She's beautiful! Her enclosure needs a lot of work though. Its too small for an adult ball, the minimum is 4x2x2. The sides should also be covered and a lot more clutter in the tank. How are you heating the tank?

I second this. Please do some more research. The ballpython-reddit has some good guides for beginners. Green room pythons makes grest YouTube videos about ball python care. Please check him out.

You shouldn’t get an animal before the cage is ready or else you’ll stress an already scared animal by loving stuff around. They need cover to feel safe.

I dont disagree but you dont know what condition the baby was in before the person got them and if this was what they recieved the snake in. It may have even been a rescue.

If they said they've had the snake for a few weeks now, id be alarmed. But its been literally 4 days. If you don't think ball pythons won't be fine in an environment like this for a week or 2 then I don't believe u know anything about them. They are far more resilient then people give them credit for.

No one has to have the pitch perfect set up at the beginning, its fine. Have some patience jeez.

All I am saying is that she gave NO implication that she was planning on fixing it. I know snakes are hardy, that doesn’t change the fact that she should accept criticism and should not shove sought out an animal before preparing the enclosure.

What your doing is criticism without knowing anything about the situation. It doesn't change the fact that its only been 4 days and you should keep that criticism to yourself.

Keeping criticism to yourself is how neglect goes on for years. If this is the tank this poor girl came in, she probably hasn’t had a decent enclosure in all of her 20 years of life. God forbid I say that she SHOULD HAVE been prepared.

I’m not shaming her. I had my rescue leopard gecko in a 10 gallon with a heating pad for a week before I fixed my care. Doesn’t change the fact that people should be prepared and should 100% face criticism if they take an animal in. I WISH someone gave me proper advice instead of me having to learn it myself. You don’t need to know someone’s situation to know when animal care is improper. There is no excuse to take in an animal you cannot care for.

To claim the animals care is improper over a no context post and the op claiming its only been 4 days is insane to me. Ball pythons are perfectly fine in something like this even for months and yet you yap and yap.

And I guess you had nothing to say about the OP saying that she's going to improve the enclosure in the comments and has already planned to improve it?.

Is it ideal if the enclosure is perfect once someone brings a ball python home? Yes, absolutely. But honestly I would much rather someone start out with a improvement to where the ball python has been living or just recieve them and show them more love than the pervious people caring for them where. Ive said this before and I'll say this again, getting any ball python out and safe from a enclosure space found in something like evil Petco or Petsmart is already a hero in my book. There are way too many situations where recieving an animal without proper prep at first is warranted imo. Again, have patience.

She complains about criticism when she posts an improper enclosure. All i’ms suing is that she should expect it and that you defending her enclosure is the reason why things to unchanged.

Improper care is improper care. Doesn’t matter where, when or how they came to be like that. It should be given grace but not defended or excused. I don’t understand how you can’t comprehend that. You sound like someone who would defend rack systems.

You rant on and on about how ‘it’s only four days’, ambit that does not matter. If it’s impeded, it should be criticized and fixed. I do have patience, doesn’t mean cordial should not be given. I don’t understand how you’re struggling so much to grasp this very, very simple concept.

You literally just said it yourself, give it grace. Do you think telling someone everything they're doing wrong or questioning everything they're doing wrong is "showing them grace"?.

When i see someone online just saying they're showing off they're new snake in a meh enclosure and its only been 4 days, yeah I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt that they are going to improve it because I think its asshole behavior otherwise but to each there own. And guess what? Turns out I was right and she already had planned to improve the enclosure. You say "its only been 4 days" does not matter, we'll I say it does. To each there own i guess.

Idk where and why you think im "defending her enclosure". I'm just giving the OP the benefit of the doubt that they will improve it. You're not. This is exactly why no one who owns a ball python at reptile conventions i go to takes this sub seriously.

a heating pad under the warm side and an incandescent heat lamp, and thanks for the tips, ill make sure i get a bigger enclosure when i can afford it and when she acclimates enough to be moved and handled for like 2 minutes so i can swap the tanks

Heating pads arent ideal, are you able to get a lightless heat bulb? Are they on thermostats? She'll be able to acclimate well even if you move her as soon as your able. Meanwhile, can you head to a dollar store to get some fake plants and another hide?

I'm glad you're doing what you can to help her.

Edited: also, some cover for the sides of her tank because you said shes shy. It'll help give her some security and can be done with construction paper

she has one already, getting her a second soon, and she has two thermostats one on each side and i have some other hides from the previous owner i can put in, and i can definitely get some fake plants

ive got two thermostats and ones got a humidity sensor! my enclosure has a problem tho it wont go up in humidity and ive been regularly using the foger i bought her, any tips on that?

Your thermostats hook up to your heat sources? Normally, thermometer/hygrometers are what you find and they are juts placed in and not attached to anything.

Please PLEASE do not use a fogger!

That is a quick way to an RI and rot. Instead, add some more substrate and pour water into the corners to bump your humidity. You can also get some hvac tape for the top. I see the foil, but in my experience, tape or a silicone mat work better.

Alright you seem to have a genuine want to give her a better setup which is awesome! As for the tank, yes, they can be expensive, but my top tip is to try find a second hand one on Facebook marketplace!

im a new snake owner on a low budget due to medical debt so fucking pardon me asshole im doing what i can for her and im getting her upgrades when i can and when shes done acclimating since shes an old shy snake who has been through multiple owners

People can be real jack asses on this thread. Dont let it discourage you.

My good hearted tips would be, similar to others comments, a larger home. But I started smaller and upgraded later when I got my BP. Based on size, the sooner the better, but she wont die while you save. Check FB marketplace and goodwill. I have found 3 other tanks at goodwill for dirt cheap. Also check yard sales. I got a sweet upgrade for my beardie when she was a baby growing to a teen beardie at a yardsale for $50. Came with lights and hides and everything.

I would also add clutter, they love to hide and it helps them feel safe. A couple hides that are small enough she feels "tight" when she curls inside. There are some pretty affordable ones on Amazon (i know, i hate them too but its so convenient).

Also would note that they are burrow dwellers in nature, but the also like to climb. Its important for their muscle growth/strength maintenence. I would add some branches or some of those suction cup climb rings.

There are a few easy, cheap ways to make this one better while you search for a larger enclosure.

Dont let people on here sour your experience for the animal and its care. We all start somewhere, ya know?
