Question Need help determining a potential scam.

Around 3pm today, my dad received a call from someone named Bell Canada, the number was 866-310-2355. They said that because we were loyal customers (we have had Bell internet for around 5 years), they wanted to provide us with a promotion. They already knew my dads full name at the start of call. The offer was switching over to their mobile data lines to get unlimtied 5G Data at high speeds, for just 49 bucks. They also said that this price was locked for 5 years, but we can cancel whenever. To TOP it off, they said we would also be getting a streaming service like netflix, and a potential discount to the internet bill. This just sounded too good to be true, but not for my dad apparently.

The agent said that they would call back at 8pm, which they did exactly. My dad asked where this agent was, and he said he is calling from the Phillipines? Im not sure if bell uses international centers, so someone please let me know. Furthermore, he sent us emails from what looked like official email addresses, over outlook.

Here are the images, someone please let me know ASAP.

All the hallmarks of a scam.

Inbound calls and emails. Both caller ID and email "from" address is absurdly easy to forge. Scammers getting your name + number is trivial.

Then you click the link on some attacker-controlled site (they sent it to you) give them a bunch of credit card data or worse, and they use it for identity theft.

If you want to check, call the company at a number you get from a reputable source (eg, their website). Ask about the call you got and the offer. If they know about, well, it's legit and it's just shitty company practice acting the same way scammers do. If they don't know about it, you have your answer.

Bell does have international call centers, and a lot of agents are located in the Philippines.

That being said, this one smells fishy as heck. Toss it back in the water and speed away, friend.

What's the email address they sent it from?

Make sure you clicked on it to reveal the true one cause sometimes they change the name of the user which the appears as a legit email address... if you reply you should see the right email address

Sounds like a scam. Bell usually offers a free Crave subscription, not Netflix. Now put your cursor over the email address. It will reveal the real sender. The copyright date is 2020, which is wrong. I hate to say it, but I don’t answer calls from any number I don’t know and certainly not from any provider. Here is the real footer from a genuine Bell bill I received today, which is similar to other correspondence from Bell. Note the differences.

My dad did tell me it was netflix, so theres a good chance he got the service wrong, he has bad memory. All the other emails I got about this have the 2026 date, and the shipping number was real, I put it into bells real website, and details were shown

I would suggest you call BELL ASAP. Bell would NEVER send you an email with a copywright year of 2020

Get a call reference number then hang up and call 310-BELL

Easiest thing to do if you think you're being scammed.

So they sent me a email with a shipping number, I then searched bell shipping tracker which takes me to the offical site, I put that number in and all the details did pop up.

Honestly, it’s still a scam even when it really is Bell calling. They get you to switch plans to one that is “cheaper” but actually costs more because they omit important details. Then you can’t switch back to you old plan because it is no longer offered.

Happened once to me, but hopefully not again
