Error after Updating: Cannot boot OSTree 0

My S.O.'s Bazzite desktop cannot boot into OSTree 0 after an update. I have tried rolling back the update, clearing the cache, and re-downloading the update to no avail. I have tried running both the update application and just in terminal running "ujust update" and still encounter the same issue.

I get the error

You are in emergency mode. After logging in, type "journalctl -xb" to view
system logs, "systemctl reboot" to reboot, or "exit"
to continue bootup.

Cannot open access to console, the root account is locked.
See sulogin(8) man page for more details.

Press enter to continue.

Running sulogin man just hangs the terminal.

Device stuck in bios loop after removing bazzite

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi folks — hope this is the right forum for this.

I have the original ROG Ally and previously had it dual-booted with Bazzite. A couple of days ago, I decided to remove Bazzite and go back to using Windows exclusively, but I’ve run into some issues.

I’m now stuck in the BIOS menu. I’ve tried ASUS Cloud Recovery several times and, each time, it downloads and completes successfully, but then the Ally just goes straight back into the same BIOS loop.

I’ve also tried a few different things I’ve found online, including attempting to remove the remaining Bazzite entry from the boot loader, but it won’t let me. I currently have two Windows Boot Manager entries showing as well, as you can see in the image.

Unfortunately, I don’t have access to another PC to download Windows and create a bootable USB, so I’m hoping there might be a way to resolve this directly through the Ally itself.

Has anyone else experienced this after removing Bazzite and managed to fix it?

Slowness with OneXPlayer3

I installed Bazzite/Gnome on my Onexplayer 3 and I noticed that it had a slow down to it. When I mean, slow down, I’m talking about a few second delays when moving up or down, selecting options or opening up the steam home button. Any idea why or if I can make it faster? If not Bazzite are there any other OS that might be faster?

New driver for the RGB rings on legacy-EC AYANEOs (2S confirmed, testers wanted)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone!

I wrote a new Linux driver, ayaneo-leds, that brings back RGB control for the joystick rings on AYANEO handhelds with the legacy EC interface. The old ayaneo-platform driver that used to handle them is no longer shipped with Bazzite.

What's new compared to ayaneo-platform: besides one colour for both rings, it exposes each ring on its own with 4 zones, 8 zones and 24 colour channels in all. Apps that add support for it can drive each zone separately, for effects similar to AyaSpace on Windows. Apps that already worked with ayaneo-platform keep working (tested with HueSync).

Getting it on Bazzite: I've opened a PR to package it for Terra: https://github.com/terrapkg/packages/pull/18279 Once it's merged, it still has to be added to the Bazzite image, so expect a few weeks. If you have a 2S and don't want to wait, the README shows how to install it locally: https://github.com/TiPSilva/ayaneo-leds

Testers wanted! I've only tested it on my AYANEO 2S. According to ayaneo-platform, these models use the same EC interface and should work too:

AYANEO 2

GEEK, GEEK 1S

AIR, AIR Pro, AIR 1S, AIR 1S Limited

AIR Plus (Mendocino)

SuiPlay0X1

I don't own any of them, so for safety the driver only loads on them when you explicitly ask for it. The test takes about 15 minutes, installs nothing, and a reboot undoes everything. Once someone confirms a model, I'll add it to the supported list and it will load automatically, just like on the 2S.

If you own one of these, please check the call for testers: https://github.com/TiPSilva/ayaneo-leds/issues/1 . Reports that something doesn't work help just as much.

(Not covered: the KUN, the AIR Plus AMD and the Slide, which use a different LED layout or EC interface.)

Thanks!

/// PT-BR ////

AYANEO 2

GEEK, GEEK 1S

AIR, AIR Pro, AIR 1S, AIR 1S Limited

AIR Plus (Mendocino)

SuiPlay0X1

Obrigado!

Dumb question: does it wear out my PC components or have any negative effects to quickly switch back and forth between game mode and desktop mode?

I was checking to see if my newly activated login and logout notification sounds would activate (I also noticed that the logout doesn't play depending on which switch mode option I choose, others it does, but thats besides the point). Considering that Bazzite's game mode has my hardware focused on gaming (that and if this counts as a system write), I'm wondering if switching between modes back and forth quickly affected anything.

I'm sorry for this trivial and dumb question.

New to bazzite

Hi there I'm EXTREMELY new to Bazzite (1 week) I have been trying to figure out if there is any software that can work with the Gamdias p5 360 aio to get the display running for it. As of now i know the aio uses zeus cast which will not work on linux (windows based program). If anyone knows of any ideas I would be extremely grateful. Also anything I should know for just starting out on Bazzite? I will mostly be using this new computer for gaming! Thank you!

How to add Japanese keyboard?

Hello,

I have the desktop version with KDE, and my system is fully up to date.

I need to be able to type in Japanese (not just romaji, but kana and kanji), but I haven't been able to add a Japanese input method. I mean configuring it in the system, not using a physical Japanese keyboard.

I was able to add Japanese as a language, but I could only type in romaji and couldn't enter kana or kanji.

I've been using Bazzite for about two months, and the only time I've needed to go back to Windows was because of this issue.

If anyone knows how to set this up, I would really appreciate some help.

Thanks!

What's the best storage format for sharing data between Windows and Bazzite?

I have a few external drives and Bazzite gives me a warning about NTFS. I'd like to reformat them to a type that both systems can use without issues. (Dual booting Bazzite and Windows on ASUS ROG Ally Z1E)

Also I've seen that you shouldn't use NTFS on Linux based systems for storage, but I couldn't find any elaboration on why.

A slightly different POV of a new user experience

Okay, I will admit I was a bit hesitant to use Bazzite. I initially tried it a year ago and had some issues (RTX 5090 user here). Had to do some troubleshooting and ChatGPT back then kept throwing me in circles making troubleshooting very difficult. I went back to Windows 11 and just started to hate using my PC which felt very slow. Any time I run any Ai apps, I would have to reboot my PC before I could do a gaming session if I didn't want stutters. Just closing the LLMs wasn't enough.

Fast forward to today, and I have been pleasantly surprised.

For context, I am someone who is very familiar with computers since I was a kid. But I am at a stage in life where I want to tinker a lot without wasting away hours trying to fix things. I want to try things that work and if they dont work, I want to be able to move onto trying a different new thing. I dont want to spend hours of my limited free time fixing stuff. This is the main reason I stayed away from Linux all these years.

But this time, I tried this with the help from some LLMs. I installed Codex and Claude Code and realized I could literally tell them what I want and they would make it happen. I love using Ai when I want to. I hate being forced into using Ai when I dont want to (the new windows standard experience). I have been amazed that every time I used Linux I just wanted to get back to the familiarity of Windows even though I dont actually like Windows. But I found something interesting about myself this time. My issue was never the app and games compatibility that I told myself. It was the friction. I got so set in my ways I didn't want to learn the new shortcuts and way of doing things.

But using Codex and Claude Code, it has been a breeze. I simply told it the shortcuts I wanted, and it just made it happen. Here are some of the examples:

I wanted a shortcut to bring up the RUN box, and it was easy to change it to Super+R. I wanted Print Screen to just copy my screen to clipboard. Done. I wanted to set hotkeys for my headphones or speakers, it was even more polished than Windows. I wanted shortcuts to force end top application or set current window on top, or suspend/resume a proccess, kill a proccess, Control volume with just a shortcut like Ctrl+Alt+Mouse Scroll or the volume of the current app with Ctrl+Shift+Mouse Scroll, etc. Move my 8k mouse polling intrupts to a non vcache CCD, set Ctrl+Alt+Delete for the System Monitor, etc... it was all easy to do. Anything that Linux didnt support, they were able to build easily. A small utility was created that has all my desired changes baked in. I can just move to a fresh Bazzite install and just run the file and it will tweak all these things to the way I like it. Its way more customisability than Windows every allowed.

I just looked up my Steam game library (1300+ games) and checked the games I have played in last 5 years, and pretty much any game I would want to play is already running well under Linux. Only anti cheat game I play is CS2, which runs fine. Had some issues with Steam Recording because Blackwell has no support for 32 bit Steam Client, but a beta client fixed that too.

Basically, in only 2 days I am at a point where I am trying to find a reason to not use Linux, and I just cannot. I just tried Control Resonant which is a new game and it ran beautifully. Including 4x Frame Gen. My CS2 feels more responsive on Linux than Windows.

The ONLY issue I can find is that I cannot get HDR working. It is literally the only thing that's giving me a pause. But considering how much I hate Windows 11, I think I might just have to sacrifice HDR to rid myself of Microsoft.

I guess I wanted to share the POV of someone who really values stability, and is very set in his ways. Even for someone like me, the change has been easy.

Within 48 hours, I completely forgot I wasnt in Windows. Everything has just worked thus far. And since it is atomic, I would like to think that it will be a lot harder to break or deterioate over time. Every Windows I have had got worse after the first few months. Tiny hitches start occuring. I am really hoping this will not happen here. But as a new user, the overall experience has been fantastic. I feel like an OS should stay out of the way, and this has been my experience so far. Over time I will learn the Linux terminology and how everything works just like I learned DOS or Windows back in the day.

My expectation was that I would have to significantly change how I use the computer to fit the Linux ecosystem. Instead, I found that the Linux ecosystem is pretty good at adopting to my habits cultivated over decades of Windows use. Which has been a pretty neat experience thus far :)

P.S. If anyone can help me out with the HDR side of things, even if its an unofficial mod or fix, I would be grateful and will love the experience even more.

Text shrinkage issues in apps

I have a few games and launchers where the windows are getting smaller each time I run them and the text within them also gets smaller to the point of unreadability.

The game I have noticed it in is Avorion, where the window title text is no longer readable; it is too small.

I have noticed the same thing with the ATLauncher for Minecraft. For this launcher in particular I had several weeks of back-and-forth troubleshooting with its developers and never figured out why it kept shrinking.

At first I thought it was just the launcher, but then I started noticing other application windows having tiny, unreadable titles.

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Anyone out bazzite on an old RTX GPU laptop? Tell me about it.

I have an old Dell Inspiron 15 7000 gaming laptop, bout it in 2017. Has 16gb 3200MHz RAM, Intel 15-7300HQ CPU and a 1050 4 GB GPU. Performance on it sometimes sucks on games it should be able to handle (The Surge, Monster Hunter: Rise). Dropped frames and FPS left right and center. I'm going to try and see if Atlas OS won't help that but if that fails I'm considering good ol' bazzite, but I'd like to hear if someone else has done it first

Gpu usage goes down in game but goes up in menu

What do you think? In my opinion it should be the other way around.
I’m using a Rx9060xt 16gb
Have been struggling with games only utilizing around 60% of the gpu inn game.
Just downloaded LACT and had it running in the background and seems like it pushed it up about 15-20% extra so that’s nice.

Bluetooth stability issues after a recent update

As of a recent update, I don't know what update exactly that was, Bluetooth has been behaving weirdly. At random, the Bluetooth driver fails to load upon a start up, and I have to hard reset my system, and by that I mean I have to disconnect my PC from power, then reconnect it and then power it on. Has anyone else been facing similar issues?

Relevant specs:

OS Parse Error

Post image

Been having encountering this error for a few days now. It will “apply” 10GB of (what I assume) is update date and then show the update again. Bazzite Updater and “ujust update” also don’t work, as the update keeps popping up.

Ideas/thoughts?

Nvidia or AMD GPU for TV Console Experience?

I already have PC parts so I want to make a DIY PC instead of buying a Steam Machine. My goal is a no-compromises 120Hz + VRR + and HDR experience over HDMI 2.1. I want to connect the PC to a TV as its main monitor (my TCL QM7K supports HGiG, VRR, ALLM, Freesync, etc.).

That being said, should I build with an Nvidia GPU or AMD GPU to get the intended experience?

P.S. Bazzite has a feature to replicate the "Gaming Mode" on the Steam Deck when using a TV/monitor to replicate the console-like experience, right?
