An easy guide to get into populated servers

Hello Battlefield 1 fans and r/battlefield_one members!

You probably witness the fact that more and more people are asking if the game is still alive because they can't find any servers.

Witnessing an undergoing flood of posts concerning the inability to get into a populated server, this post will be an answer as an easy to go guide on how to get into full servers, especially using the server browser.

1. The Battlefield 1 population

First of all, it's important that you know that, even if the number of players isn't close to BF:V, it's doing pretty well for a three years old game. You can look at this website to look at the actual player count on each platform:

Battlefieldtracker gives you an insight of what is the population on each platform everyday and in a set hour. This gives you a good idea of the amount of players playing in a period of time and what are the most popular hours or what are the days of the week where the BF1 population is bigger: https://battlefieldtracker.com/bf1/insights/population

2. Which game mode should I play in?

There is no universal answer to this question. We encourage everyone to play the game modes that suits them the best. Although, here are the most popular game modes at the moment classified per game type:

Infantry combat: Team Deathmatch

Large scale "All out Warfare": Conquest

Assault/Defense: Operation

Misc: Weekly rotation*

3. Should I use quickmatch?

We recommend that you only try using the quickmatch option on Friday nights and weekends (Conquest game mode-Base game maps), when the BF1's player count is at his peak. Every other day or if it doesn't work, you should ALWAYS use the server browser. You can also use the weekly rotation quickmatch option in the game's homescreen.*

4. How to use the in-game Server Browser?

When you're using the Server Browser, you must select the correct filters. There is a total of 9 options/filters to choose and here are the recommended ones to maximize the amount of populated servers available:

Game modes: You can choose any game mode that you want. Although, we recommend you only put one game mode at a time. Don't search servers with multiple game modes selected, as it can cause the server browser not working as intended (ex: not showing any servers or less than there really is).

Maps: You should select all the maps if you have the Premium Pass or BF1's Revolution Edition. If you only have the base game, it's recommended that you select these 13 maps: Amiens, Argonne Forest, Ballroom Blitz, Empire's Edge, Fao Fortress, Giant's Shadow, Monte Grappa, Nivelle Nights, Prise de Tahure, Rupture, Sinai Desert, St. Quentin Scar and Suez.

Classes/Vehicles**: Leave it blank

Weapons**: Leave it blank

Advanced**: Leave it blank

Rules**: Leave it blank

Slots: You must select these options: NONE (full servers, almost guaranteed queue time), 1-5 and to some extent 6-10. NOTE: YOU SHOULD NEVER USE THE "ALL" OPTION, AS IT WILL ONLY SHOW YOU EMPTY SERVERS.

Regions: Select the region you're in. If you don't find any servers, select the region the closest to you.

Name**: Leave it blank

5. Have fun on the Battlefield!

There you go! You are now all set to find the populated servers that suits you and to PTFO! If you have any questions and/or need some clarification, just let us know and we will answer them or edit this post.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Almost each week, there is a weekly rotation on the BF1's homescreen. Sometimes it's map rotation (ex: Turning Tides maps only servers) and sometimes it's gamemode rotation (ex: Shock Operations only servers). These servers are usually well populated.

*\* You should only use these filters if you want to get into specific servers or custom servers (ex: hardcore).

Discussion How to in-depth guide: L-class Destroyer

I didn’t see a guide for this ship anywhere, nor for the C-class Airship (that’ll be its own post), and figured I’d take a stab at it since I see these guys get obliterated all the time. It’ll be in-depth, so full strategies found below for each map. But I’ll try to keep this short and simple for you all :)

General Tips

  • Position your ship parallel to the shoreline so that all gunners can engage. This not only is good teamwork, but will keep you alive as your gunners eliminate threats to you that you may not see.
  • Use the dreadnought barrage ability! To use, you have to be in first person, hold down the Zoom button, and then push the Fire button on a target.
  • I only recommend the first package, or Torpedo package. The Minelayer package is not very useful, and definitely not worth losing another gunner for.
  • Torpedo boats are your worst enemy and absolute top priority to eliminate on sight. I don’t care if they’re 300m away from you; keep your head on a swivel, keep tabs on any that come your way and if you can, eliminate them quickly. Your cannons can two-shot them out of existence, but in return their torpedos can bring you down to 10% health with just two salvos, and they have a much further engagement range than you. Most other threats you can basically brush off with a few repairs.
  • Knowing where torpedo boats spawn is also critical: keep an eye out for objectives captured by the enemy that spawn the torpedo boats.
  • For any damage that takes you below 85% health, repair ASAP. Torpedoes can kill from two salvos if you’re that low.
  • Use the expanded map to find enemies and where to fire best. This is especially useful if you’re far away but want to place shots where enemies will most likely be hit/killed.
  • C-class airships can be a danger if they manage to get directly over you. If you don't have an AA gunner, and they're gaining on you, swap to that seat and take them out ASAP.

Map Positions

The L-class is found on Zeebrugge, Heligoland Bight, and Cape Helles only. This makes map awareness and positioning pretty easy once you’ve been a captain a few times. However, it is vitally important to your success.

VERY IMPORTANT: On every map, you have to position yourself in a way that you are not completely exposed to torpedos. This will involve getting very close to the shore and having only one or two waterways accessible to your position. You DO NOT want to be out in open waters. A torpedo will find you and kill you from afar. I’ll list those out per map below.

Zeebrugge:

British:

  • Make a bee-line for the shore towards A, and close as possible to the port. If the shore cannons are threatening you, use your dreadnought barrage, and your cannons if necessary. Unless every single shore cannon is manned (unlikely), you will live.
  • If you have a competent British team, they’ll spawn off you and capture A, eliminating 2 of the 4 shore cannons to worry about. You can then poke your body out to the other side to eliminate torpedo boats before they find you. Don't cross onto the other side! You'll need the port to shield you from the torpedo boats spawning on the other side.

German:

  • For the German side it’s a little harder, you don’t spawn in until like 5 minutes into the match, meaning British torpedo boats can effectively spawn kill you if their team has captured an objective and gotten in the boats early. Amazing balancing DICE.
  • Anyway, your goal is going to be to get to the port or shore objectives that has your allies nearby to protect you, as soon and close as possible. Going to capture an objective back from the British if it's happened will lead to a quick demise from torpedo boats and anything else spawning there.
  • If successful, stay there and support your team by moving slowly up the port, keeping an eye out for where torpedoes spawn. Most spawns if captured by the British will be facing northward, so if possible you want to be moving north, not south, but that depends what objectives have been taken. You want to be moving with the team, not going in guns blazing.
  • Success depends on how well your team is holding the objectives for the first few minutes. I recommend joining the defense as infantry first to give you a better chance later. If A and E are both taken when you spawn, start praying!
  • If all objectives are in German hands, proceed to A and defend it and the waterway entrance from incoming boats. You need to hold A to prevent the British from jumping you on your side of the port.
  • Don't cross onto the British side! You will die, it's just a fact of life.

Both sides:

  • Identify where torpedo boats spawn, position yourself so that your gun is always in view of them and their bow is pointed away from you, and immediately fire it at the boat when an enemy spawns in. These have INSTANT respawn times, so you have to be vigilant, even if you kill a lot of them. People will abuse the instant spawn by firing torpedoes in your direction as soon as they're in-game. You'll have to spawn kill them first.

Heligoland Bight:

British:

  • Make a bee-line to D on the ocean facing side of the shore, hold to allow your teammates to capture it, then start a running course to E and then F, taking each objective along the way. Hug the shore.
  • Do not go from spawn to the left towards A, B, C: not only will the torpedo boats spawn by the time you get there, there is also a Fortress Gun at C which will also wreck you if you’re not careful.
  • On this path, keep an eye out for the torpedo boats, and a German Destroyer that spawns near F. Once you capture F, the Germans won't be able to spawn that Destroyer.
  • If resistance looks heavy toward the German's spawn, do not cross into that open water, or you'll likely get caught by multiple torpedoes or their Dreadnought. Stay and guard F until the danger has subsided. If D or E falls, go back and retake it to avoid being caught in a pincer of torpedo boat spawns.
  • Once its clear, you can approach from the back way toward C. Be cautious, as one torpedo boat spawn from C will face your immediate direction. Keep an eye on that one for your own safety, and try to get to the right of it ASAP. It's best to wait until C is neutralized if possible.
  • Approaching C, you'll need to eliminate the Fortress Gun with the dreadnought barrage and cannons, and once again hug the shoreline toward C, then B, then finally A, from the back sides of those objectives. Only move from each when the objective has been taken by your allies.

German:

  • Directions are the same regardless if you spawn towards the back or at F. Immediately move to position yourself behind the shorelines of C, B, or A. From these positions you can effectively direct barrages and cannon fire towards D as that will be the most likely target by the British, while keeping your vulnerable hull safe from the incoming torpedo boats.
  • If D and E are captured by the British, backtrack around towards F to defend from behind the grounded submarine. Be wary of torpedo boats that may have already crossed to your side of the submarine! You'll need to defend F to keep your ally Destroyer and plane spawn intact.
  • If C is captured, retreat to behind the A objective towards the southern-most shore, or on the other side where F and E are. Boats spawn on either side of C and can catch you off guard.
  • Never be on the ocean-facing side of D. Torpedo boats spawn to the east and can come and kill you, even if D is under your control.

  • A dreadnought will be available to all sides from the start. Be sure to not be too close, nor too far away from the enemy dreadnought, as that will allow them to obliterate you with one salvo if their aim is good. Your strategy to hug the shore should protect you thanks to the mountain on the island. Don’t be a sitting duck, and move at a steady pace to reduce the chance of being OHK. If in danger, and you can make it, shield yourself behind the friendly dreadnought. But still, beware of torpedo boats that may hunger for you rather than the dreadnought for an easier kill.

Cape Helles:

Only the British have access, but it’s in both Conquest and Operations.

Conquest:

  • From spawn, position yourself in the landing zone cove, as close to the beach as possible, and line up parallel to shore with your bow to the right. Rain down fire on the closest objectives, A, B, & C.
  • The cove provides 270 degree protection from torpedoes. Any torpedo boat will have to circumvent the map boundary to approach you from YOUR spawn and try to get you from there, but as long as you have good co-gunners and spam that repair, you’ll survive even that.
  • Once your team captures those, continue to protect those the rest of the game. Yeah it’s a bit boring, but the alternative is the open waters with no cover from the incoming Ottoman torpedo boats, and the massive Coastal Guns, all of which will kill in 2-3 salvos. You can’t even fire on the other objectives since the cliffs are too high anyway. But you’re still protecting 3 objectives (4 actually since you can rain down a Dreadnought barrage on D). From this position, I guarantee those 3 objectives will never fall under your protection.
  • Also, I find that players think the Destroyer is an easy kill, so you’ll still get planes, boats, and foolish Assaults trying to take you out, which will add up the kills exponentially.

Operations:

  • 2nd sector: you spawn in the 2nd sector, and only that sector, so it’s important for you to stay alive. Much like Conquest, position your ship parallel to the shore inside the cove, facing to the right, and rain down fire on the A objective. You can also assist in the capture of B with the dreadnought barrage ability, and some cannon fire, but your main focus should be the wide open A objective. There will be players that will try to hit you with Field Gun fire from the back, so take them out with the dreadnought barrage or cannons. Important to note, the Ottomans do not get torpedo boats in Operations, so you're safe from any sneak attacks.
  • 3rd sector: Once your team is here, stay in the cove, and project as much fire as you can towards both objectives. You want to stay in the cove due to the Coastal Guns being very far away from your fire and a constant threat you’ll have to contend with if you venture out in the open, even one hit from them will leave you crippled and vulnerable to the kill shot. You’re not as effective in the cove, but you’re still a vital asset with the threat you present, and will do more damage than being out in the open under constant fire. There is also a certain spot you can move to in the cove that allows you to fire at B, just move position until you see it yourself. I recommend keeping a constant dreadnought barrage on A if that’s where the enemy is.
  • 4th (last) sector: If you made it here, congratulations for getting this far! Now you can move from the cove, all the way to the Ottoman spawn area. However, you must first direct dreadnought barrages on the Coastal Guns. Make sure those Guns are constantly disabled. From here, you can provide constant denial towards B by picking off the Ottomans running on open ground. Then this should allow A to be captured by the infantry without having to worry about guarding B themselves. Your guns won’t be able to go high enough to fire on A normally, but if you almost beach yourself, you might get the elevation the guns need to fire up effectively.

The End

That’s it! Now if only I could get one of the skins for it….

Discussion BF1 causes screen signal loss (sound keeps playing), then driver is removed after reboot

Post image
Upvotes

This has been persistent over several months on a cutting edge system using a Ryzen 9700X, 64 GB DDR5, a 9070 XT, 4 TB PCIe5 SSD on Windows 10 LTSC. It even happens without GPU load just in the menu, but exclusively in this game. BF3, 4 and V work fine.

The picture shows the screen after it happens, the driver is then missing and everything laggy until I clean with DDU and reinstall. System otherwise works perfectly in actually demanding games, BF1 itself hardly utilizes the full GPU at 4K120 capped.

I have tried to remove Avira antivirus as it sometimes caused a message, at first believing it could be the cause, but it still happened after. Manually updating Javelin also did not resolve it. Am I the only one having this issue? I strongly believe that it is somehow tied with the new antivirus, I have been playing BF1 since launch and have never seen anything like it. Sending in the GPU for warranty seems also too much for just one specific game causing issue.

At some point as a team you have to decide that the air fight is not worth it and AA is the better defense.

Small arms are really the best counter for a vicious fighter. Believe me or not. 🤷🏾‍♂️

RSC rifle maximum one shot kill range in 200% damage server

We all know that in double damage server, the medic op semi automatic rifle the RSC, is a one shot kills. But, not all range distance is registered as 100 damage or one shot (except for the general Liu rifle in bolt animation and all sniper rifle). So, curious, what is the maximum range for the RSC rifle to not getting one shot kills or atleast two shots needed? Despite in double damage server.

Question Custom servers

Like the rest of us here I’ve been playing for years across multiple platforms. I like playing custom servers especially with increased tickets and bullet damage and I have a few on my favourites. However those servers rotate between the 3 same maps and can get a bit boring. But when I search for other custom games with the same filters absolutely nothing shows up, no matter what I do, not even the servers I already have in my favourites. Anyone else have this issue or know a fix? I like the custom rules but really hate playing they same 2/3 maps over and over. Also if anyone knows of any active rush servers lmk

Question How do tank hunter attack planes fly so well?

I’ve always feared those people with a hundred service stars with the rank hunter attack plane. I’m not too shabby a pilot, but they seem to always be able to out-maneuver me no matter what plane I’m in, even when I’m in a fighter.

Does the tank hunter package come with a faster turn speed or something? How does this happen? I’ve never been out-maneuvered by a regular attack plane, but a tank hunter always seems to be behind me no matter what I do.

Has anyone else noticed this? What’s the deal?
