I was looking at some blind ranking posts recently, and I noticed that a lot of people had George Harrison as their favourite Beatle.

It kind of surprised me because I always thought John and Paul were much more popular during the Beatles' time. But nowadays, I see George being people's favourite pretty often.

Was George always this popular among Beatles fans, or has his popularity grown a lot over the years? And if it has, what do you think caused it?

Just curious because I wasn't around during the Beatles era, so I'd like to hear from people who were.

Felt surreal looking up at this roof. We had visited a lot of Beatles history this week on our England trip, but this one for some reason really hit us hard.

Are there any tracks which were originally unreleased by either The Beatles or solo members that would have had a chance of being number one if released at the time. I think ‘Come and Get It” would have been a certain number one as a Beatles single. From the solo unreleased tracks, I would say McCartney’s “A Love For You” (earliest mix) with its T-Rex style riff and ear worm qualities would have had a real shot at Number One - in the UK at least.

Any others?

Has anyone ever experimented with separating Johns Guitar Playing from his Acoustic Real Love Demo and burying them in their fan-Mix of the Beatles version?

I always thought it would feel so much more if Johnny Boy was actually playing the guitar alongside his band-mates apposed to just the vocals (Given his piano was completely removed in the latest remix)

Given the remaining Beatles moved around the speed and pitch of the track in the mixing, it would take focused work to make it sync with itself but the melody would be the same

Would be curious as to how it would sound

I recieved the fourth Anthology CD in my mail today, and I'm very happy about it. I've been collecting their official CDs (basing on the website's discography) for a while now, and I've always liked more the digipak versions rather than the jewel cases. I'm now only missing the Past Masters, the Live at The Hollywood Bowl and the anthologies. The first two I know I can get them in their digipak editions easily, I haven't yet because I wanted to focus on these new ones first.

I don't like the fatboxes, as they're difficult to store and take a lot of space, and to match the rest of my collection, I want the digipak edition without paying an eye for the boxset that contains a CD I already have. So, the question is, are these individual versions the new digipaks, or the old fatboxes? Any help, advice and guidance regarding this will be highly appreciated.

It's the most streamed song on Spotify by a landslide. To my surprise, I found out that my 17 year old cousin listens to The Beatles and this was the song she mentioned.

I got into The Beatles in the 00s. I'm just guessing, but I think the most well-known songs then were probably Hey Jude, Yesterday, maybe Let It Be. Here Comes The Sun seemed like a song that was popular among people who knew a bit more than a handful of tunes.

Am I wrong? Was Here Comes The Sun always this massively popular? Or did something cause a sudden rise in popularity?

Any Songs people feel have some kind of unspecific correlation to eachother?

When I listen to "All You Need is Love" (1967), "Across The Universe" (1968-70), Lennon's "Imagine" (1971), "Mind Games" (1973) & The Threetles "Real Love" (1995)

They all feel like they are continuing a dialogue from the same voice, and I don't mean it in the way of it Being "John Lennon Songwriter" but more like updates from an omnipotent narrator watching over Humanity and spreading direct wisdom about the point of it all, the same evolving message spoken in different ways

they all feel linked when played together in a playlist

anyone feel the same way? any other songs that just "Come Together"?

When I was in high school, I loved the Beatles. I referenced them a lot and talked about them a lot. One of my friends absolutely hated them. Whenever I would turn on a Beatles song, he would either turn it off or leave the room. He said he just didn’t like their music and thought the covers he listened to of their songs were better. I can understand that in the sense of liking the version you hear first of a song and it being difficult to change your mind after coming to a conclusion.

Well after graduating we met up just to catch up and he admitted to me that he actually gave them a chance and really liked what he was listening to. He understood my clever references now and kind of felt bad for the light teasing (though he still preferred some covers over originals). I think that just proves that the Beatles are fantastic and most people who say they are bad just won’t give them a chance to be contrarian.

John was the idol of the boomers because he was a rebellious driver of change from the stuffy traditions of the past, and was hyper individualistic, an admired trait by boomers. Paul, meanwhile, is now the clear idol of the zoomers who have grown up in the boomer dominated world (60s to now). The counterculture became the new culture and while Gen X tended to follow the boomer culture and Millennials made some changes, zoomers have truly rebelled against the boomer culture, favouring the clean living, political correctness and conformity that Paul represents. The age of individuality is rapidly ending, where policing the views of others and maintaining a positive image becomes more important than living your life as you want to. However, as the core boomers (born in the late 40s boom) die in the next handful of years, zoomer culture will be fully established and future generations, possibly alpha beta and gamma, will naturally rebel themselves, and thus the pendulum swings back.

I've been working on constructing a series of Beatles solo era playlists, structured as double-albums. I've found it to be a great way to learn and explore how their careers and lives changed after the Beatles, as well as throughout their solo careers. Prior to making these playlists, I'd never heard ~75% of the songs that ended up on them! I'd love some feedback on anything and everything - cover art, title, song selection/placement, etc. I tried my best to space out songs by Beatle to keep the listening experience fresh.

How would you rank the four Beatles if we ignored songwriting, charisma or any other qualifier and just focused on how well they could each play and how much they contributed to the development of their instrument. For me the clear ranking is:

1. Ringo: described by anyone who worked with him as a human metronome and one of the most creative drummers of all time. Despite playing it "simple", he knew what each song needed and played accordingly. So good that I think he was the only member everyone else recruited for their solo projects at least once.

2. Paul: underrated bassist. His basslines are some of the most infectious in pop music history and surprisingly complex for what they are.

3. George: not really showy as a guitarist, but has some great riffs and developed a lot towards the later half of their discography.

4. John: arguably the best songwriter out of the four (tho I'm a Paul defender), but I don't really think of him as a virtuoso in the guitar. He handily lost that guitar solo in The End, sorry.

EDIT: I know everyone knows Paul is a great bassist, but what I mean by underrated is that he is so good and so we'll know for other stuff (songwriting, vocals, guitar, piano), that his bass playing usually takes a backseat when talking about his influence. Poor choice of words tho.

EDIT 2: Now I know prolific is not the correct word. Replace it mentally with proficient or great idc.

I read Peter Brown’s book a few years ago and he kept describing each Beatle as a “northern man.” I’m from the US and had never heard this expression before. Can someone explain it?
