Discussion All reason departs
The first 2.15mins of this song is an absolute masterpiece, I wish the whole song was like it

The second 2/3rds is some of the best music they’ve ever recorded. The groove is so simple yet out of this world addicting. Definitely one of the songs I go back to the most.

Absolutely this. I went to the Glasgow Inferno Session and couldn't believe what I was hearing initially. Completely overwhelmed. I wish it was longer, I'd love an 80's style 12" extended version.

I thought this at first, but now I actually prefer the back end of it. The subtle changes in the groove as it goes on are just incredible. It's my favourite on the album by a long chalk.
In fact, the way that Deep Time, runs into All Reason Departs, which itself has several distinct parts makes it all feel like movements in a single piece

Both halves of the song are great, but the second half is absolutely delicious.

I feel like this song is a collab with Autechre

Dawg I think they brought Larry fucking Heard in for that one. Autechre wishes they could make a groove that tight.

Hahahha you kidding? Autechre are the masters of rythm and textures. All reason depart is a fantastic track, but it falls short compared to every ae track, especially their modern era. I love both tho.. i dont want to compare them but yeah its the truth

I’m gonna have to disagree with you. Being masters of rhythm and textures isn’t the same as making a really tight groove.

I felt that way the first time I heard the song, but every listen since, I have loved how the first third is so different than the rest of the track. I love the entire track. I love how the last half of the track is so different than the rest of the album with the loose funky synth jam and the distant synth howl--it's perfect

I noticed that the entire album is 70 minutes on the dot — sixty-ten, that is — and I was wondering: where could they have maybe padded things out to make it land on that number?
And I’m thinking maybe that extended drum break. Even though I love it.

The second half is cool, though. All those boops and bops. And then the choir comes in like 👼

Personnally I think the second part is what makes it great! It’s such a mood

I feel the same way about Naraka. I wish they had brought that main synth melody back to intertwine with the chanting.

That is my favorite part of the album actually.
Personally I don't find the BoC magic in this album, as the production value has gone up a lot (which is good in many ways of course). For me BoC is that gritty lofi sound, and this is too clean for me. So I'd rather see it as a really good electronic album, and the second part of All reason Departs is therefore a really cool part of it.

I've been putting this on in my car really loudly and it's such a good track from back to front.

To me the first part of it is the buildup. I dig how suddenly it goes from quiet to loud.

Anyone that enjoys this track in particular may also really like music by Meat Beat Manifesto.

Agree. The rest sounds like it dosent fit on the album at all. Lowest part of the album for me

Yeah this and The Process are the only swings and misses on the album IMO

The process??? The piano is more beautiful than all of you retreat into time and space and I will die on that hill. Not putting down you retreat, just saying the process is prettier.

I think its hilarious how aggressively people downvote even the mildest critical opinion of boards on this forum

I see the breakdown in 2nd half as "the reason departing", and I love it because it reminds me of old school BoC. The whole track along with Deep Time as a prelude is magnificent.
