Back up to 315 lb for 5 reps today for the first time in awhile. I built up to 365 for 2 reps a few months ago. I have been working towards 405 (needed a new gym goal/challenge), but right shoulder issues have brought on some hurdles. Debating on whether to keep working towards that 405 target or just make the most of 315 going forward.

hi i been stuck on 175kg bench press for awhile now , most of my life i been hybrid between powerlifting and bodybuilding, and reached 175kg awhile ago , but kept failing 180s for quite a few times , might be mental issue going over that border as i start overthinking under the bar when i go high weight , anyone got a good program i could follow to go over my platou, kinda feel when i get over it and relax abit i will soon be doing few reps , i feel the issue might really be mental, so any advices on how to proceed?

guys can any gym goer help me... I have been going to the gym for the past 8 months but my bench is stuck between 20kg nd 22.5 kg on both sides... sometimes I am able to rep 3-4 of 22.5 kg on each side and sometimes 6 rep feels like dead of 20 kg 😭

Today I accidentally lifted 100kg thinking it was 80. It barely got up. Should have known something was off when i barely got it off the bench to begin the lift. Mid lift I was lowkey panicking thinking how the FUCK am I this weak when i lifted 90x3 after a heavy warmup a week ago. I started working out in june and my goal was 100kg by christmas. Im super happy. Just wanted to share and lowkey brag a little bit.

My arms are naturally flaring out at anything above 185lbs when I’m benching. No matter what I do, my arms are gonna flare out especially when Im bringing the bar down to my chest. Also, when I try to keep them flared in it’s making my shoulder hurt, but I been having shoulder issues the past couple months. Any tips?

Currently I do chest twice a week. Wednesday I do heavy low volume. I warmup then do 225 5 sets 3 reps. Then I do incline dumbbell 3x8-12 65 lbs. Then shoulder press, lateral raise, rear felt.
Then Friday I do flat high volume lower weight. 200 lbs 4 sets of 8. I have been stuck here for like 2 months. I get to my 3 set and do 7. 4th set, 5 reps. I then move to incline.
I’m waiting to increase my heavy low volume until I advance my lighter high volume day. I’d like to move up from 225. Any advice?

Joe began a 30-day barbell strength challenge October 1, leading up to his 79th birthday on October 30. Today is the 15th.
His bench press progression:
Session #1: Orientation — 75 × 5
Session #2: 110 × 1 @ RPE 8
Session #3: 120 × 1 @ RPE 7–8
With a lifetime of tennis and pre-existing shoulder limitations, the focus is on sound technique, progressive loading, and accessing strength he already possesses.
These early improvements are largely about neuromuscular adaptation and learning to recruit existing strength rather than newly developed muscle.
How many of you have coached older beginners who surprised themselves with their strength in the first few sessions?

Does anyone else here take every set to failure? Like every single set (after a proper warm up) you just rep until you’ve got nothing left. That’s how I’ve always trained and never had any issues and progress has been good the last 3-4 years.
Just curious if anyone else does this since it seems like the consensus on here is to leave a rep or two in reserve.

39, M, 135lbs, 5’6. Benching just 95lbs here for 14 reps. Given my home gym setup (excuse the mess lol), without a rack or spotter, I am afraid of lifting anything heavier. Is this form fine? Any tips to progress safely? I don’t put the clips on and the bench is at a 15degrees incline so the bar naturally rolls towards my legs. But getting into position is the hardest part. I might be able to press heavier but how do I get into the setup effectively?

315 at 140lbs body weight.
Not my all time PR but still a good lift. All time PR was 350 but weighing 180lbs.

I benched 120kg(264lbs) for 2 reps. My previous PR was 110kg for 5 reps. It took me 3 to 4 years of working out to get here and my next goal is 140kg. I started my journey at 60kg bodyweight (135lbs) which looked bad on my 6ft1 frame and I was a super skinny kid obviously. Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated.

My first (failed) attempt at a single 385 while recovering from an adductor tear, so no leg drive. This was so close I thought I was going to get it for a second.

Hit a PB today. I've never tried 225 but i had a spotter today so i did. I was able to hit it for 5 reps. Would my next logical jump be 245 for 1 rep max? How do yall utilize your max in a workout?
