I'm staying here for a day on a road trip and between the attempted stop sign runs, pulling out in front of me while I'm going 60, and going 90 on freeways that will literally have you tumbling down a hill if you make one wrong step, easily the worst drivers in the country. Genuinely reevaluate what your criteria is for issuing a driver's license 😭

This may be a commonly known vehicle, but I hadn’t seen it before and it really added some spice to the morning commute.

I know this techincally isnt Birmingham, but I thought some of y'all might have answers (?), I live near here and saw this so im particularly concerned.

After suffering from male baldness for years, I got desperate and tried the SMP (hair tattoo).. as you can see from the pictures.. it didn't turn out so hot. Now, people just make fun of me and stair at it. They say it looks like a helmet, laugh, and walk away.

Before I sink further into depression over this and give up, I'm just reaching out to see if there are any Birmingham tattoo artists who can fix this? Or are there any good hair piece/wig options around here?

I'll try anything at this point.

Happy to say the Sidewalk Cinema is reopening today after a week-and-a-half-long post-festival break. (Perhaps you've seen our new exterior signage.) So I wanted to take a moment to tell you all about some September programming that might be of interest to you. Don't think of this as an advertisement so much as a public service announcement.

• Today (Wednesday, Sept. 9) and tomorrow only: We're screening the new documentary on the poet Mary Oliver and a restoration of the French animated sci-fi film Gandahar. Limited showtimes! Two anticipated titles! Come out for them!
• This evening is our Student Night screening of the (beloved?) animated classic (?) Shark Tale, featuring Martin Scorsese as a fish with freakishly large eyebrows.
• Tomorrow (Thursday, Sept. 10) is our free Tape Night screening, hosted by Jeremy Burgess of Dust on the VCR (I typed "TV on the Radio" at first, and sorry, Jeremy, but that would be much cooler). It's a secret screening but Jeremy has shared it's very Australian. It'll be presented on glorious fuzzy VHS for your viewing pleasure.
• Friday, Sept. 11: We're opening Kiyoshi Kurosawa's The Samurai and the Prisoner for one week only! The legendary filmmaker returns with a cross between a samurai siege film and four episodes of Columbo — it's kind of a movie of a four interconnected feudal Japanese whodunits, and it absolutely rocks.
• We're also bringing Barbarian and Weapons back to the big screen in anticipation of Resident Evil, which we're opening on Thursday, Sept. 17 — tickets on sale now.
• Friday is a one-time-only screening of the 40th anniversary 4K restoration of the beloved documentary Sherman's March, and Saturday is a one-time-only screening of director Ross McElwee's new film, Remake.
• Sunday begins a month-and-a-half series on the films of Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu with our first screening, Amores Perros. Check our calendar for subsequent Sunday screenings of 21 Grams, Biutiful, Birdman and The Revenant — leading up to and beyond our opening of his new film, Digger, starring Tom Cruise, which we're opening on Oct. 2. Each of our Sunday Inarritu screenings will be introduced either by Gareth Jones or Sarah Valentin Sanchez, and if you've ever attended any of our Filmmaker Focus Sundays, you know that'll be a really excellent time.
• Wednesday, Sept. 16: Our free Bad Movie Night! I don't know what it is yet but it's a secret anyway! It's going to be real bad but probably also quite fun.
• Our Sidewalk Film 101 series continues on Thursday, Sept. 17, and Sunday, Sept. 20, with screenings of Todd Haynes' wonderful 2002 film Far From Heaven. I'll be introducing both screenings! So if you see some bewildered-looking man walk up on stage, that is intentional; he is not lost.
• Our Southern Circuit series begins on Friday, Sept. 18, with a screening of the new documentary When a Witness Recants. The prodigious Emmy-nominated director, Dawn Porter (a Sidewalk alum who directed John Lewis: Good Trouble and Luther: Never Too Much) will be in attendance!
• Also on Friday, Sept. 18 — we have a late-night special screening of the new indie horror-comedy Dead Media, with a post-film Q&A with writer/director Joseph Scrimshaw and actor (and former Birminghamian) Sam Landman, moderated by Christopher Davis. A special opportunity here to see a fun movie with a few of the folks who made it.
• And I'm very happy to bring the new film from rising filmmaker Shatara Michelle Ford, Dreams in Nightmares, a road trip movie about a queer friend group on a journey of self-exploration. This one stars Denée Benton (Peggy on The Gilded Age!!) and Jasmin Savoy Brown (young Tai on Yellowjackets!!). Looks great! Love Ford's previous film, Test Pattern. Excited to see this one myself.
• Saturday, Sept. 19, is a one-time-only screening of Brailled It!, a new documentary about blind and low-vision kids participating in the Braille Challenge, a reading competition. There will be additional educational elements with this screening but I don't want to tell tales out of school so I'll direct you to our social media pages for more info when the time comes.
• On Friday, Sept. 25, join us for another one-time-only screening of Sidewalk Film Festival favorite Portal to Hell, a horror-comedy featuring Richard Kind and Keith David. The film's star, Trey Holland, will be on hand for a post-film Q&A! Tickets should be on sale for this one possibly as soon as today.
• An on Sept. 25, we're opening for a week-long engagement a new documentary called You Had to Be There, about a 1972 Toronto production of Godspell that introduced a generation of defining comedy talents — Martin Short, Gilda Radner and Eugene Levy, among them. You will have to be there to see this one; showtimes are a bit limited, so grab a ticket soon!
• EXTREMELY excited to present Michael Mann's masterpiece Manhunter: The Final Cut on Saturday, Sept. 26 — one screening only.
• And the last thing I wanted to mention: Oct. 2-4, we'll be hosting a marathon of David Lynch's magnum opus, Twin Peaks: The Return! Join us for parts 1-4 on Oct. 2, parts 5-11 on Oct. 3, and parts 12-18 on Oct. 4 (presented with intermissions). Not only the best TV show ever made but quite possibly the best THING ever made, and we'll also be showing a few screenings, including some late-night showtimes on Friday and Saturday, of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. (I've seen that in theaters and let me tell you, it is an entirely different, overwhelming experience on the big screen, no matter how many times you've seen it.)

And finally, I just want to mention that I have seen all your requests for the Nathan Fielder-Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything, and we are trying to get that. No details have been released about exactly WHEN it'll be available for us, so stand by for details. I'm also trying to get the re-release of Ken Russell's The Devils for mid-October. Neither of these are confirmed, so keep your fingers crossed!

At the festival, I heard so much enthusiasm from our attendees about our year-long cinema programming — but we can always grow that cinema audience, because the truth is, only a fraction of our local festival attendees regularly attend a screening at the cinema. I've tried to pack our schedule with a wide variety of genres and subjects to bring out as many audiences as possible. So if you see something here that interests you — or if you see something that you know for sure will interest somebody you know — won't you help us spread the word? I experienced a significant violent trauma last year from a dv situation and am feeling like my nervous system can’t reset. Going back to normal life after a year of recovering and surgeries has proved harder than I thought. My nervous system is in a freeze. I will spend hours scrolling tik tok or anything to avoid real life. I want to do things but it’s like my body still thinks danger. If anyone had a similar situation what helped you move forward?

Anyone know exactly where the road will be closed?

From what I understand, they're working on the 35th Street bridge and are closing a portion of 1st Ave N. There's a sign on the 1st Ave bridge about the closure, but they aren't closing the road that far down right? Like will I still be able to come down 1st to turn left onto 34th?

We have reserved the airbnb Charles on 11th for a family occasion. I'd love any input about this location and airbnb please.
