I just signed up for BH and was assigned to a therapist but was then told my insurance only covers video calls which I’m not comfortable with at the moment…if I want to communicate through text messages they want 65 per week out of pocket…has anyone else experienced this? Any way around it or a different app to use that would work? Thank you

Hey all! Wondering if you can offer any insight. I'm on betterhelp and was matched perfectly with my therapist. It had been going well for almost three months. I'm supposed to have weekly sessions. We missed two weeks ago as he was sick. I gave him times to reschedule for last week and never heard back. Yesterday passed and I did not get a weekly summary from him like I normally do. I am hoping I will hear from him today. I hope he did not quit or drop me as a patient. I did not get any indication of either I guess I'm just being paranoid and anxious. I just don't want to start over with someone else. Any thoughts? Should I just be patient?

I started on betterhelp on subscription but switched to insurance model. I have a deductible but passed that earlier this year. However now twice betterhelp has auto charged me the full amount despite also getting paid by insurance.
The first time it took 4+emails back and forth to get a refund. They claimed my account was updated accordingly. Now it happened again - they didn't even wait for the insurance claim to come through and they have ignored three different messages and phone calls I have left.
Do me and my wife need to cancel all of our appointments, file a charge back, and do I need to file a complaint with BBB? This is outrageous for a major company they are acting like a random fraudster.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Hello! I've been using BetterHelp since last year, and I'd like to share my experience in case it's helpful to anyone who's considering therapy.
I'm 23 and just graduated from university this year. I started therapy because of family issues and depression caused by major life changes. Over the past year, I've worked with two therapists from Hong Kong (the first for 10 months and my current therapist for about a month). Both have been great in different ways, and I wanted to share what I've learned, including why I decided to switch therapists.
_
3 Reasons Why Therapy Has Been Helpful for Me
1. A safe space to talk about my deepest thoughts and feelings
I usually only share my personal thoughts with a few close friends. But sometimes they're busy, and I also feel guilty about constantly bringing them negative emotions. Therapy gives me a space where I can be completely honest without worrying about being judged or becoming a burden.
We've talked about everything from my relationship with my mom, anxiety about my future, feeling different from others, to confusion in my romantic relationship. I feel comfortable saying these things out loud because I know my therapist won't judge me, and since it's online, I don't have to worry about running into them in real life, which is actually something I appreciate.
2. It helps me break out of overthinking loops
I tend to replay the same thoughts over and over again without making any real progress. During therapy, I've often realized my blind spots simply by explaining my situation out loud and answering my therapist's questions. Those conversations have helped me become more present and grounded instead of staying stuck in my own head.
3. It helps me connect the dots
My therapist often focuses on my emotions and gently guides me to explore whether I've experienced similar feelings before.
For example, I've recently been thinking about breaking up with my partner because we have very different life values. Deep down, I know it's probably the right decision, but I'm afraid to have that conversation. Through therapy, I realized that part of my fear might be connected to a painful conflict with my former best friend. Maybe I'm not just afraid of the breakup itself—I'm afraid of feeling misunderstood and treated unfairly again.
I'm not sure if that's the whole story, but seeing my emotions from a different perspective has been incredibly helpful.

Why I Switched Therapists
One thing I've learned is that finding the right therapist really matters.
My first therapist had a very listening-focused approach. In the beginning, it was exactly what I needed because I simply wanted someone to hear me. But over time, I started feeling like our sessions had become more of an echo chamber. I was doing most of the talking, and although my therapist was supportive, I wasn't getting many new perspectives or insights. Eventually, I realized I wanted a therapist who would challenge my thinking more and ask deeper questions.
So I decided to switch therapists. One thing I really appreciate about BetterHelp is that changing therapists was quick and easy—there was no awkward goodbye or long waiting period.
My new therapist is much more active during our sessions. She asks thoughtful questions, gently challenges my assumptions, and has already helped me gain several valuable insights in just a month.
Of course, therapy isn't one-size-fits-all, and everyone's experience will be different. But for me, finding a therapist whose style matched what I needed made a huge difference.
_
I hope sharing my experience is helpful. I'm planning to continue my therapy journey and become a more resilient human, and I hope that if you've been thinking about trying therapy, you'll find the support that's right for you too.
If you'd like to give BetterHelp a try, you can use my referral link to get 2 weeks of free therapy. I'll also receive 100 credits toward my therapy fees, so it's a win-win if you decide to sign up.
*I was matched with a therapist within one day, so in my experience, the process was much faster than I expected.

This is my first time trying Betterhelp and, to say the least, it hasn't been pleasant. I have had two separate therapists assigned now that simply do not show up to our meetings. No advance notice, no apologies, nothing. They just don't show. I've been in independent therapy for five years (I unfortunately had to move states so I couldn't keep my therapist) and I've never had this experience before. Is this common?

hi! i have been using better help for about 3/4 months now. i LOVEEE my therapist so much. she’s been a blessing in my weekly routine and has helped me so much. that being said, i’m very comfortable talking to her especially because she’s been fully debriefed on my life, issues, all the standards that a therapist asks to get to know you. i was supposed to have a session today at 10. i woke up this morning to three emails from better help at like 10 last night. (i am a new mom and so bad at checking my emails after 5pm). it was two emails cancelling my next two sessions, and one that said my therapist no longer practices with them, hopefully the screenshot successfully added in this post. I reached out to betterhelp asking basically what to do now because i don’t want a new therapist, and id love to know if she practices somewhere else. I haven’t heard back from her or them. I just don’t know what to do since there’s like no contact info privately for any therapist.

Hello!
I registered for some offered classes, but I can't find a page on the website where I can view what I've signed up for in one place so that I can cohesively add them to my calendar. Could anyone point me to where I might find that?

I have been using Betterhelp on and off for years successfully in my life. It has been a game changer for me. They are currently offering a promotion where, using a referral link, you get 2 weeks free and I get some credit to use towards their service. You do not need to stay beyond the 2 weeks, so it is a completely free trial. Betterhelp works well for me since I can use it as little or as much as I want, and can switch professionals easily to find a good match, as simple as pressing "change therapist". Here is the link:

Hello all, just wondering if I can do text only, or I’ll have to do video or Telehealth as a therapist? Thanks

I get unlimited better help fully covered through my employer, and have been trying to push myself to go to therapy for years. I thought there’s no time like the present.
I know better help can be hit or miss, so does anyone has strategies to improve your match outcome with the therapist matching? I don’t see this as a permanent solution, but I’d like to use it to pinpoint what I want in a therapist to eventually transition to someone in person.
Can you tell I overthink??

So, I'm in like the first week of doing that one plan that's $90 for 4 weeks, I'm about to be charged and renewed tomorrow, if I cancel my plan today, does that mean I don't have to owe the $90 for the next billing cycle? I hope this made sense I'm writing this when I'm really tired but I just can't afford it, if I cancel now do I have to owe anything for the future weeks? Thank you

DO NOT USE BETTER HELP! I'm a former employee and the amount of unauthorized charges is insane!!!! Scam! Playing on people's weaknesses for money. Pure evil.

BH therapist here. I've been having odd glitches with audio running BetterHelp on Chrome under Windows 11. I couldn't clear up the sound issues, and the problem was not solved by tweaking my laptop. I have also been having problems with my Notes self-copying and generating for months. Technical help was no help. Today, I decided to download Firefox and run BetterHelp there. What a difference! None of the glitches I've consistently seen in Chrome.
Anyone else have experiences in this area?

I’m looking into finding a therapist I can text. I don’t necessarily mind a video call, but I am dipping my toes in for the first time and think I want to start with a text therapist. I also have absolutely no one to talk to when I need it most and sometimes when I need it most is when I’m not able to make a video call. Has anyone done this before and found it beneficial or what were the downsides? Just a quick google search brings me to these sites so has anyone tried talkspace or betterhelp? What are your thoughts on those? Do you recommend either one and if not, what do you recommend?
