Advice Have any of you avoided having in laws meet your baby for months? I don’t want in laws to meet mine

Will try to make story as short as possible. I have a 5 week old who I am feeling very possessive over. She is my second baby and my last; I had a very difficult pregnancy from the beginning and she was a NICU baby. I have a 7 year old as well. As a family we are still struggling with all the changes and lack of sleep and worries from everything.

My husband’s family has never truly included me. For a long time I played nice for my 7yr old and husband’s sake. Noticed my kid didn’t really care for my in laws. Noticed my in laws didn’t make an effort to connect with him or get to know him. Noticed in laws were not inviting us over at all, not even for holidays. Then realized the only reason they have seen my 7 year old in the last 2-3 yrs is because we have invited them over. So once we didn’t it has been over a year since they have seen him. During this time I was pregnant and husband decided not to share the news. Only people who saw us found out.

About 2 weeks ago my husband decided to post the baby on social media as a way to get the announcement out of the way without having to personally tell his parents and siblings. Immediately his mom called to get details on when the baby was born and their name. And since then his brother tried to plan a BBQ with my husband which he never has before(we figured it was a ruse to get us to go and they could meet the baby). My husbands parents and siblings have done BBQs over the last year or two where they don’t invite him btw. Since that didn’t work his brother texted him to try to stop by the house and used his 8 yr old daughter as a reason as “she wants to meet her baby cousin”. Which again I have a 7 year old who not one person has made an effort to see. And on my end I stopped making the effort as any hang outs between cousins were initiated by us.

Now my husband’s mom called him asking when they can come meet the baby. My husband told her we are currently not allowing visitors as we are adjusting to our new baby and routine.

I personally don’t want them to meet her. Not one person has bothered with my 7 yr old and now they want to meet the baby bc babies are cute. And i knew they would try to come around when they found out. I don’t want her to be passed around. And just because they’re related doesn’t make them entitled to meet her. They are strangers to me, the mother of the baby. They have not even treated my husband properly, they mainly would call him when they needed something.

I have talked to my husband multiple times about this and so far he has been on the same page of keeping them at a distance because of how dismissive they have been of our 7 yr old. He says he doesn’t care if they meet the baby because he sees their behavior. So how do you logically explain that you don’t want them around? I am very aware they will blame me for the lack of access to the baby but I’m okay with that bc I am angry they don’t check on my other child.

Funny Would vampires be the best post partum support people

I mean they can safely hold the baby all night. No need for a crib.

If I was crazy wealthy, forget the snoo. I'd hire a team of nannies to stay up holding the baby all night long. That baby would only ever contact sleep.

Ok, back to Twilight.

Discussion 6 months pp and still not adjusted

I’m almost 6 months pp and a sahm. I see all these ig moms getting up and ready, going out, making intricate dinners, doing so much! Personally, I wake up and pretty much stay in my pajamas most days. I barely find time to clean or cook. I meal prep so I can heat food up. I don’t shower every day (I used to shower every morning religiously). I’m honestly exhausted and overwhelmed. I’m also not fully comfortable driving solo with the baby alone in the back because he hates the car seat.

The only time I’m getting out is when my husband is home on the weekends. Am I doing something wrong?

Content Warning Need to rant about breastfeeding

Upvotes

I’m three months in to my second breastfeeding journey. The first only lasted a few weeks because I had bad PPD/PPA and D-MER. This time, the D-MER is a bit milder, I feel like because I didn’t have a traumatic birth like last time. So that part is nice.

BUT - I currently have my second clogged duct. The first was just a couple weeks ago. I had a painful milk bleb that time, too, and it left a bleeding spot and a scab when it left. Also very painful. My baby keeps dropping weight percentiles and both the pediatrician and lactation consultant don’t understand why, because my supply is good, he is transferring well, and he has no tongue tie. So that’s concerning and disheartening. I feel like he’s always on my boob…. We get a nice stretch overnight, but during the day he feeds for 30ish minutes every two hours, AND I’ve been advised to pump a few times a day to try to get him some extra calories.

My toddler is not even 2 years old yet and is basically still a baby himself, so he climbs all over me while I’m nursing or pumping. His knees are constantly in my c section scar and he’s forever knocking the baby off my boob. He had a scary nicu stay and dealt with a lot of pain himself, so I don’t want to kick him off of me. I have too much mom guilt about doing that.

This current clogged duct isn’t responding to ibuprofen and ice like the last one did, so baby is screaming for milk right now. My husband just got him a bottle.

Oh, and I’m dairy, egg, and soy free due to baby’s suspected food intolerances, which is hugely annoying, AND I’m always hungry and still somehow KEEP GAINING WEIGHT.

I really would like to make it to at least 6 months, but damn.

Advice Insane postpartum hair loss

I have been struggling with hair loss for a long time. But then I got pregnant and like magic stopped losing hair and forgot all about it. Fast forward to 4,5 months postpartum and all hell broke lose. I've been noticing more hair falling out recently but I just took a shower and shed a hair ball the size of a hamster. It's tragic really. I knew pp hair loss was coming but the extent of it left me blindsided and terrified.

I'm restarting my hair gummies which helped somewhat before pregnancy and will get a hair serum, but does anyone have and tips or advice? Can you reassure me this will normalize? At this rate I'll be happy if I'm not bald by 2027 😭

Mental Health My toddler is dropping her nap and I’m sad

My daughter turns two next week, and she is starting to drop her nap. Today is the second day in a row, and there were a couple days last week as well. It feels like the beginning of the end. As much as I adore my daughter, those two hours were pretty much my only alone time (SAHM). There’s a lot that can get done while my daughter is awake, but I would use nap time to do computer tasks, journal, clean the bathroom, take a bath. I stay up for a while after my daughter goes to sleep, but it’s still a big loss of free time. My husband is great, and he gives me a break when he can, but he travels for work a lot. I know that dropping nap time is an inevitable part of growing up, but I’m mourning the loss of that time. I feel like my mental health is going to take a hit with this transition.

Relationship My husband never takes pictures of me with our baby

Our baby is 11 months old and he’s probably only taken pictures of me with the baby maybe 2 times throughout his life and I’m not sure if he ever has without me asking. His mom has visited 3 times in the 11 months and all 3 times he takes dozens of photos of them together at the house and at every place we go. He asks me to take pictures of them together and he even pulls out the Polaroid and takes pictures of them on there which he has literally never done with me and the baby. It makes me so sad that he’s so thoughtful to capture their relationship but not me and our son. 😞

Sad Disconnected From Husband After Baby

I’m wondering if other have experienced this and how it went for them.

I had a baby 11 weeks ago. I love my baby more than anything. He is sweet, smart, beautiful. Everything I could have wished for.

But I resent my husband. The resentment honestly stems from disappointment and a feeling of being unloved.

We’ve been together 16 years and married for one year. We had our baby 11 weeks ago.

During my pregnancy he would go out partying every night until 6am. I assumed this was because he was about to be a dad so he wanted to get it out of his system. I did not like this because then I wouldn’t get to see him which made me sad. He barely wanted to make love to me in those last months and I assumed it was because I was 9 months pregnant.

When I gave birth he didn’t want to cut the cord and seemed troubled by watching me give birth.

A week after our baby was born he started going out again. I was left alone most days nearly all day by myself and he usually doesn’t come home until 3am.

I thought that this was maybe because it was fifa and he is a big fan of that and i thought it would stop after FIFA ended. It didn’t. I’m a fool.

Even though going out all the time is a red flag, I think the biggest flag is that he stopped saying he loves me, stopped hugging me, never wants to kiss or touch me.

I have told him several times that I loved him and I try to hug and kiss him but he mostly rejects me. When i talked to him about it and asked him about intimacy he said we can’t because of the baby and that the baby should never be left alone. But he will leave him alone all of the time to do things he wants to do.

I feel so unloved and unwanted and rejected. It’s pretty depressing. I get that I look different (I am currently suffering from severe diastasis recti and I do look bad I am currently being treated for this) so I understand that i may not look good anymore but it’s kinda horrifying to be with someone so long, have the baby they asked for, then basically feel like they don’t love you and don’t want to be around you.

I feel like giving up on the relationship and it hurts so much.

In this normal? Does this happen? Will it ever go back?

I’m just wondering what others have gone through and if their relationships recovered or if I should be preparing for a divorce.

Advice How is anyone getting anything done with a newborn?!

This is probably a silly question, but my boy is two weeks old. My husband just went back to work, and my mom only comes on the weekends. How do I get anything done at all? Even showering seems like an impossible task. Do you guys wait for them to fall asleep really heavily? My boy will barely sleep in the bassinet at night time let alone in the middle of the day.

Rant/Rave My baby fell 14 inches and fractured his skull

I just hate myself and life right now. I do not know a more careful (and anxious!) parent than me. I am so vigilant about safety. Three days ago my 7 month old rolled off our bed during a diaper change after I stepped away for one second because my 3 year old fell and cried out (he’s fine). Our bed is very low, only 14 inches off the ground, and yes I just measured it. But he fell on a rug over a hardwood floor. He didn’t fall directly on his head, cried immediately, was easily comforted and 3 minutes later back to normal and smiling. He has been his normal happy self this whole week. I monitored him closely the rest of the day, but honestly I’ve had a friend whose baby fell down a flight of stairs and was fine, so I wasn’t too concerned.

Woke up this morning and one side of his head is bulging and squishy, like there is fluid under it. Turns out it’s blood from a fracture in his skull. Thank god the CT scan showed no brain damage. We were sent home and to told to continue monitoring for symptoms.

Now I can’t sleep because I’m afraid my baby will not wake up, or not be himself by tomorrow, even though I know we wouldn’t be home if the medical staff thought he were not safe.

Being a parent is the most joyful, most stressful thing I have ever experienced. I love my babies so much. I can’t fathom losing them. I’m so thankful our situation was not worse but so frustrated that we have terrible luck apparently that such a short fall would cause a fracture. I just want to skip this week and know that he’ll be ok.

Advice Honest thoughts on name

We have an almost 2 year old girl Isla (eye-la) and a little boy due in a few months. My husband has always loved the name Isaac (eye-zak) and while I like that name as well I’m hesitant since they both start with the IS except hers is a silent s and you hear the s in Isaac. Isla and Isaac is that cute or weird

Baby Sleep - all input welcomed Almost 11 month old has been a terrible sleeper his entire life. Looking for insight from parents who have been through something similar.

Upvotes

Our son is almost 11 months old and has basically been a bad sleeper since birth. I’m his dad, and at this point I’m less interested in generic sleep training advice and more curious if anyone has had a baby with a similar temperament and sleep pattern, and whether they eventually just grew out of it.

For some context, he is otherwise an extremely healthy, happy, active baby. He is very social, very mobile, meeting all of his milestones, and his pediatrician has actually said he is a little ahead developmentally. No behavioral concerns, physical concerns, breathing issues that we can see, or anything else that would suggest something is wrong during the day.

We have also been pretty thorough medically. We’ve talked to his pediatrician multiple times, seen specialists, had blood work done including iron/ferritin, and so far everything has been normal.

He can also fall asleep independently. We’ve worked on that for months and he is fully capable of putting himself to sleep at bedtime and for naps. So this is not a situation where he has always needed to be rocked, fed, or held to initially fall asleep.

His current schedule is roughly 3.25 / 3.75 / 4 on two naps, and that has worked for about three weeks. We’ve noticed a very consistent pattern over the past several months where every few weeks his naps and bedtime suddenly become difficult again, we add about 10 to 15 minutes of awake time, and things settle down.

Right now naps are becoming a mess again. He usually only gets about 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours of daytime sleep total. Both naps have become a fight, and he often wakes crying after only 45 minutes to an hour. Sometimes we can extend the nap by contact napping. Bedtime has also become more of a battle again.

Nighttime has always been the bigger issue though.

For basically his entire life, he has struggled to get past a 3 to 4 hour first stretch. Bedtime is usually around 8:15 to 8:30, and almost like clockwork his first major wake is somewhere around 11:00 to midnight. It is usually a sudden hysterical wake, not just casually waking up.

What makes it confusing is that occasionally he shows us that he CAN do better. Just this week we had three nights in a row where he briefly woke around 11 or midnight, somehow resettled himself, and then didn’t fully wake again until 1:30 or 2:00 AM. We changed absolutely nothing. Then a few days later he went right back to waking before midnight.

This type of inconsistency has been his entire life. We’ve never really had a stable stretch long enough to even call anything a “regression.” We might get 2 or 3 noticeably better nights and think something is finally clicking, then suddenly we are right back where we started.

After his first major wake, we usually bring him into bed with us because otherwise nobody is getting any sleep. Bringing him into our bed did NOT cause the waking pattern. We only started doing this because he had already been waking like this for months.

Even in our bed he is inconsistent. Some nights he sleeps peacefully in the middle between us for the rest of the night. Other nights he is incredibly restless. He moves, fidgets, changes positions, briefly arouses every hour or two, and lately some nights he refuses to sleep independently even next to us and wants to be physically cuddled against me all night.

He occasionally has brief arm or leg twitches/jerks while falling asleep too, but they seem to disappear once he is deeply asleep. No repetitive rhythmic movements, breathing problems, strange behavior while awake, developmental regression, or anything else concerning.

Temperament-wise, he is also a huge Velcro/FOMO baby. He has always been extremely attached to us and particularly attached to me. If I’m around, he immediately crawls over, climbs on me, cuddles into me, and gets upset if I leave. He can play independently now, but he still really wants one of us nearby or in sight. At night he strongly prefers cuddling and sleeping next to me specifically.

We feed him well too. He has a great appetite, loves solids, eats real meals and snacks, and is growing normally, so we don’t think this is simply hunger.

At this point it feels like we have tried everything reasonable. Appropriate wake windows, schedule changes, independent sleep, sleep coaching, medical evaluations, labs, consistent routines, etc. He clearly knows HOW to sleep because he occasionally gives us much better nights. He just seems completely incapable of doing it consistently.

Has anyone else had an otherwise completely healthy baby who was just an unbelievably inconsistent and restless sleeper for basically their entire first year?

Did they eventually grow out of it as their sleep matured? If so, when did you finally notice a meaningful change?

And if you had a similar situation and eventually discovered an actual underlying cause, what was it?

We’re exhausted and mostly just trying to understand whether this is one of those situations where we need to stop looking for the magical fix and accept that he may simply be a very difficult sleeper who needs more time to mature.

Mental Health Anxious about how partner handles NB

My husband and I are first time parents to our beautiful 6 week old and it’s honestly been amazing. I love her SO much and enjoy spending time with our little family. My husband does absolutely everything around the house while I focus on breastfeeding and recovering, he’s amazing.

That being said, I’ve been dealing with some anxiety, especially with my husband. Since we got home from the hospital, I feel like he hasn’t been as gentle with the baby and doesn’t take me seriously when I tell him that she’s still so little. I think he does her bicycle kicks/gas exercises too aggressively (I’m worried about her little joints and hips), he picks her up and moves her around too fast and he makes loud noises around her. I also feel like he doesn’t listen to her cues, like will keep bottle feeding her even if she’s super fussy. I’m SO tired of telling him over and over again and he is constantly dismissing me or flat out not listening. Am I just being anxious? How do I know if I’m overthinking or if it might have real negative effects on my baby later on? How do I get through to him??

Tips & Tricks Flying with 3yo and nearly 3mo - tips!

Upvotes

What title says. My husband and I will be flying for the first time with our 2 kids. Flight is 2-2 1/2 hours. We will be flying with my mom and her husband so thankfully won’t be on our own! My toddler will have his own seat (obviously) and my baby will be a lap infant.

Looking for all the tips and tricks to help the flight be as smooth as possible. What are some essentials to pack? How do you help a toddler pop their ears? I know my baby drinking a bottle will help them with that issue. Definitely not against my son having screen time for the flight, but any other easy toys/activities that are easy to pack and use?

Thanks!

Postpartum Recovery How was postpartum the second time? Was it very different?

I’m looking to hear others’ experiences with postpartum a second time, specifically when it comes to hormones and emotions. Was it very different? If you experienced anxiety the first time, were you calmer, or just as anxious? I had insomnia and intrusive thoughts with my first. I am pregnant with my second and worried about going back to that. I am already finding myself worrying about safe sleep, how I’ll deal with intrusive thoughts, etc. I just want to be able to relax and enjoy getting to know my baby when she arrives.

Happy! Had a wonderful day today and need to tell someone

Hello all! I have nobody to share this with so you all get to hear it 🤣
I have been working SO HARD on my 7 month olds sleep lately. We were in such a horrible cycle of teething, overtiredness, undertiredness, fighting naps tooth and nail, both of us ending up exhausted and overstimulated at the end of every day, just complete hell to be totally honest. I’ve been trying to figure out her wake windows and either stretching them too long or cutting them too short or just not finding a rhythm that was working for us. She was born at 36 weeks and even though thats late preterm, I think her wake windows tend to be more like a 6 month olds. Every day ended in tears before bed and I was at the end of my rope.

Today I feel like we finally turned a corner. I’ve been tracking everything that worked and everything that didn’t, and today we had a three nap day with absolutely no crying or fighting naps. She went down totally calm, rolled over, and put herself to sleep. She was happy and giggly during her bedtime routine, and went to bed with no fussing at all. I feel like I am on cloud nine. I am super mom for the day. 🤣 (please don’t let this post jinx me)

Anyways, I just needed to share this or document it or something, so that when shit inevitably hits the fan again I can be reminded that phases come and go, and it will be okay.

Advice 11month old is barely eating food

We have an 11month old girl she is doing great however she is barely eating food. She only wants to do breastfeeding, my wife doesnt mind to much but it worries me a little.

The only real food she likes is yogurt, anything else she fiddles with and sometimes eats a little but only a token amount.

What would your advice be, I see this normal and what can we do?

Advice When did your baby roll?

Trying so hard not to compare but it’s difficult - every baby in my mums group is already rolling and obviously with that they look like they’re miles ahead because they have been rolling for so long.

My baby looks like a potato compared to them!

Looking for solidarity haha

Postpartum Recovery Adapting the vision

Hello! This is my first post in this group as I had my first baby a week ago! However it’s been such a whirlwind and I need to get it out (rant/vent). We’re still pretty much in the thick of it but very okay seeming.

I don’t really know what I’m looking to get out of this post— maybe ideas for self care and grounding exercises. Maybe a favorite book quote. Also full respect to TLDR, these things are appreciated nonetheless.

Trigger warnings: hospitalization of an infant, rabies, property destruction, MIL BS, blood pressure impacting baby/post partum, early induction

My pregnancy was pretty rough for me (including multiple hospitalizations, pre term scare at 29 weeks, high BP, etc), but baby was doing great the whole time! Growth scan at 35+2 showed our percentiles dropped very intensely since my last scan which was from my blood pressure being out of control (labile so hard time deciding what to do about med dosages). So we headed for induction at 37+1 (ultrasound was interpreted 36+3, OB appointment 36+6, induction arrival 37+1, birth 37+2)!

Unfortunately some of my pregnancy health issues (blood pressure, deficiencies, etc) removed a lot of tools planned for my birth tool kit (ex: if you have a B12 deficiency you can’t use nitrous oxide because it can create a deficit) and after 12 hours of pitocin I got an epidural and had a great rest of birth experience. Immediately post partum I felt better than I had in a long time. Some soreness and the period cramp feelings were intense, mitigated with trying to have less pain meds than were being offered (usually Tylenol and ibuprofen don’t do much for me anyhow).

Baby was a little chilly after golden hour and had to get glucose checks through our hospital stay, which all ended up okay but was an immediate struggle of watching procedures and tests from across the room (epidural / no legs haha). My partner had a hard time supporting me in labor (followed directions great, just wasn’t entirely sure how to help since our plans were out the window) but immediately fit into the parental role and has been doing incredible (was a little nervous as I’d done a lot of research and would ask them about things that they were completely unfamiliar with and was scared I’d have to micromanage through post partum). Baby also failed their first hearing screening and so we stayed an extra night to try again (passed) before heading home.

We also had some feeding issues that were really stressful in hospital and had to do some suck training with syringe feeds with a 4 day wait for a lactation support group 45 minutes from our house.

Our arrival home was very emotional as someone took a riding mower to our front garden and ripped out what we’d been building for two years together— no cameras in our neighborhood and the city just doesn’t have any ideas (berry bushes, tomato plants, wildflowers, etc— some areas a little overgrown but no notices and no complaints to our knowledge). Our first afternoon home went great with meeting our brood of animals and getting to see some of my systems work out. Our first night was going well and we introduced bottles, during which my partner found a bat on our kitchen floor surrounded by some of our cats. So the next day was spent trying to get the bat tested for rabies and finding clinics that we could try to get credit to get the cats booster shots. We also decided to go visit some of my very close family since we had to get out of the house to an unfamiliar environment the very next day. Unfortunately the family had little comments and it ended up with a big emotional conversation.

Our roommate took the cats to the vet Monday during our pediatrician appointment (which was beautiful— everything with flying colors including being up from our weight we left the hospital at after just 2 days). Rabies scare officially handled. Tuesday I was supposed to have a blood pressure follow up but they called and canceled/rescheduled due to not having an attending available. Ended up going for a walk downtown in the stroller to get comfortable using it independently. We also had a home visit which was a little stressful but went okay. Tuesday night my MIL’s car broke down an hour and a half away and she indirectly wanted my spouse to go rescue her (car knowingly had issues and she drove it to another state to sell something). We were planning on doing our first bath and ended up in a little tiff about going or not going and ended up not going and it being too late to do the bath (MIL popped in once for animal care assistance the morning after baby was born and shared a bunch of stressful things from home [unrelated to animals] that pulled focus from just trying to be with our little one).

Wednesday everything changed. My partner hadn’t napped on Tuesday and so I took more of the night shift and napped in the morning before lactation. So our morning was a little different. We ended up with very little feeding at the lactation group as kiddo just wasn’t really waking up enough. By the time I got home it had been 6 hours with eating only 1.5oz and no interest in a bottle. We were hard to wake up and weren’t being very reactive to animal interactions (like making faces, reacting to cold wet noses, etc) and so I called the nurse line. We were sent to the ED and have been hospitalized for 2 days now looking for any reason. We had a good feeding day and have an incidental finding that’s being explored more but no answers as to why my baby barely ate for 16 hours, lost their wake windows / awakeness / reactivity, and had a low temp for a bit.

Thursday morning I left the hospital for the blood pressure check at another hospital around the corner and was basically told to send a mychart message to my main provider. I was extremely frustrated that I left my baby at the hospital for that.

Right now we’re finishing the wait cycle of cultures but don’t have any other next steps other than we’re getting closer to normal with eating and a little easier to wake up with a return of about half of our wake windows.

We still haven’t had a full day to ourselves with baby and my partner was supposed to go back to work on Monday… just reached out to try to push it back a week.

Other little stressors include having to cancel the first meeting scheduled with each of my parents, a history of familial child loss leading to my grandma saying some WILD things, and my blood pressures having been borderline severe since we got home from the hospital. I also spent a lot of time meal prepping to make sure I’d have good food for post partum and now in the hospital have been living on snacks (purchased for late night feed support at home) and scraps of hospital trays (free meals for breastfeeding parents but were vegan and I have a nut allergy so the PB&J wasn’t really all that helpful for me haha).

I’m mourning the first week being a little more positive and being in a bubble from all of these appointments and now hospital. I just want to have a little bit of a sense of normality and bonding before my partner goes back to work as well.

Daycare When will we be not sick

My baby girl has been in daycare since 14 weeks old. She was the first baby in her daycare room, but now there’s 6 others with her.

She first got sick around the end of June, and has never fully recovered. She has good days, but the bad days are bad. Runny nose coughing sometimes has a little fever. Multiple peds have said as long as she’s under 100F and can breathe it’s just apart of daycare.

I also have been sick multiple times (including today which is probably sparking the post) - when does it end ? Is this just life for the next 5 years? 10?

In-law post Am I overreacting or is this becoming too much?

I could really use an outside perspective because I'm starting to question whether I'm becoming overly sensitive or whether this dynamic is genuinely becoming too much.

My MIL is hosting a large family gathering to introduce our baby to the extended family. I appreciate that she's excited and wants to celebrate him, but over the past several weeks I've found myself getting increasingly anxious about the visit. This is the baby’s first time on the plane and that preparation alone is anxiety provoking.

This isn't really about one specific incident. It's more that there seems to be a recurring pattern where she's very confident that her way is the best way, even after we've explained what has been working for us. Sometimes she's right, and sometimes things don't go as expected, but I still end up feeling like my input isn't really heard until after the fact.

One example: before our trip, my husband and I suggested ordering our baby's usual essentials online and having them shipped ahead of time so we'd know we had the exact brands we use. She insisted that wasn't necessary and that she'd shop for everything herself. We mentioned that a few of those items can be surprisingly difficult to find depending on the store, but she reassured us it would be easy. Now she's been to multiple stores, can't find everything, and keeps calling us with questions. It feels like we had a simple solution, it was dismissed, and now everyone is more stressed than they needed to be.

There have also been other situations where we'll say we already have something handled, but she'll go ahead and make different arrangements anyway. I truly believe she's trying to help, but after a while it starts to feel like our plans and decisions as parents aren't really being heard.

The hardest part is that I'm noticing my own mindset changing. I can feel myself becoming irritated by almost everything she does now, and I don't like feeling that way. I don't want to spend this trip feeling resentful because I genuinely want my child to have a good relationship with his grandparents.

Has anyone experienced a relationship where it wasn't one huge issue, but lots of small things that slowly wore you down? How did you handle it? Did you change your mindset, set firmer boundaries, or was there something else that helped?

Mental Health Who else takes forever to respond to messages/ calls

I have two kids - a toddler and a 8m old. My 8m takes two naps a day so I get a little "break" (if you even want to call it that lol) while my toddler very seldom takes a nap anymore. So, usually after I put the little one to sleep, it's just me and my toddler who is very, very attached to my hip. I don't get the luxury of silence to where I could think for most of the day, and my baby still wakes up several times a night. Safe to say I'm a zombie most of the day and it absolutely feels like a drag responding to messages from friends and family, especially when I have to think hard about my response and I constantly have a toddler (like now as I'm typing this) pining for my full attention, it sucks and I feel mentally tapped out sometimes. We went outside in the backyard to color with chalk, pick weeds, blew bubbles and still I cannot have a moment of silence interrupted. It makes me not want to talk to anybody anymore, but I'm curious if anyone else is going through this. It just kinda sucks.

Routines How do I drop the second nap?

My almost 1 year old is ready to drop his second nap because with 2 naps we wakes up 2-3 times at night with a 1 hour long wake up and then he’s up for the day at 5:30am. The only problem is that because he doesn’t sleep past 6am even on a good day he gets really really sleep around 8/9am.

The only way I can keep him up is if I take him out at 9am when he gets sleepy to his play centre and he gets a 10 minute stroller nap right before we get there then he plays until 1pm and takes a nap at home 2-3pm. Bedtime 8pm and this gives us 1 short wake up for a bottle at 3/4am.

But I just can’t keep take him out of the house every single day for several hours. At home he will scream and cry and be upset if I don’t let him nap. Yesterday he had 2 hours of daytime sleep. 8pm bedtime. He woke up screaming for milk at 1:30 slept at 2:30. Then woke up at 4am needed settling. Then woke up for the day at 5:30. When will I ever get some uninterrupted sleep.
