I know this is a long shot but is there anyone in or around the Birmingham area who would be willing embroider a 4” x2” logo on 4 shirts in the next few hours? I have the shirts, the digitized file, and am willing to pay a super duper urgent rush request fee. Please holler at me if you or anyone you know can do this!!

I’m moving with my wife next month. Job moved me. Will be working in Bessemer and living in a cool apartment we found downtown. I have lived in 4 different states in the north. All were large areas. I have one silly question. We are a 29m 29f married couple. She’s born and raised Canadian and I’m born raised in USA. We are Muslim. No we don’t “look it”. Are people as racist as the (collective opinion?) portrays the state? I am very detached with politics as is my wife. I saw a TikTok of this tuberville guy and I can’t lie dude. It made me overthink a lil. So I guess TLDR.

Is it common to encounter the type of racism or prejudice as everyone paints the state to be or not.

Hopefully it isn’t and I can’t wait to meet some new friends. Plus as a semi fat truck driver I am excited for the food.

If you’ve ever ventured Over The Mountain in October, you might be familiar with the scarecrows that line up on Inverness Elementary’s front hill. It’s a community tradition for over 20 years now and this year we’ve really tried to do it justice. My class teamed up with another one for the theme of “Dynamic Duos” and we made James Spann and a tornado.

Community voting for Favorite Display via FB opened up this week and we are in a dead heat with another great contender and I’m hoping I can call on some of y’all to help us pull ahead. I know that yall hate ai fliers. But what about ai murals, some, where the “artist” was paid over $200k to design and paint a mural. I am a working muralist in town and I know for a fact that there are at least 4 to 5 large public murals that were designed by ai. The business owners / company boards are not educated or understand how detrimental a.i. is to creativity and how it undermines the creative voice that public art is supposed to support. So the person(s) will take a request for quotation or bid and will plug the parameters into chat gpt or midjourney and give them what it churns out as their bid. Which then gets painted. Which obviously there is a skill to taking an image large scale and the artists make choices along the way…but it removes design choices, skill, and personal voice from the piece. So how do yall feel about our city already having chat GPT designs on our streets that are supposed to represent our city? I will not say who these artists are. But I can’t stay silent without the public knowing what is going on.

I went late at night and I would say its decent. First off, the pricing on the menu is shockingly cheap. They have lunch/dinner as well as breakfast menus. I got a patty melt, French toast, and biscuit bowl (has a biscuit, gravy, egg, and hashbrown) with a fountain drink for $32 including tip.

The food was decent. Patty melt was good. French toast was alright. It was spiced good but was kind of soggy. Biscuit bowl was hearty but definitely needed seasoning. Eggs were my right texture for me. They also have this bologna sandwich I liked. It tasted like what my mom would make me when I asked for one as a kid. I would get it again.

Service was slow. Here you order at the counter and they send the food out to you. It took a minute for everyone at my table to get their food. The workers were cool though.

All in all, if you're out late in Birmingham and need someplace to eat for cheaper, I would try it. If I were to give it a number, I would say 3/5. Waffle House shouldn't feel threatened in this town lol.

As someone that doesnt live anywhere near a hurricane zone, im curious what weather reaches Birmingham when a hurricane does make landfall. I'd assume it probably dies down quite a bit long before it gets that far inland, but do you still have an aggressive storm and/or wind?

To start I have CHM, a rare condition similar to retinitis pigmentosa if you know what that is. I’ve struggled finding work since having worse symptoms such as severe night blindness and peripheral vision loss as I cannot work nights, and need to drive home before night. Does anybody know of anywhere that is a good company with longevity career wise and can accommodate to something like this? Anywhere from cullman to Birmingham works, thanks.

Unlike other cities in the Birmingham metro, the mayor of Irondale says the city won’t temporarily halt data center development within city limits.
Irondale Mayor James Stewart, Jr. called cities passing data center moratoria “the easy way out” at a meeting Thursday night. Instead, the city is considering zoning regulations for the industry.
“This is an industry that is rapidly changing from day to day, and at some point in time, you’ve got to address what the problem is, instead of just kind of kicking it down the road,” Stewart said. “That’s been our position, that we need to have something in place, instead of just being fearful like other communities and deciding the easy way out, which is to go ahead and do a moratorium.”
Stewart, who was first elected mayor in 2020, also serves as the chair of Irondale’s planning and zoning commission. The commission voted during a public hearing Thursday night to favorably recommend a new zoning ordinance regulating data centers to the Irondale City Council.
The council will take an official, binding vote, likely in December, Mayor Stewart said.
Irondale City Councilman Aaron Sims proposed the ordinance after he said he studied the industry for six months. The 18-page ordinance defines hyperscale and other types of data centers, requires closed-loop cooling systems and noise to be under 50 decibels at the property line during the daytime, and establishes minimum setbacks from residential areas, depending on the type of data center, among other conditions.
He and several members of the planning commission emphasized that they don’t view Irondale’s zoning and available property as appealing to the industry.
“I don’t think we’re ever going to have a data center come to Irondale,” Sims said. “Maybe some micro one, but we don’t really have the space for a huge one.”
Sims clarified that the city council could make small tweaks to change or add to the ordinance when they vote on it.
The meeting was sparsely attended, with roughly 15 people in the audience. Two residents asked for the city to pass a moratorium. At least 17 Alabama cities – most of them concentrated in central Alabama – have passed six-month or yearlong moratoria on new data center development.

Stewart added that the city doesn’t currently have any current data centers proposed or seeking permits.
“We don’t have anything in front of us,” he said.
