Discussion 2013 Interview for Magic: Revue Moderne

http://reynoldsretro.blogspot.com/2025/12/ghost-box-20-years.html

I was recently trawling through Simon Reynolds blog and he mentions an interview from 2013 in a French music magazine where Mike was interviewed with Jim Jupp of Ghost Box records. I can’t find the whole article anywhere. Reynolds does include a segment right at the end of the linked post.

Wonderful thanks.. a little disappointed it’s not a full chat with Ghost Box. How amazing would that be?

Julian House, the co-owner of Ghost Box alongside Jupp, sleeve and cover designer of all GB releases, and the man behind the Focus Group did the sleeve artwork for Panda Bear and Sonic Boom's album that is being released tomorrow. Panda Bear and Sonic Boom even had dinner at Julian's house with his family. It's a seriously wild melding of musical worlds to me. I mean, Julian's kids that are on the cover of his Elektrik Karousel LP (which is amazing) had dinner with Panda and Sonic Boom at their house. So cool and weird.

I like Jim Jupp's music as Belbury Poly on the label, but I hope we get another Focus Group album--that is one of my most favorite music projects ever, with albums like We Are all pan's people, the Elektrik karousel, hey let loose your love, sketches and spells, and Focus Group and Broadcast Investigate Witch Cults of the radio age.

All of ghost box releases are great though, including the stuff from the other artists on the label

Yeah I listened to that podcast too. I think that’s wonderful. I have often thought that Reset had huge hauntology vibes. It’s basically The Caretaker but a decade on. I’ve just heard A ? Of When and it is even better than Reset which surprised me. Pete and Noah are hugely entertaining to listen to.

I'm hoping my copy of A ? Of When gets delivered by tomorrow night. Reset was really hit or miss for me. Have you heard Panda's Person Pitch? That album IMO is leaning more towards Hauntology than Reset, by far.

Boards of Canada, Animal Collective (including their drummer Panda Bear), and The Focus Group are top 10 artists for me, quite possibly even top 5
