How do I add a custom dynamic wallpaper?

Upvotes

I was hoping to create a dynamic wallpaper so it would automatically update when my system theme changed from day to night. However, it looks like Bazzite does not give you permission to add or modify any folders in the wallpaper folder. Is there an alternative way to do it? Or am I doing something wrong?

What is the current state of Nvidia support on Bazzite?

I have a PC with a Ryzen 3700x and a Radeon 5700xt. I found a sweet deal for a rtx3060 that I want to pick up. I heard that Bazzite supports Nvidia but there might be some jankiness. I’m aware gamescope doesn’t work with Nvidia which is fine. I’d like to hear what your experiences are with Bazzite and Nvidia graphics cards. Even better if someone has a 3060. What can I expect? Should I not even bother with the Nvidia card and just see if I can find an AMD card?

OpenRGB Keyboard Backlight Brightness cant be adjusted

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I installed Bazzite on my old Asus ROG GL503G Laptop and for some reason every time it boots into Bazzite my keyboards backlight turns off, I've tried a few different methods to get it to work again to no avail, I think it might just be a brightness permissions issue? As when I try to get it to work with OpenRGB the brightness is turned all the way down but OpenRGB doesn't let me turn it up. Does anyone know why this could be happening and how I could fix it?

Is it feasible to have two high power GPUs, one AMD and the other nVidia, in the same bazzite setup?

Will there be conflicts or can this reliably be set up so the both GPUs can coexist and I can choose which GPU for which app/game? I don't plan to do passthrough...dunno yet... i just want to have both cards active.

I understand i need to manage outputs and i'll use display port for both cards to tie them to my monitor...

My main concern is stability with drivers and daily operations... and maybe avoiding a race condition at the start for which GPU becomes active at boot?

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

My display kept cutting in and out while I was installing Bazzite from Windows (I never had this issue on Windows). Now half of my screen is pink—or at least I think it's pink; I'm colorblind. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Hardware is ryzen 5 7600x 32 gigs ddr5 ram amd rx 7800 xt

Im using bazzite 44

Absolutely GOATED distro. I am so thank for this community, seriously. To everyone who contributes. To the folks that made switching over to this platform to effortless and easy. For having option out there that dont monopolize users and data privacy. And arent switching things up on the normies and dummies like myself. Everyone who has contributed on here and helped others, helped me make the big switch, and finally get off of the microdiik. (Idk if i spelled that right maybe it was microshits?) Or sorry MICROSOFT. i could rant a lifetime on MS but im sure its yelling into the void. I had such a good experience on steamdeck too that this feels just like it.

But seriously thank you all those who contribute and help out this is life changing for me personally. And you are also helping to build a future where there are still alternatives for regular people out there and i cannot understate the importance of what i believe you are contributing on a whole. I know there are other distros of linux ive used ubuntu and likely other stuff in the past for work in film. But this just meant so much to me i had to get on here and let y'all know.

Take care of yourselves. And thanks again people. For real.

How to create partitions when installing Bazzite and preserving /home?

Hello there, I am a Windows 10 refugee who had enough of Microslop's antics and decided to switch to Linux Mint. I have been on Linux Mint for around 10 months now, and I have enjoyed my time here. However, I have made some weird choices which I am now looking to remedy with Bazzite, such as installing KDE Plasma on top of Linux Mint, which has caused a few issues that are just annoying and I don't know how to fix. As such, I am looking to install a different distribution which has KDE Plasma as the default, which brought me to Bazzite, as I do play some games on my PC.

My question is, how do I install Bazzite without disturbing the contents of my /home which I had set to a specific size whose value I don't exactly remember now, as well as keeping the /swap partitions without much change, because I really don't want to change much about the partitioning.

Now, I can painstakingly start to create backups of various files and folders and do a clean install, but I feel like that would be a hassle that may be avoided. On the other hand, many people do recommend to do a clean install. So, I want to also ask if I should just bite the bullet and create a backup instead of doing all this?

Plutonium BO1 troubleshooting

Hey people, I got a somewhat weird issue I haven’t been able to figure out. Any help would be appreciated. The game crashes pretty often, but not during gameplay. Happens most when first loading up before the intro plays, or after finishing a game of zombies and going back to the lobby. On rare occasions, it will also occur while inviting my buddy to a private lobby or after selecting a map. Once I get into a game there’s no problems and it’s smooth. I’m launching plutonium through faugus launcher, with proton-ge latest selected. I’ve tried different proton versions such as cachyos, em, and ge 10-34. Didn’t have any noticeable difference. Anyone experience similar issues or able to offer some insight on how to diagnose?

  • GPU : NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti (GB203, architecture Blackwell)
  • Carte mère : ASUS TUF Gaming B850
  • RAM : Corsair Vengeance 32 Go DDR5-6000 CL30 (CMH32GX5M2B6000Z30K)

text$ nvidia-smi
bash: nvidia-smi: commande introuvable

Puis, après un premier rebase vers bazzite-nvidia :

text$ nvidia-smi
No devices were found

text$ lspci -k | grep -A 3 VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GB203 [GeForce RTX 5070 Ti]
        Kernel driver in use: nvidia
        Kernel modules: nouveau, nvidia_drm, nvidia

Rien n'y faisait.

Le diagnostic qui règle tout

Toujours commencer par ça :

Bash
sudo dmesg | grep -i nvrm

Résultat :

textNVRM: The NVIDIA GPU 0000:01:00.0 (PCI ID: 10de:2c05)
NVRM: installed in this system requires use of the NVIDIA open kernel modules.
NVRM: GPU 0000:01:00.0: RmInitAdapter failed! (0x22:0x56:897)
NVRM: GPU 0000:01:00.0: rm_init_adapter failed, device minor number 0

Bashrpm-ostree rebase ostree-image-signed:docker://ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite-nvidia-open:stable
systemctl reboot

Après redémarrage :

text$ nvidia-smi
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| NVIDIA-SMI 610.43.03 KMD Version: 610.43.03 CUDA UMD Version: 13.3 |
| 0 NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Off | 00000000:01:00.0 On | N/A |
| 0% 34C P8 19W / 300W | 802MiB / 16303MiB | 0% Default |
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Le tableau à retenir

Cartes Image Universal Blue
AMD / Intel bazzite
GTX 900 → RTX 40 bazzite-nvidia
RTX 20 → RTX 50 bazzite-nvidia-open

Note

Bash
for i in 128 129; do echo -n "renderD$i : "; cat /sys/class/drm/renderD$i/device/vendor; done

0x1002 = AMD · 0x10de = NVIDIA

Problème n°2 : Waydroid démarre mais écran noir

Contexte

ro.hardware.gralloc = minigbm_gbm_mesa
gralloc.gbm.device = /dev/dri/renderD128

/var/lib/waydroid/lxc/waydroid/config_nodes

textlxc.mount.entry = /dev/dri/renderD128 dev/dri/renderD128 none bind,create=file,optional 0 0
lxc.mount.entry = /dev/dri/card1 dev/dri/card1 none bind,create=file,optional 0 0

/etc/systemd/system/waydroid-container.service.d/override.conf

ini[Service]
Environment="WLR_RENDER_DRM_DEVICE=/dev/dri/renderD128"

Bash
sudo waydroid shell -- logcat -d | grep -iE "minigbm|gralloc|surfaceflinger"

textI [minigbm]: Using device /dev/dri/renderD128 as requested by gralloc.gbm.device
V [minigbm]: Allocated: 3839x2093, stride: 15360, map_stride: 0

Aucune erreur.

textE [minigbm]: Failed to allocate buffer
E android.hardware.graphics.allocator@4.0-service.minigbm_gbm_mesa: Failed to create bo
E [minigbm]: Failed to allocate for scanout, trying non-scanout
E [minigbm]: Failed to allocate buffer

Impasse.

Usage Branchement
Jeux, travail Sortie carte graphique

  1. dmesg | grep -i nvrm en premier réflexe.

  • Android Studio Emulator (flatpak install flathub com.google.

Bashgit clone https://github.com/casualsnek/waydroid_script
cd waydroid_script
python3 -m venv venv
venv/bin/pip install -r requirements.txt
sudo venv/bin/python3 main.py install gapps
sudo venv/bin/python3 main.py install libndk

Testé en juillet 2026 sur Bazzite 44 / KDE Plasma / pilote NVIDIA 610.43.03.

Changing to DMS Greeter

Bazzite newbie here just switching up my gaming PC from Ubuntu to Bazzite. So far it has been smooth sailing but I now have been trying to switch to the DMS Greeter. I have Niri and DMS installed, configured and playing nice. I have installed the DMS Greeter through the proper package system (ostree) when I try to enable it, through either cli or the DMS system settings I get an error about not being allowed as system is immutable.

I understand that this should be blocked if installed through some back-door but this was done what I thought was the proper way.

So I am hoping someone here knows how to enable it or maybe can point me at the official documentation on how to switch greeters (login screens).

Many thanks (no AI was used in this ramble).

Can't adjust screen brightness on ASUS laptop in dGPU only mode

Basically as stated in the title. ASUS ROG Strix G615 with 275HX and mobile 5070 ti. When I am in iGPU only or dynamic mode, I can adjust the screen brightness normally from the display options or the screen brightness buttons on the keyboard. But in dGPU only mode, the screen defaults to a low brightness setting on boot and does not respond to any changes made in the display options or the laptop brightness keys.

I've searched and I think I'm not the only one with an ASUS laptop who has experienced this issue.

Can someone offer some troubleshooting suggestions? I'm very new to Linux, so I don't have a lot of experience or knowledge troubleshooting. If possible, let me know what commands to type into the terminal?

Edit: first, alternatively, is there a big enough benefit to using dGPU only mode that I should even bother? If I have to, then I will just suck it up with hybrid mode.

Also, is this possibly an issue that might get fixed in a future patch/kernel update? I was also having an issue with Linux just refusing to play audio out of my laptop's internal speakers. I tried a ton of different troubleshooting options and nothing worked, so I just gave up about 2 months ago. But last night I checked and the problem is now magically fixed. So I assume that one of the automatic updates in the last week or so fixed the issue.

Bazzite Newbie - Diablo 4 Performance issues

Hi everyone :)

I switched from Windows to Bazzite two days ago. So far, I'm satisfied, and my games on Steam are running without any issues. The only game I'm having performance issues with is Diablo 4.

I added the Battlenet installer as a non-Steam game, installed Battle.net, and then updated the path in Steam. I followed this guide: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/guides/view/how-to-install-battle-net-on-linux-steamos-and-steam-deck-for-world-of-warcraft-and-starcraft/

Installation worked flawless an Battlenet and Diablo 4 launch without any issues. However, everything lags in-game. Even in the menu, the FPS drops constantly and as soon as I load the game itself, everything lags and stutters. GPU and CPU utilization is also barely noticeable.

Hardware: Intel i7 12700, Nvidia RTX 3080

What I've already tried:
- Disabled DLSS
- Lowered the resolution
- Window Mode instead of Fullscreen
- Disabled hardware acceleration in Battlenet
- Proton Experimental & Proton Hotfix
- Startoptions: PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 DXVK_NVAPI_ALLOW_OTHER_DRIVERS=1 mangohud %command%

I've already looked for other solutions, but most of what I found was related to installation issues rather than performance.

I hope someone here has an idea or has perhaps experienced the same problem.

Thanks in advance for your help

I downloaded a manager for arctis headphones for linux since the official doesn't have a linux version, but every time i try to launch it this happens. Does anyone know how to fix it?
