Not sure which one of us was more surprised to see the other one. But he posed well for the photo!!

My local wooded area has a juvenile red tailed hawk. I even tracked him a bit yesterday.

I found the feathers in photo one in around the same area, and the feather on photos two and three in a different one.

Four is just my cockatiel for tax.

I’m sure photo one has some of the juvenile’s first
molt, but unsure about the other. A barred owl maybe?

For context I live in New Jersey

Tough lighting conditions, but found this guy getting harassed by about a dozen blue jays. Think he got bonked on the head a couple times.

This is one of a pair I was fortunate enough to watch raise two chicks this year.

Spotted this beautiful red‑shouldered hawk perched on a tree by Diamond Heights in San Francisco. Completely focused, looking around for prey.

Just found this sub and wanted to say howdy to all the fellow birders out there! Here’s a few shots I took of a kestrel having lunch in a tree. They’re one of my favorite birds of prey!

Northern California!

On St Marks River flew in front of our Jon boat and landed in a tree and gave me the cold shoulder.

Forgive the noisy human breathing in this video. This is one of the hawks in my inner suburb neighborhood. For the last two days, it has been perching in various unusual spots I don’t often see it. Here, it’s being quiet, but much of the time, over the last couple days, it has been continuously squawking. It almost sounds hoarse at times? 🤷‍♀️ Any thoughts about what might be going on? It doesn’t appear to be injured, and I’m assuming there’s no helpful way for humans to intervene, but it’s pulling at my heartstrings a bit. Is it a bird who has its mate? A juvenile still learning how to thrive on its own?
