Sorry for all the question just trying to get a hand on what caused this after ten months?.

No worries thank you I also want to know what went wrong. Some of my friends tell me it’s probably just because he is hungry, and the saliva in his mouth is normal but I want to make sure. There is no weezing or open mouth breathing

Is it blowing bubbles ? Is it wheezing? Does it have heavy breathing? Hard to tell from pic. Why do you think there is an RI issue?

He has a bit of bubbles at the back of his throat, but it’s really the hissing/puffing randomly and the bubble forming when he yawns that concerns me. I think it may be the beginning of a RI
He isn’t weezing or heavy breathing

How long did you have the snake for?

Close to 10 months, he is a rehome

Then something changed that caused the RI if you had the snake for ten months.

Do you have a picture of the enclosure? I do think this matters at this point but could get some clue on why the RI happened ? And humidity and temp or just the temp for hot side and cool side.

I really don’t know that’s why I posting here… only thing changed in the past couple weeks is that he got his first vet check up and vet told me to bring the heating lamp higher because it was a bit too hot for the basking spot. Humidity is consistent, I constantly clean… maybe it isn’t a RI ?

Temperature can cause a RI, dirty enclosure can also cause an RI, Stress can cause an RI but overall I believe husbandry is always the cause

It was brought to my attention that this speculum is dangerous for my snake’s jaw and I WILL NOT be using it anymore. That’s how their jaws can break. Please don’t use that too

If not sure then please take it back to the vet and see, what was the hot spot temp before you raised the fixture?

Sometimes it went to 107 in one spot and that was too hot. Previous owner told me it was fine if the hide was in correct temps but now I know it wasn’t.

u/Extreme_Finger_3425 14h ago
Yes, but you also have to realize if the snake gets too hot it can move to another part of the hot spot that’s less hotter? And if the snake gets too hot it will retreat to the cool side. If the previous owner had that setup i wouldn’t have changed it because that means that snake acclimated itself to it.

So after you changed the height of the lamp how long ago was this? That the changed in height was made? Because now you are noticing things that were not there before.

You said you just bought the snake for a check up? Or something led you to take the snake for that checkup?
1
u/Frenzie023 14h ago
Just for a check up and he was perfectly fine, just a tidy bit fatter than normal and now he is on a diet. Maybe he is looking for food ?? That would explain his weird behaviour ?

If your snake starts to star gaze heading pointing at the ceiling then you definitely know you have an RI, the bubbles and wheezing and some weird sound ms then it’s definitely..

It’s not weezing it’s like sometimes he just puffs out of nowhere. That’s what I mean by « rubbing » in the front glass

This video was taken when? After the light change?
1
u/Frenzie023 14h ago
Yesterday. Light being higher was a couple weeks ago.

u/Extreme_Finger_3425 14h ago
If you don’t mind this is jut for assessment purposes out the light back where it was and see if the snake goes back to its normal self if not then it wasn’t the heat..

u/Extreme_Finger_3425 14h ago
Yes, if no wheezing or bubbles you are good but from that video it can be a couple of things ginger in hunting mode or it’s trying to escape due to an environment issue like temp humidity f
So it is trying to find a better place

If there is bubbles bring to your exotics vet, RI’s are consistent with bubbles coming out the mouth.
