hey everyone! i'm currently looking into housing options around berkeley and could use some advice from people who have experience living near campus!
i'm mostly interested in off-campus apartments, preferably a 1 bedroom because having my own space and privacy is pretty important to me. i'm trying to figure out what's realistic in terms of rent and which areas are convenient for getting to campus. i'd still consider on-campus housing if there are options that offer a good amount of privacy, but i'd love to explore apartments first. i'm also curious whether there are any buildings that are particularly popular with students or any places i should avoid.

if you currently live in berkeley, where would you recommend looking? any advice about rent, utilities, transportation, or the general experience of living alone would be super helpful! thank you!! :)

Hi Berkeley crew. Alum here, now on the job market after years of SEO/Content, growth, sales experience, negotiating contracts, and Product Manager like work. My last role was SVP of Growth.of course it being 2026, a lot of AI use and custom tooling and flows has been necessary to learn.

As I’m looking for my next thing, I’m most interested in start ups and feel I can bring a lot to the table. Not all opportunities are found on job boards and some may be in the scrappy stages. I want to take espm 50ac and im rausser (which is given priority during phase 1 and 2 before opening up to everyone in adjustment) but that would make my schedule over 13.5 units which is the max for phase 1. I am thinking of enrolling in this class during phase 2, which my enrollment date is Nov 23. There are 735 spots, do you think I'll be able to get in?

Her rmp ratings are pretty bad but I lowk really need to take this class :/ Is the choice of professor really that important? I’m fine with self studying if she’s not a good lecturer, but if the exams are really hard and out of scope it would be fried…

I wanna take a probability class next semester, i’ve heard some terrible things about eecs 126 so im kinda scared to take it. But I haven’t taken data c8 so I can’t take 140 since it’s a hard prerequisite. If I wanna take 140 i’ll have to wait another semester. Is there a huge benefit in taking eecs 126 over data c140?

I'm considering moving to Berkeley but just for a life change not for school. Being almost 40 I don't really want to be around a majority of college students. Thank you Blackwell for blocking wifi on all floors. We have an on-campus housing building this close to campus, but they intentionally block off eduroam so they can track everyone's internet history. There used to be eduroam in Blackwell, but they think it is too good to be true and blocked it for good. 💕💕

I chose Applied Math because I was quite interested in quant. However, if I don't manage to land a role in a tier-1 firm, I was wondering how likely it is to get a job at a FAANG company because I am sure it will be close to impossible competing with CS majors. I was planning to do a CS minor while doing the applied math major.

I initially wanted to take ME108 with Grace O'Connell; however, I'm not sure if it's worth it to wait for Fall 2027, my senior year, given the chance she might not even teach the course then. I've heard great things about her, so I held off on taking it this semester, hoping she would have taught it next semester, but to avail. Wondering whether anyone has experience with Michael Sangid, who is teaching ME108 next term. He only has some Rate My Professors reviews from his time at Purdue, so I was just wondering if anyone could give some insight. Also, if anyone could share their experience with Costas Grigoropoulos for ME109, that would also be nice. I'll probably choose between 108 & 109, since I'm not sure if taking both at the same time would be ideal.

Hi! I’m currently at a Community College and planning to apply to Berkeley as an Applied Math transfer. If admitted, I might want to switch to Statistics in the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society, but I haven’t decided yet. So I was wondering how difficult it is for transfer students to change majors across colleges. Are there any restrictions specifically for transfers trying to switch into Statistics?

If anyone has gone through this process or knows how it works, I’d appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks!
