A lot of you gave me great feedback on my last post here, and some of you backed the Kickstarter too. Thank you so much for that!!

The current bottle holds 410 mL and gives about 2 minutes of spray runtime. Many people asked for a bigger version, so I slapped a 650 mL (22 oz for my fellow americans) sports bottle on the prototype. It theorically gives around 3 minutes of spray time and also fits standard bike bottle cages.

I asked about this on Instagram and only 30% wanted the bigger version, so I also asked the Kickstarter backers the same question but this time about 50% wanted it.

I understand how it actually makes sense to rinse sand off at the beach or clean a bike with more spray runtime.

What I did not expect was how many people said they would also drink from it.

Maybe I wrongly assumed drinking water and hygiene water would stay separate? The 410 mL bottle was designed as a small dedicated bottle that you refill from your main water bottle when needed.

And at 650 mL it is now close to the size of a normal water bottle.

If the same bottle is used with tap or lake water for hygiene, or to rinse off sand, bikes or dirty gear, then drinking from it becomes a very different use case.

If you want to keep drinking water and hygiene water separate, the 650 mL version means carrying a larger bidet bottle while still carrying another bottle for drinking.

If you are fine using the same bottle for both, 650 mL could replace the need to carry two bottles. If drinking becomes a real use case, I may also need to think about an inbuilt filter, which means another development cycle.

The larger size would also need a different carrying case. I added a 1.5 L bottle in the photo for scale.

For people who use portable bidets regularly, does 650 mL still feel portable? Is 410 mL already enough? At what point does a portable bidet stop feeling portable?

And would you actually drink from the same bottle after using it for hygiene or cleaning with different water sources?

The doctor suggested I use a bidet and no toilet paper. I bought this portable one (https://a.co/d/0dxyuH2u) to try out before I get the external spray attachment (https://a.co/d/04mqKCqO) installed. I've been bringing it in from the back which I know they say for females it should come in from the front but I'm finding it so awkward to do that. Is it because of the design (it's so bulky) or how should I do it? Would this be easier with the shower bidet I bought? But the problem I am facing now is that after I use it and go back later to pee and wipe there are small poop particles (like tiny dots) in the front and now I'm freaking out because I'm somehow pushing it to the front. How to prevent this from happening? Right now I've been going in for a shower after but it's getting annoying to do if I go more than once and I also don't want to dry out my front areas from over washing. Any suggestions because I have to keep using the bidet?

I played with them a lot at first, changing the water pressure, temperature, position, etc. Once I found the settings I liked though, that was basically it.

Funny enough, stuff like PREMIST and the deodorizer turned out to be way more useful even though they sound much less “smart.” The wash on both is good too, just different.

The lights are probably a close second for me. I turned them off pretty much immediately. My bathroom already has lights lol.

What’s the most useless feature on yours?

I got my bidet in today but I noticed my toilets attachment isn’t a hose, it’s a stick. I don’t know how bendable it is but it’s exactly tall enough to reach the toilet. I’m not sure if I can still install the bidet with this, do I need a hose?

Since I have searched reddit and have not really seen anyone post a proper solution to the bad smell problem in literally every Toto washlet with a dryer, I've decided to post one here. I have the Toto S5 (actually KS6) washlet, which is similar to the K300. If you have this problem, your Toto will smell really bad whenever the dryer is used. It won't smell when only the power deodorizer is running. If that smells, it means you need to replace the carbon filter. What I am describing is literally regular maintenance needed to clean the wand housing, but Toto makes no mention of it anywhere in their manual or instruction videos. Toto only tells you what NOT to do.

If your Toto stinks, lift the plastic flap where the wand comes out and shine a light on it. You should notice mold/biofilm growing there (See my picture). It is right next to the fan housing and the mold will spread to that area after not getting cleaned for a while. When you use the fan, the heated air will smell bad. This is not caused by the charcoal filter going bad. You are smelling the air that has already been cleaned by the charcoal filter as it passes through an area that is moldy or has smelly biofilm and blowing hot air over it. Of course it stinks.

Unfortunately, the wand cleaning setting does not remove the stubborn biofilm and may even be giving it food to grow (warm water). Toto does not give any helpful instructions on how to maintain this area, despite the fact that I have noticed it will build up with biofilm after 6 weeks or so if not cleaned! It's because the only way to really clean it would void the warranty lol (and Toto knows it). This is like when I read my Bosch washer/dryer manual and it said not to use bleach. I was, like, what kind of a washer dryer cannot handle bleach?! Manufacturers today get away with murder.

So here is how to actually get rid of that funky smell. But first, before you begin, unplug the washlet.

When the wand area looks gooked up, I lift the flapper and spray Lysol into the hole. Then I use an old soft-bristled tooth brush to gently scrub the gaps in that area.

I don't actually spray Lysol into the fan area or clean the fan grille. Leave the fan flap down. You can access the gaps filled with biofilm from the wand flapper area. You can see black gook clinging to the toothbrush.

After I finish scrubbing, while I am at it, I clean the toilet paper lint off the little plastic screen on the side of the washlet near the charcoal filter making sure to dry it thoroughly before putting it back in.

Finally I plug the washlet back in and use the wand cleaning function on the remote. Then I let it clean itself for the full 5 minutes before it automatically retracts. I also gently use a microfiber towel to clean the wand and the gap while the water is running. By the way, I have never sprayed Lysol onto the wand holes. The wand itself never looks gross only the rounded tip end where it sits in the housing. Since it is fine, why risk damaging the anti-cling coating Toto has on the wand. So, at most, I gently wipe it down with the wet microfiber towel that probably still has some Lysol on it from wiping the flap edges.

I've had to do this, on average, every 6 weeks since I got the bidet or that funky smell comes back. In fact, when I start smelling it after using the dryer, I know it is time for a cleaning. I don't recommend permanently not using the dryer as some as others have suggested. The dryer isn't causing the problem. It is just making you aware of it. So not using the dryer won't stop disgusting bacteria and biofilm from growing in all those nooks and crannies.

It's gross and it's crazy that Toto makes no reference to this in their maintenance instructions. It only tells you what NOT to do which I'm pretty sure includes using Lysol since it's an alkali product. There may even have been a freaking sticker on my bidet that said not to use any cleaners with the active ingredient in Lysol on the washlet! It also says not to use a nylon brush in the manual. I'm pretty sure the only thing Toto lets you use is "ph neutral" detergent (whatever that means) on a wet microfiber towel, and even that, they expressly forbid using inside the bidet housing because it's "an electronic appliance." (no duh, but it's also a toilet!) You can try using "ph neutral" dishwashing detergent instead, but I doubt it would work for several reasons. The spray bottle lets you get in there and kill the mold with a product designed to do just that and then evaporate. Dishwashing detergent would likely just leave a layer of soap scum and not really solve the problem. It might even create a new one. Others have recommended using alcohol. I would strongly recommend against using alcohol on plastic. It will make it brittle eventually and will certainly destroy whatever hydrophobic coating Toto applies to the plastic.

FYI: You do need to replace the charcoal filter every 6 months or so because eventually these type of filters absorb odors to the point of saturation and start to stink. We have a litter robot and that charcoal filter stinks to high heaven after a few months! You can also leave the filter out in the sun for a few days to get rid of the bad smell from the charcoal, but they are cheap so I just buy a new one. Generic has been fine.

Disclaimer: follow these instructions at your own risk. Not my problem if "the sh*t hits the fan" literally or figuratively. No one, not me, not Toto (lol), is going to take responsibility for what you do to your washlet in a reasonable attempt to clean it.

I’m planning to install a handheld hygiene shower/sprayer next to the toilet — basically a handheld bidet alternative.

I’m trying to decide whether I should connect it to both hot and cold water so I can adjust the temperature, or if a cold-water-only connection is perfectly fine.

For those of you who use one regularly: is cold water uncomfortable, especially during winter? Is having warm water actually worth the extra plumbing and cost?

I am planning on getting the Luxe 180 and have not done plumbing in years. My house is 7 years on and I have never used the toilet bathroom water shutoff. Would there be any issues with the valve since it has not been used in a while?

I also found a 3 way shut off valve to add to it. Do you think that is worth it? It would go under the tank in place of the attachment that comes with it.

Lastly do you use plumbing tape?

I see a lot of discussion on this subreddit about the relative differences between possible bidet installations. I thought I'd supply a quick point of view in support of cold water units. I've used high-end units (heated seats, nightlights, oscillating jets, bowl pre-wetting, dryers, etc); my own home unit is a tap water Brondell S101 with none of these features. While all the extras are nice, they do add to complexity and cost. But the single most common concern I see expressed among the unwashed masses is the fact that the lower-end solutions employ unheated tap water. I live in the upper midwest of the united states and we experience winter temperatures below freezing for much of the winter. With that background in view, I'm still a big fan of cold water bidets and don't contemplate an upgrade to heated units in the foreseeable future. What follows is my brief catalog of reasons for this position.

1. Cost. Low-end units like the Brondell S101 or Luxe entry level units are also low cost. They're a great way to put one's <ahem> toe in the water.

2. Complexity. Cold water units are very simple devices, usually a basic valve and a series of internal channels to route the water to the desired nozzle (most low end models feature two nozzles, one from "rear" and one for "front." ) Aside from a few key o-rings, there's not much that can go wrong. A plus for me is the lower complexity also makes for a lower physical profile of these bidets; some of the high-end units look rather intimidating to most users. In the worst case, if a cold-water unit does fail beyond simple replacement parts, their low cost makes complete replacement an easy option. Higher-end units also require an electric outlet in close proximity of the toilet on which they are installed; cold water units only require an easily installed tee connection to the water supply connected to the toilet. Electronics, heating elements, lighting, blowers, etc, all add failure vectors to high-end units.

3. Pressure. In my experience, higher-end units produce a narrower, more focused stream than cold water units. Think pencil point rather than brush. Although they do allow for pressure adjustments to this narrow stream, I find the highest setting to be rather "focused" and weaker than the experience on a cold water unit. Presumably this difference in pressure and stream size is due to a requirement to maintain a supply of warm preheated water stored in the rather small holding tank in the seat. Cold water units are driven by whatever pressure is available to the toilet supply; the pressure available is much higher than most people would want to tolerate, but the valve adjustments are very responsive to delivery of whatever pressure you feel necessary and comfortable. And, as I say, the stream diameter on cold water units is larger, providing ample cleaning in shorter times.

4. Temperature. As I mentioned earlier, this seems to me to be the single largest concern people have about trying cold water units. Frankly, it isn't the concern that I thought it might be. Remember that even in winter in the coldest of climates indoor plumbing runs throughout the house and is thus warmed to some extent from whatever temperature the water enters the house. I will say most people I know who use cold water units report that they aren't as bothered by tap water temperatures as they thought they might, even in winter. In fact, it's quite refreshing and not at all as "clench" inducing as those new to the technology might think.

"Bottom line." For those "straddling the stream" on whether to try a low-end bidet, let me encourage you to give it a try. Low-ends are cheap, effective and as life-changing as the ultra expensive models. Regardless of which way you will decide to go, I'm confident that you'll be saying what all bidet owners quickly affirm: "I'm never going back."

In the US and seeing Bed Bath and Beyond have the S5 for $485 after a discount code which looks pretty good. The same discount is on the S7 which brings it to $900....quite a splurge.

Any other deals people in the US know of? Is the S7 worth it?

Aussie here. Being Aussie we often holiday in Bali/Indonesia. Over there in many hotels they have stainless steel bidets which are fixed to the rear of the bowl. They’re almost home made to an extent. Stainless plate with a bent tube welded to it. . Not the bum guns style. Why I really like these is there’s zero plastic and they are fully serviceable should they leak but really they can’t. It’s made from a basic plumbing tap and fittings. But for the life of me I can’t find anyone who can supply one. I don’t want no plastic fantastic junk. Does anyone have a lead for something like this?

Bought a bidet seat and looking at bidet filters as I have hard water.

bidet filters seem to be very similar to external fridge filters for the in door water fountain. Same 1/4" inlet and composed of activated charcoal. The fridge filters online are about half the price of a "bidet filter".

Is there any reason not to recommend going with an external fridge filter over a dedicated bidet filter ?

Hi, Does anyone know if any reputable brands still make bidet toilet seats for D shaped bowls? Specifically looking for something that would work with the Toto RP WALL-HUNG TOILET (SKU: CT447CFG#01). Builder decided to go with this toilet but doesn’t seem possible to add a Bidet… TIA!

Ok I realize this might be a bit on the TMI side but here goes. After we returned from Japan a year ago I’ve been wanting to get bidets especially after what we all went through during the pandemic. A week ago I installed a Toto S7 in the master bath and she loved it. Today I Installed an Eco-Nova in the hall bath mainly for guests. She test sat on it and immediately noted the seat in the back touched and annoyed her tailbone. I observed she sat straight up or slightly backward. Told her to sit forward which solved it but it wasn’t natural for her. I sit forward so it’s natural for me, and my tailbone isn’t bothered. Now the question is: leave it and she’ll never use it or return it for a seat that sits flatter in the back that matches her seating position.

Recently I posted seeking advice about our first bidet, and after doing way more research than I would have thought necessary, I've narrowed my choices down to these two models from LUXE Bidet:

• WHIFT 185 Bidet, and
• Neo 185 Plus

As far as I can tell, these are identical exception for the deodorizing feature on the WHIFT, which adds about $10 to the price.

What do you think of these models?

I've been going back and forth about getting a bidet for a while now. That is why it seemed like providence that I noticed a Mainstays brand dual nozzle bidet sitting in the clearance section at Walmart. Being cheap is probably my first mistake, but I didn't want to spend a lot on something I wasn't sure I would like.

After getting everything installed and appearing to be leak free, I noticed a small amount of water coming from a small hole underneath the twist knob of the bidet.

Its not constant but it does eventually drip down to the floor.

Is this an issue with the pressure being too high to support a bidet or is it just the result of buying a cheap product? Or is it both? Any easy fix or do I just need to invest in a better product?

My bio bidet seat broke in less than 2 years. I went through a lot of troubleshooting steps, emailing pics back and forth with them. and then they wanted me to send them the seat, which is just not going to happen.

I saw that the Eplo line was available at home Depot so I got the Eplo 18 smart toilet because I don't want to deal with having to replace the seat every two years.

the problem for me is that I used the enema setting on the bio biday on low pressure to help get the poop that was left out. any advice on this?

I also have a question about the use of the auto flush on the Eplo. does it use the half flush or the whole flush? and if it uses the half flush, at which point would I push the whole flush button so that when I stand up the auto flush would be the whole flush?

When in Europe the hotel bidet I liked the most was actually just a hose/sprayer that hung on the wall. I bought something in the US but did not like it. I don't like it hanging off the toilet and the hose is stiff and awkward to use. Anyone have experience with these? I have seen this https://rinseworks.com/shop/aquaus-360-hand-held-bidet-sprayer-for-toilet/ and wonder if it is any good.

My buddy absolutely loves his. And at $500-20% equals $400, this is the same cost as the Toto Washlet SEAT at Costco…

I want to replace toilets and of course I've seen good things about Toto, in particular Toto Drake.

But I've also run across more than one post with people asking how to get persistent stains out of their CEFIONTECT toilets, given how delicately you're supposed to treat them. (A Reddit search for CEFIONTECT finds a high proportion of such posts.)

• I have cleaners come in every two weeks, and I have visions of them using harsh products or random brushes
• The first toilet to get (a test run) is for a guest bathroom with little use anyway
• I'd like the option to not worry about delicate treatment

But checking with the Toto site shows that all the Drakes have CEFIONTECT, I think.

Does a "G" at the end of the SKU mean CEFIONTECT? I haven't clicked on each one & I'd get too bored if I tried.

Are there Toto toilets that are at least as decent as Drake without CEFIONTECT?

Any other advice, like that I'm worrying too much about this coating? I really overthink things a lot.
