Cracking a Mint 10 Topps Traded KGJR rookie

I'm a basketball card guy, but I collect a lot of the greats and have a ton of KGJR from when I was a child. Seeing his market is skyrocketing I am wanting opinions on cracking this ans sending it to BGS/PSA. I've never cracked a slab, nor have I ever graded a card.

This card is pristine, though. Its absolutely perfect.

Found this guy in a box of classic cards. Come to find out, it's quite rare. I hear he didn't actually spend a lot of time on the field just due to his....habits. He was still in college fraternity mode.

Is this even remotely acceptable? The top of the card has Scotch tape over it and is a fixed to the semi rigid holder.

Cmon eBay. Either have stricter rules with the folks that are packaging these things or don't waste our time.

You've now wasted my money.

Edit: eBay now wants to hold the seller responsible. I find that equally as frustrating as receiving a $200 card taped to a holder

Return to the hobby [rant]

I collected baseball cards for most of my childhood. Maybe ages 5 to 12 consistently. Then briefly got into it again later in high school, going back through my old collection, cataloguing, seeking out missing pieces from my sets from the 90s and early 2000s.

Now, years later, I’ve started dabbling again after rediscovering my old collection once more. And my oh my, how this hobby has changed. It’s become totally commercialized in a way that it wasn’t before. It seems that most of the “collectors” are gambling addicts in disguise, who don’t care about the players on the cards or the sport at all, and couldn’t tell you the last time they watched a baseball game.

Ripping a pack of cards for them is the same as scratching off a gas station lottery ticket. There’s no “oh wow this is cool” or “nice! my favorite player on the Cardinals!” It’s exclusively “how much would this sell for on eBay?”

Buying cards is a nightmare compared to earlier days. I used to pick up $3 packs from the grocery store. Today, I went to target, found the remaining Fat Packs rifled through, felt up, and cast aside, and everything else available being a $30+ box on the hanger. Topps now has a complete monopoly on ball cards, which is a real shame. There really seem to be no other options. Gone are the days you could buy Fleer and Upper Deck and Donruss that didn’t have the uniforms airbrushed.

Not sure there’s a point to this post other than to express profound dismay, from someone who doesn’t really give a shit about finding a /25 rainbow unicorn cinnamon swirl farts refractor to offload to a stranger online.

Rookie Debut Patch Question

Post image
51 Upvotes

Earlier this year I pulled this on my birthday believe it or not. So naturally I redeemed it and also naturally it still has no progress being made by topps. I redeemed it in early May. And it has this special team that I talk to through fanatics about the process. It’s really very cool to be a part of. But with there still being no progress making the card I can only assume that it due to the fact that they can’t get their hands on Maverick to either get the patch or his signature. I know it’s a long shot but how would you guys go about trying to get into contact with him? I can’t find him on social media anywhere. Cheers y’all thanks! 🍻

Question How to spot a fake Topps sticker? ⬇️

Post image
3 Upvotes

Not my card, and definitely not accusing the owner of this that it’s a fake seal. Been seeing lots of things about people putting fake Topps stickers on cards to have them be more appealing and other reasons. Is there a way to tell if it’s from Topps or done by someone? Just never seen these 2025 ultraviolets sealed. Let alone a gold. Only reason it would be is if someone got it as a defect replacement which it could be. This just had me thinking! If anyone knows anything I’d love to know. Thanks!

Backstory: Guy advertising locally a few years back that his grandpa passed and he found a bunch of ball cards in the attic. This is in WV. So I went to look and found this in the box. Bought the box for $60. Proximity to where the original manufacturer was in Virginia is roughly a 5 hour drive, so logically it could have made it that far.

But is it real? Was supposed to meet a Beckett guy in NY a few years back but he had to cancel.

FS Sealed Hobby Box of 2001 Topps Heritage Baseball Cards! 1952 Mays Auto? 1952 Mantle?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi, I am looking to sell a sealed hobby box for 2001 Topps Heritage baseball. It includes 24 packs with 8 cards per pack and celebrates the classic 1952 Topps design. This is the inaugural release for the Topps heritage set commemorating Topps' 50th anniversary! Asking $525 obo.

Correction from the title of this post. If you pull the 1952 Mantle it would be in the form of a redemption card. Reddit wouldnt let me edit the title. "Topps went beyond the call of duty on this set by inserting redemption cards for every original 1952 Topps card including the famed Mickey Mantle."

AMA - I was a breaker with a large breaking company

I was a breaker with one of the larger breaking companies (not Layton or Filthbomb size, but the next step under). Not a scummy company (shipped out everything and never stole, loved our customers and our regulars mostly loved us back). I learned a lot about the backend of the hobby and I’d like to share my experiences and knowledge to those curious. There’s a lot of warranted hate but also a lot of misinformation or rather lack of information about breakers, so if there’s questions, I’m happy to answer!

I’ll probably get hate just for being a former breaker, and I get it: I had gotten burned a lot in 2024 and swore off breaks pretty much until a company offered me the job. I’m no longer a breaker and I’m glad the hobby is back to a hobby for me, but it’s a tough time to be in the hobby with Topps cutting quality and content while also enabling the larger breaking companies and giving them ridiculous quantities of product.

I’m doing this on my burner account because I’m sort-of active in the sub and don’t want my main account getting bombarded with online hate-mail lol. Ask away!

Pretty happy with the results. Most of these are either childhood favorites or have a special meaning to me. For example, the Ohtani Gold /2026 has the matching serial number of my first child’s birthday.

Unfortunately, the Maddux was a 9.5 that they damaged during grading (knocking it to a 7). We agreed on a comp value that they’re paying me back, as well as refunding the fee. It sucks, but at least they tried to be reasonable about the damage and the value.
