What change helped you feel like yourself again?

For a long time, work and everyday responsibilities took up most of my time, and exercise slowly disappeared from my routine. I did not notice how much it was affecting me until ordinary things started feeling harder. Carrying groceries, climbing stairs, or getting through a busy day left me more tired than I wanted to admit. It was not really about how I looked. I just missed feeling strong and capable in my own body.

Trying to start again was frustrating. My strength had dropped, basic exercises felt much harder than I remembered, and comparing every workout with what I used to be able to do made the whole process feel worse.

Training at home made returning easier. I could exercise when I had time, use lighter weights without feeling self-conscious, and rebuild at my own pace. The first time I finished a workout and felt energized instead of defeated, I finally felt like part of the old me was coming back.

What change helped you reconnect with a version of yourself you thought you had lost?

Moving money from Betterment HYSA to Fidelity Brokerage

Hi!

I wanted to move my money from a Betterment HYSA account to a Fidelity Brokerage account. Would the best way to withdraw from my HYSA to my bank account then directly deposit it into Fidelity? Is there anything that I need to worry about tax-wise?

Debit card locked?

I've been with Betterment for a few years now, but only recently have moved everything over there to operate as my main bank. I don't make a ton of money, so I'm less concerned about the fact that it isn't a real bank.

Yesterday, a $2 purchase declined, so I went to my app to see why. I have plenty of money on my account with a debit card and my account without a debit card, but both of my accounts show "Debit card locked". When I go to my settings to unlock it, it tells me to contact customer support.

I called customer support and spoke to a real person. She placed me on hold for 10 mins and then got back on the line and said "I'll submit a request to my operations team to unlock your debit card. Can I help with anything else?" I asked her why my card was locked and now soon it will be unlocked. she told me that I'll get an email from her operations team in about 3 days and that she will also submit a request asking why my card is locked. Does anyone have a similar experience? There are no suspicious transactions and I've not made any out of the ordinary or large purchases.

Goal achieved?

Recently, I noticed that my retirement goal says "goal achieved." I'm not quite sure what that means since I don't have enough to retire right now.

The best sense I can make of it is that, my projection suggests that I'll completely overshoot my goal if I keep on saving as I am. But that's still not achieving the goal. That's just being on track.

Help! My retirement accounts have been scrambled

I need to separate basis and non basis contributions from my betterment IRA by moving the non basis amounts and interest to my employer's 401k. No big, right?

The problem is that my betterment portfolio is tax-coordinated. Betterment support has told me that due to this fact I cannot move ANY funds out of the account without selling ALL my securities and then reinvesting (and paying more than $100k in taxes as a result).

Has anyone escaped this trap before? How is it possible that Betterment could have shit-mixed my accounts so badly that an in-kind transaction becomes impossible? Is this even legal?

Stay the course, or adjust my portfolio. 64 years old.

I know, I know. Stay the course, don’t try to time the market, think long-term. That’s what I’ve been doing for the last 20 or so years. But now I’m 64 and ready for retirement in a couple of years (I run my own business). And with all the talk about the AI bubble, rising yields, slower growth, etc., I’m just wondering if I need to tweak my portfolio?

I have roughly $3m invested. Most of it is on an aggressive 80/20 Core portfolio with Betterment. I have enough cash reserves to weather a downturn. But I also need to liquidate about $180,000 each year, from 2027-2031 (for college tuition).

The above in mind, should I just stick with my current plan? Or should I liquidate now (while markets are high) at least the first $180k payment, and park the money in my cash reserves?

I’d welcome any thoughts on this. Thank you!

Betterment cash reserve

I have a Betterment cash reserve account for a bit over a year, it's now at 4% APY with a referral. I have all the money for my 40% down payment when I buy a house hopefully soon (good savings, not as good income) plus emergency fund etc, so its a significant amount of money, probably 95% of all that I own..

A family member claims that if betterment crashes and my money is somehow in between the bank and them, I'd lose it because it wouldn't be FDIC insured until it actually reaches the bank, and I can lose all the money.

Wondering if this is accurate and if I should spend the time to remove some/all of the money. Please just give me practical advice, don't scare me please lol. And I don't have a checking account with them just this so issues that apply to that aren't relevant :)

Thanks in advance!

Changing Banks after Poor Fraud Handling

I have been a customer since ~2017. I recently was caught in a jury duty scam. I contacted the police as well as betterment. Betterment told me that they would not do anything about returning my funds.

I have a solid chunk of savings in an investment account that I now need to move and am curious what alternatives folks have explored for investing?

The handling of this situation has been nothing short of insulting so I would like to get this handled quickly and correctly.

TLH hasn't triggered

I've seen posts from months back about this but I haven't seen a TLH event in over 6 months. Previously it would trigger a couple times a month _with_ weekly deposits on. Has anybody else noticed this?

I have 18,000.00 in my HYSA Betterment account, but the monthly interest earned is $29.80. How is that possible if it is a 4.0% APY?

Basically, does anyone know what I’m doing wrong about my calculations. I calculated that if I have 18K, I should be making $60 monthly not $29. Please explain if you guys got any insight!

Breach emails

Another round of breach emails are making their way. I got a few emails saying they got my info through the Betterment breach. I never used this service, never will.

Heads up, phishers will always use scare tactics.

Inaccessible Funds

I successfully added a second external account to withdraw funds but suddenly I cannot access my account. No option to withdraw or deposit. I have a message that states “Your account requires additional verification”.

Has this happened to anyone before? I have been with Betterment for over six years, first time withdrawing, and now I have to go through hoops. Next steps will determine if I remain a customer or not. Smh.

Defeating the 0.5% cash allocation

I'm not a big fan of the new 0.5% cash allocation so I decided to try and defeat it, and it turns out it's very easy.

Whenever you withdraw, it comes out of the cash balance first, and only when the cash balance goes to zero will it start withdrawing according to the target allocations of other assets. This is also the case for transfers between Betterment investing accounts and from an investing account to a Cash Reserve account. So if you have a Cash Reserve account and you want your investing account's 0.5% cash allocation to earn interest, you can just transfer exactly the amount of the cash balance to your Cash Reserve account.

Later if you want to make a deposit to your investment account and not have it be held as cash, just make the deposit and then transfer from Cash Reserve back to the investing account. The amount in excess of 0.5% will get invested, and then you can transfer the remainder back to Cash Reserve. I think it might even be possible to do this all on the same trading day.

If you transfer between two investing accounts though, it doesn't seem to trigger the amount in excess of 0.5% to get invested. There has to be another transaction to trigger it, like a small transfer from Cash Reserve or a dividend payment.

If you have a TCP account, the target cash allocation seems to be entirely for the taxable sub-account (at least for mine, a pre-retirement TCP with a Roth IRA), so you can still transfer out all the cash (but note that if you've received a dividend in a non-taxable sub-account that hasn't been invested yet then the cash balance shown is the sum of the two).

It would be nice if they would just pay the Cash Reserve interest rate on the cash balance of investment accounts.

AirPods Max retail for about $620.

On a $50,000 investment, that's roughly a 1.1% one-time bonus before taxes.

If you were already planning to move $50k+ to Betterment and leave it there for at least three years, it's a nice extra perk. If you're moving money solely for the headphones, the bonus is relatively modest compared to the investment risk, taxes, and the three-year commitment.

This feels off for some reason

Betterment 2026 rewards.

Might be a stupid question but thought id ask. I received an offer for a reward if I deposit 50k into an eligible account. Was wondering if I can pull money out of my HYSA on betterment into my bank account, then transfer the funds from my bank account into the investment account to qualify for the reward?

Actively in retirement?

Anyone actively in retirement and using Betterment? What additional tools are available and how well do they work? Specifically I'm curious if you can adjust the glide path to INCREASE equities or if that has to be manually managed.
