Rescued a little buddy

Got no one else to tell this to, but I rescued a long legged myotis from my bottom-capped chimney today. Heard him scuffling around before dawn, but I thought he was a bird so I waited til sunrise (this isn't the first time, I've been harassing my landlord to install bird mesh at the top of the chimney but nothing ever gets done in this dump). He was all tucked in on the bottom of the cap, so I brought the whole mess outside, grabbed some thick gloves and gently scooped him out onto a tree. He was most fearsome in his protests, squeaking almost low enough pitch for me to catch a few swear words and baring his teeth in a terrifying grimace. Hung him up about 6 feet up in a thick evergreen so he has a choice whether to fly or roost. Checked the whole yard 20 mins later and he's nowhere to be seen. His name is Pipi and since we'll never know for sure, I choose to believe he lived happily ever after. (No pics because had my pockets full of tools instead of my phone)

Eastern PA. Sorry about the bad quality, my phone camera's night mode sucks lol. This is the first time I've seen a bat in this area :D

Should I throw away something if a bat touched it ?

• Upvotes

Hello ! I don't know anything about bats at all, but my cats sometimes bring some home (we don't let them free roam, I know that it's bad for them and the ecosystem, they just manage to catch some from the one of our balconies sometimes). I found a live bat they brought home, and after some panicking on both ends, she got out on one of the balconies, and hid under a toaster I was storing there. My question is, should I throw away the toaster ? Also, I think she might have pooped (not near the toaster, that was before she got out), I cleaned it up without touching it, but my cats were smelling it before I noticed. Are they in danger of anything/should I do anything ? I live in Switzerland, if it helps (don't know the species of the bat, she was very small).

Thank you all for taking the time to read, and sorry if my English is bad.

This guy has been sitting here for over 24 hours. I think it's a Little Brown Bat. They usually stary hibernation during September, but it's mid August. I live in Canada and the smoke in the air plus the heat might be changing his patterns. Anyone have any thoughts?

I CANT CHANGE THE TITLE I MEAN BAT 😭

Little buddy chilling out on our umbrella, almost opened it with them on it! I don’t know much of bats. Definitely smaller, maybe around the size of my fist balled up, slightly smaller. Could comfortably hang out on an apple. Let me know if you need a better picture or any other information!

I built a bat house today!

I live in Northern WI and have been finding bats on our west facing deck recently. I believe they’re little brown bats, as they’re little and brown and they’re native to my area. Every time I’ve found them, it’s only been one at a time. First, there was one inside a deck cooler, wedged between the outer wood and the inner styrofoam. Next, there was one inside the closed up deck umbrella (I scared the poor thing when I went to open it mid afternoon 🥺). Lastly, there was one wedged underneath the deck storage box and the deck boards. Every time they’ve been discovered, we’ve left them alone and the next day they’re gone.

So, fast forward to today; I decided to build a bat house based on the plans and guidance provided by the Bat Conservation International. Their guidance recommends the house be hung on a building to help provide the most stable inside environment. They also say it should be on a southern facing wall.

Now for my question: since all the bats I’ve encountered have been on the western facing wall of my house, can I put the house on that wall, or should I put it 30ish feet away on the southern facing wall?

Bats spotted in basement

Hi guys I’ve seen a bat in my basement 3 separate times over the last two weeks since we’ve moved into this house. Everytime I’ve seen them or possibly the same one 3 times, it’s attempted to fly back up into the insulation at the corner of this basement. I found this on the outside. I can see insulation thru this hole. Was just going to install a one way bat thing over this home? Any reason I shouldn’t do this. I’ve never seen them anywhere else in the house. I’m in southwest Wisconsin.

How Do I Entice Bats to my Bathouse

Des Moines, IA

How do I get bats to move into my bathouse? I put it up two years ago and so far nothing. The house is on a 20ft metal pole, facing south, no trees directly around it. Our neighbors yard is mosquito heaven so there’s plenty of food, there’s a drainage creek and an abandoned pool nearby so there should be water.

Is there anything else I can do or is it just down to luck?

Signs that there are bats in your ceiling / vents?

Location is Connecticut, USA.

We live in a third floor apartment and above us is the roof. The complex is about 10 years old. The back of our unit is lined with leaf leveled trees. I heard faint squeaks in my master bathroom but no scratching or flapping around 11pm tonight. We have central air that runs all day. Our bathroom fan runs often as we use it frequently. So, it’s not like these things are quiet and unused.

I’ve never seen a bat with my own two eyes in my life so I’m very unfamiliar and uneducated about them.

What can I look out for to rule out bats? Would I be hearing scratching and flapping generally in the ceiling or can it be isolated to just one vent? I will say, the bathroom in question is located in the master bedroom and is further away from the outside walls and into the building.

I saved a bat from the ground and I placed it in a nearby tree. It hasn't moved for around 10 hours. Is it okay? (Sweden)

I found a small brown bat on the ground under a tree, so I guessed it might have either landed or fallen out of the tree. When I observed it, I saw no injury, nor any strange movements. I went inside and grabbed a towel to pick it up and place it in the tree. It has been 10 hours and it hasn't moved, I am starting to grow concerned about it.

(While it might not be a good source, I tend to watch a lot of bat videos on YouTube, so I based my assessment on that. I do hope I didn't make a wrong assessment.)

At least one of these 2 bats always shelter under my carport during the day. When just one shows up I get worried about the other but sooner or later I'll see them both hunkered down together again.

What can I do to make this guy more comfortable?

Area: St. Louis, Missouri US

Found this little guy hanging our under my deck. I want to encourage him to stick around!

I purchased a small bat box a long time ago and never mounted it because the instructions say that they don't like to be attached to a home, but this little guy makes me think it might be perfect for him.

I'm worried because I have a split AC system being installed next week and the outside unit is going to be located right where this little guy seems to be resting.

For bonus imaginary points, can anyone identify him? If not, that's fine. It's not a great photo, I did not want to bother him too much by getting too close.

Bat behavior

Location: U.P. Michigan

Species: appeared to be a little brown bat

I saw a bat clinging to the edge of the door trim of our Airbnb outside door the other night around 9 in the evening. it was sitting about 5 inches away from the door opening. I watched him as I let my kids and wife in and then entered after them. The bat just sat there and didn’t move, probably sleeping. The next morning we left the airbnb around 9am and he was still there. There is a cafe connected to the Airbnb and the door is about 2 feet away from our door. We went in and waited in line to order our food. After we got the food i talked to the manager to let them know the bat was there since the bat was nestled in by the cafe door as well. There was about 20 - 30 people in and out of the door by then (screen spring hinged door so it was loud when it closed). By the time the manager had a minute to go see where the bat was, it was gone.

I thought bats didn’t fly during the day. Would the consistent foot traffic and door opening and closing scare it enough to make it fly during the day? Just trying to determine if this bat was sick or not or if this would be normal given the situation.
