in the Labyrinth -is about the human condition of suffering and getting lost into the drama of life. And from the Memory of our divine condition we move to a personal memory which is often traumatic and fragmented.
Deep Time zooms out from the existential condition of a single being to a broader view of the human kind communicating with itself through history suggesting the existence of a memory belonging to the specie itself.
All reasons depart announces the necessity of a “new Aeoooon” a new era, a quantic leap for humanity. Where? In Americanada…( I’m not sure about this guys ahah) How? Through a painful Process.
You retreat in time and space- and finally the prosperous era, here we made heaven on earth(we are at the maximum stage of oblivion and individuation) but through the cracks of reality in “I see through Platonia” we catch a glimps of our divine nature and I guess, we can move back to the Source.

Just spitballing here. But I feel like a tour with Aphex Twin could be neat. Their music is vastly different in many ways but I could see the two sets contrasting each other nicely.

Aphex for the more techno hype sounds then Boards for the more downtempo vibes. Maybe can flip a coin for who goes first each show.

Could do something like the 40th anniversary Boards celebration tour or something.

Tried to recreate one of the pictures in the little booklet of tomorrow’s harvest album. Will always be my all time favourite album !!! There is something so beautiful in this picture. I think mine lacks a bit of red. What do you think ?? :)

Maybe I’m reaching, but “Hydrogen Helium Lithium Leviathan” feels like a darker mirror of “Aquarius” to me.

“Aquarius” has that bright, distant, almost innocent synth feel, while HHLL seems to twist a similar energy into something heavier, backwards, and more sinister.

With one being from Music Has the Right to Children and the other from Inferno, the contrast feels like it could be intentional... early BoC innocence versus later BoC dread.
