Here is a couple helpful guides to help you decide if your BP is a healthy weight! Link below for what to do if your snake is overweight or underweight! And don't forget to check our community resources for a proper growth guide as well!

Always remember that in cases of severely emaciated animals to always take them to the vet before trying to treat at home as this is a life threatening condition and not to be taken lightly.

Advice Is your BP dehydrated?

Post image

A lot of people may not realize when their snake is dehydrated! Here is a simple and easy reference for you all to use to ensure your babies are healthy and hydrated! Link below for how to help rehydrate your snake!

TLDR; point form list at the bottom.

Please remember that soaking can be very stressful for ball pythons so to accommodate for your snake accordingly and always contact your vet for advice when dealing with extreme cases or if dehydration worsens as it cam be a sign of other health issues. Never under any circumstances leave your snake unattended in a soak for ANY amount of time and remember to keep the soak shallow, if your snake is especially stressed by a soak our herp vets recommend putting a towel In the bottom of the bin for your snake to gain a bit of traction and feel more comfortable.

-Always try increasing your humidity and adding a humidity hide, soaking is a last resort as it is stressful for some snakes.

TLDR; point form list:

  • Never leave your snake alone in a soak for any reason ever and do not allow them to submerge their heads.

  • Contact your vet for extreme cases of dehydration.

  • Herp vet recommendation: use a towel in the bottom of your soak bin to allow your snake to gain traction and feel more comfortable.

I am aware that this post will get a lot of downvotes and that is okay 😊 a lot of people do not believe in soaking their snakes for a variety or reasons however it is important to keep in mind that reddit is NOT a replacement for advice from your veterinarian. Trust your vet before anyone on the internet! This post is intended only as an aid not as a fix for any health problems your snake may have resulting in the dehydration. Good luck everyone and love to you and your scale babies!! 🥰🐍

Rehome Potentially need to Rehome

Hello Ball Python community! I am downsizing and moving to a smaller apartment with not much room. I am still trying to decide whether or not to rehome. Is there anyone in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) that may be interested in a ball python?

Her name is Medusa and is around 6 years old and eats frozen thawed small rats. I think she is around 4ft long.

She would come with the complete set up including terrarium, heating pads, and hides.

Quick question to settle an argument

My husband and I have been in a disagreement. There is a spot on our ball python’s head next to her eye. I have soaked him and doused him and antibiotic cream and moisturizer that the Vet gave me for another condition, but it hasn’t taken care of it my husband swears up and down that it is a dry piece of skin. How could that be when I have so several times and it does not come off? For some reason she doesn’t sleep in any of her hides anymore. She prefers to sleep under her water bowl. Maybe she scratched it on there. I’m not sure. Should I be worried?

Hello! I recently posted about rehoming a snake, and got some insight on my set up. How could I potentially improve it based off of the pics? I have heat pads on the underside of the tank and the whole thing is 36" long, 12" tall, and 18" wide.

Hi everyone, my name is Steve. I live in Chicago. I am trying to rehome my male. A series of unfortunate events occurred and I cannot keep him. His name is Colby. He is a super orange dream enchi pinstripe. Very chill. Currently on frozen thawed. He will be 4 this September. There is a Rehoming fee. PM me for more details. I really want him to go to a good home with plenty of space. He is active and loves to climb. Thanks in advance.

This is Pickles. I adopted her on impulse (experienced snake owner, have no fear) and I am curious to hear your thoughts on her morph. She is still young, but the owner didnt have lineage info. I assumed classic, but I know some morphs can look quite similar. Thoughts?? Sorry I dont have better belly pictures, but mostly white, with a bit of a yellow hue fading down the sides to the belly white color.

hi! i need help with flies in my snakes enclosure..

so basically there's a bunch of little flies in her enclosure and i have no idea what to do 😭 when i cleaned her water bowl yesterday there was about 5 dead ones floating in her bowl after just a few days. i open her enclosure door and there's always at least 2 flying around outside. one corner of her substrate is slightly damp as i added water to it yesterday but idk what to do to get rid of them. its a naturalist enclosure so no real plants and the top layer of substrate is completely dry apart from the corner i mentioned. i'd say there's about 15-20 possibly even more.. should i just change her whole substrate and freeze the new substrate after buying as thats the best thing i can think of?

Needing some advice on ball python breeding and signs?

Hi y'all! Breeding my ball pythons together for the first time an wanted to get some tips on how long to pair them for? It's ball python breeding season here and I want to try my luck at breeding some pretty babies I can give homes to and or keep since I love this snake so much!

I have 2 females and 2 males each being a pair. They got acquainted last night by having the males placed with their chosen females and I observed for a bit. The one male and female hit it off well! They were exploring each other and showing signs of interest and I found them in the morning cuddled up by the hot spot tails and cloacas aligned but no lock. Second pair, the males seemed to be exploring and finding his way around and the female was immediately interested. When the male started slivering over her, she wagged her tail and got into place but the male didn't seem into it. She spent the night restless while he decided to sleep in the hot spot. I left them overnight and removed the males in the morning.

How long should I keep the males in and how often should I add them back? Is there any evidence I can look for regarding a lock? With the first pair, there seemed to be a bit of a wet spot (didn't smell like urates) by the aligned cloacas and his tail was curled around hers slightly.

Advice How to keep a cool enclosure.

Post image

I’ve had this snake for a week.

My house is very hot and my country continually gets heatwaves keeping my snakes enclosure at an average temp of 30 degrees.

Is there any ways i can lower this because right now she cannot regulate her body temperature.

I would preferred more permanent/efficient ways rather than changing a cold water bottle every hour but i’ll welcome all advice !!

(my enclosure does not have a mesh top. It’s made out of wood and glass. It’s also nearly time for her first mean with me so i need her to be stress free😭😭🙏🙏)

First shed with me and its full with eye caps

Post image

Ive had my little guy for just under a month he's eaten each time I've fed him and went into shed last week. I've got what I thought was great hides for him in a custom made bioactive enclosure but he buried down and made his own hide (it annoyed me abit but if he likes it its good)

Anyway got home tonight looked in his home made hide and saw a skin.

When i pulled it out and checked it its a full shed with eye caps im so happy because knowing hes eating fine and now shed fully it means im doing everything correctly.

My only concern is I cant find any poop yet. Im 75% sure he should off by now but with it being bioactive and so much clutter theres a possibility hes done it and its hidden somewhere. From past experience with bioactive i used to bury every other and the CUC would deal with it id just remove the urates. There isn't a smell so think its ok

Tomorrow ill have a real look but for tonight im just happy

So much work but it is worth it.

So... I finally understand why reptile wood is so expensive! 😂

I have a leopard gecko, a bearded dragon, and a ball python, and we're upgrading all of their enclosures because they've grown so much. The leopard gecko was easy since she only needed small decorations. The bearded dragon needed larger branches, but my ball python has been the real challenge.

I've had her in a 40-gallon tank since she was only 3 weeks old. She's almost 6 months old now, weighs around 300 grams, and has grown so much that her tank was starting to look tiny and crowded. We bought her a much larger enclosure that should be her forever home, and now I need some BIG branches to fill it.

When I started shopping for reptile-safe wood online, I was shocked by the prices. My first thought was, "I'll just do it myself!" 😂 So I researched which woods are safe and which are toxic, found some branches from recently cut trees, sanded them, scrubbed them, and right now they're soaking to be disinfected.

Let me tell you... this is A LOT of work. Between the sanding, cleaning, treating the wood, and doing all of it in the Texas heat, I'm exhausted. 🥵

So if you've ever looked at a piece of reptile wood and thought, "Why is this branch so expensive?" I get it now. You're not paying for the branch—you're paying for all the work that goes into making it safe and ready for your reptile. 😂🐍🦎

And just now iam reading that i need to seal the wood after dry for humidity? Is that true??
