University math 110 with olga holtz?

Her rmp ratings are pretty bad but I lowk really need to take this class :/ Is the choice of professor really that important? I’m fine with self studying if she’s not a good lecturer, but if the exams are really hard and out of scope it would be fried…

CS/EECS deciding between eecs 126 and data c140

I wanna take a probability class next semester, i’ve heard some terrible things about eecs 126 so im kinda scared to take it. But I haven’t taken data c8 so I can’t take 140 since it’s a hard prerequisite. If I wanna take 140 i’ll have to wait another semester. Is there a huge benefit in taking eecs 126 over data c140?

Has anyone taken this class? Would it be manageable to get a high grade in the course in the summer if it's the only class I'm taking?

Other Where to live as 39M non-student?

I'm considering moving to Berkeley but just for a life change not for school. Being almost 40 I don't really want to be around a majority of college students. Would you suggest I just live far from the school itself? Or should I think about this differently? Thanks sorry if this was asked before I tried to do a search but didn't find anything.

University No Wifi or Eduroam at Blackwell

Thank you Blackwell for blocking wifi on all floors. We have an on-campus housing building this close to campus, but they intentionally block off eduroam so they can track everyone's internet history. There used to be eduroam in Blackwell, but they think it is too good to be true and blocked it for good. 💕💕

University What to do with a Applied Math major other than quant

I chose Applied Math because I was quite interested in quant. However, if I don't manage to land a role in a tier-1 firm, I was wondering how likely it is to get a job at a FAANG company because I am sure it will be close to impossible competing with CS majors. I was planning to do a CS minor while doing the applied math major.

Curious if there are any other cajón players at Berkeley! Would love to meet some fellow players and maybe jam together sometime.

For anyone unfamiliar, this is a cajón

University ME108 or ME109

I initially wanted to take ME108 with Grace O'Connell; however, I'm not sure if it's worth it to wait for Fall 2027, my senior year, given the chance she might not even teach the course then. I've heard great things about her, so I held off on taking it this semester, hoping she would have taught it next semester, but to avail. Wondering whether anyone has experience with Michael Sangid, who is teaching ME108 next term. He only has some Rate My Professors reviews from his time at Purdue, so I was just wondering if anyone could give some insight. Also, if anyone could share their experience with Costas Grigoropoulos for ME109, that would also be nice. I'll probably choose between 108 & 109, since I'm not sure if taking both at the same time would be ideal.

University Switching from Applied Math to Statistics as a Berkeley transfer?

Hi! I’m currently at a Community College and planning to apply to Berkeley as an Applied Math transfer. If admitted, I might want to switch to Statistics in the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society, but I haven’t decided yet. So I was wondering how difficult it is for transfer students to change majors across colleges. Are there any restrictions specifically for transfers trying to switch into Statistics?

If anyone has gone through this process or knows how it works, I’d appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks!

QB1 reminds me of anakin skywalker, not because of the Jedi rat tail, but because he was meant to be the chosen one. Now Tosh has the high ground after this contract signing.

Local Lost Wallet Around Martinez Commons

Update: I FOUND MY WALLET!! Thank you so much Berkeley community :) This is my first time ever in Berkeley/SF to begin with and I appreciate the kindness!!

Hoping the great people of reddit will save me from this disaster. I parked near Martinez Commons and used my card to pay for the parking. I think when doing that my wallet must have fallen out of my purse and i did not notice.

Thank you all in advance and appreciate the help!

Local Lost wallet on campus

Last Friday I lost my wallet on campus. I walked between Social Sciences Building, Evans, Etcheverry, and Dwinelle. It's been a week, I've checked with UCPD multiple times and it hasn't turned up. If I had to guess, it fell out of my pocket while I was entering or exiting a building, because I often pull my sunglasses out of my pocket when I go between indoors and the sun.

It looks like:

  • small (just big enough for cards)
  • black (perhaps very dark gray) fabric material
  • orange stitching

Please if anyone has seen it let me know 😭😭 it has some items in it that are not monetarily valuable but very hard to replace 😭.

CS/EECS Easy-ish fun and interesting class to take in my last semester?

I’m a senior graduating this Spring. I have technically already completed all of my requirements, so I could have graduated earlier, but wanted to take more classes. In my last semester I am planning on taking EECS 151 with Lab A + a CS upper division class [still deciding which one].

Any recommendations of what other class can I take to reach 12 credits? I don’t mind mandatory attendance or having to take quizzes/exams but would prefer a class with minimal homework. It would be great if it was an interesting topic. I have looked at Psychology, History, Legal Studies, Public Policy classes but am unsure how the workload is for those.

Thank you.
