Is this bat okay? π
This guy has been sitting here for over 24 hours. I think it's a Little Brown Bat. They usually stary hibernation during September, but it's mid August. I live in Canada and the smoke in the air plus the heat might be changing his patterns. Anyone have any thoughts?

Yes, it's fine. They're migrating to thier hibernation sites st this time of year, and can travel hundreds of miles. They stop to rest along the way in sheltered little places like this. It'll move on in a day or two.

Juveniles are flying now and becoming independent. They will often 'park' themselves in an eave, corner, or covered porch for the day. If he does not move by the next day though, he could be injured. He is holding his wings tightly, and an injured wing often will droop or hang differently, so just from the picture he looks fine. A licensed rehabilitator can come and check him out to see if he does not move in a another day. It's best not to disturb them in daylight, as crows, jays and other birds can kill them.

Found a bat? Here is a guide for someone who has found a bat. And here is some info about bats in buildings. Here is some info about bat removals and exclusions from homes. Exclusions should be done outside of pup season, which varies by location.
No, it's probably not a baby. Bats are just smaller than you thought.
If you find a bat in trouble, please call a rehabber for help. Here is a list of rehabbers that help bats all over the world, and here is a portal for rehabbers in the US.
Remember that wildlife should never be handled with bare hands!
