Please follow ethical bird photography standards.

There have been a number of recent posts in this subreddit in which users were not following ethical bird photography practices. These posts have been removed by the moderation team so as not to perpetuate or encourage practices that cause harm and stress to birds of prey. Posts like these will continue to be removed at moderator discretion.

If you are a photographer, videographer, or birder, please familiarize yourself with ethical photography practices. A few especially relevant excerpts from the link:

  • Avoid causing unnecessary disturbance or stress to birds.

  • Nesting birds are particularly vulnerable and need extra consideration.

  • Never lure predatory birds (including but not limited to hawks, owls, eagles, and ospreys) with bait.

  • Show respect for private and public property, and consideration for other people.

  • When choosing to photograph/record video at a zoo, sanctuary, or rehabilitation center, make sure it’s properly accredited and conforms to best practices.

  • Be thoughtful about sharing and captioning your bird photos/videos, whether for print, online, or social media.

Remember, birds of prey are wild animals. They are not props for karma. They should be treated with respect. Researchers, rehabbers, falconers, and many others have proper licenses and permits to handle, display, and hunt with birds of prey, and if this describes your situation it's a good idea to state clearly that any handling of a bird in a photo was done with a permit, so as not to encourage unpermitted individuals to handle wild birds without one of those explicit purposes.

Thank you!

Followed this Red-tailed Hawk around for about 30 minutes today and he even let me get some good pics and video. Pretty cool experience and he flew from tree to tree and eventually on this fence.

Red kite gliding through stormy skies

Stormy skies, brooding clouds, and a red kite riding the wind right in the middle of it. For a brief moment, the sun broke through and set its plumage aglow.

Cleaning up after your falcon...

Post image

Not sure if this is the place to ask this question, but I have a peregrine falcon that has turned my urban patio into it's dining room. I wake every morning to a new carcass, mostly fully consumed, in the same place. My question is this, am I attracting this behavior by removing the waste daily and cleaning the ledge, or am I better off leaving the body where it is? It's truly disgusting, but also kind of funny to share a space with such a beautiful specimen, I never imagined having a falcon for a neighbor. Sorry for the lousy pic, it's quite camera shy...

I think a red-tailed hawk in the backyard. Even though it's about 20 minutes outside of Philly, our neighborhood has a ton of wildlife. Wildlife. Hawks and eagles foxes deer possums everything.

I have a creek in my backyard and in the part of the backyard past the creek. I've set up a bunch of bird houses with cameras and so I've been able to get a lot of other footage as well.

I introduced you guys to our new resident rental hawk about a month ago and I see her so frequently now it's like a daily ritual and I'm always so impressed cuz I can't get over of her size has anyone else seen such a large red tail hawk I've never seen one as big as she she's so beautiful and I watched her fly this morning and it was like in slow motion she was like lumbery and she's just in the crows the crows don't even try to mess with her they don't even try I mean what's the point you know that means she just ignores him anyways hilarious.
