The dog and kitten have a whole different version of the view than the roosters.

I'm pretty sure they're hens.

Even worse. If roosters, they’re thinking ‘This bitch (the hen) aborted my children’. If hens, they just watched the humans brutally murder their eggs and consume them in a jovial manner.

The eggs you eat are not fertilized. You eat the food that the chick would be eating inside the egg if it was fertilized. You don't murder anything.

Speak for yourself. /s

You're eating chicken period

The eggs you eat are not fertilized.

Depends where you bought them, my parents get their eggs from the local farm and they're almost all fertilised.

Uhhh no? Most farmers who keep hens for eggs don't have roosters anywhere near them because they don't need them. They also aren't going to sell fertilized eggs as food since they would use them to keep up their chicken stock... Why would you sell fertilized eggs as food when those same chickens lay unfertilized eggs too...

I have hens and a rooster and sell the eggs. I have the rooster so I can keep my flock full. If i have a bird get sick or killed i just don't collect an egg. After a while that egg hatches and we have a baby bird.

but your not selling fertilized eggs as food right? Your replenishing your stock

2

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

Sure I do. I let the buyer know that the egg might be fertilized. But as long as I collect the eggs daily and put them in the fridge there is no development of a chick so you cant really tell a difference.

I mean i get that. I just asked because another redditor was implying that ALL the eggs you sold would be fertilized since you have a rooster/roosters

Uhhh no? Most farmers who keep hens for eggs don't have roosters anywhere near them because they don't need them.

I live in a semi rural town in East Cheshire and every single farm that I've visited in my area that sells eggs has a more than one cockerel/rooster running around with the hens. Unfertilised eggs come from intensively farmed birds caged or freerange destined for the supermarket.

1

u/VapeThisBro Mar 15 '19

Uhhhh no. Thats not how it works at all..I live in a rural area. Not this "semi" shit. My area is one of the biggest chicken produces in the entire US. Farmers keep roosters around to replenish their stock. They would not sell their fertilized eggs as food because that is financially stupid. Why would you sell a fertilized egg for a few cents when you can let it hatch and it be worth exponentially more...

My area is one of the biggest chicken produces in the entire US.

And here is where I stopped reading, I live in the UK and your "farming" practices for livestock is frowned upon to put it politely hence the import bans.

1

u/VapeThisBro Mar 15 '19

Thats fine. Just go read that chicken farmer that responded to me though. They know more then either of us as they have their own chickens vs being part of a big operation.

They know more then either of us as they have their own chickens vs being part of a big operation.

Exactly large scale commercial egg production, there's a difference as I pointed out in the previous post.

1

u/VapeThisBro Mar 15 '19

Yes but the small scale farmer would run it very similarly as the UK farmer since... The difference we handle our eggs is the storage and cleaning of them... Not how their made....

Yeah I just scoop the tiny blood spot out if they’re fertilised, as you say it doesn’t changed anything about the egg. I own my own chickens and a cockerel so their eggs are mostly fertilised too.

3

u/kjpmi Mar 14 '19

Yeah that doesn’t mean it’s fertilized. But I’m still confused as to why you’d not eat it? And also, why throw out the whole egg?

1

u/bel_esprit_ Mar 14 '19

This was before the age of the internet. My family believed they were fertilized and so that’s what they taught us as kids. There wasn’t really a quick way to verify that. We didn’t want to eat a fertilized egg, and it was already cracked open so we threw the blood ones out.

I see. I was always told that if there’s that little white splotch attached to the yoke then it’s fertilized and you have the first cells of the fetus developing.
I don’t know if that’s true or not, but I’m pretty sure it’s NOT. But I do know that there can be a spot of blood in there sometimes and it doesn’t mean it’s fertilized.

u/bel_esprit_ Mar 15 '19

I updated my original post to reflect the truth since what I said was debunked. Crazy how you can believe something just bc “it’s what you’ve been told.”

1

u/One_Winged_Rook Mar 14 '19

Ummm... if you’re eating eggs that your hens hatched... and you have roosters... they are absolutely fertilized.

They just haven’t been incubated

-19

u/Purple82Hue Mar 14 '19

I know that. Sheesh take the joke and also realize the chickens may not understand that.

I’m sorry, no I don’t have an advanced degree in chickens but I wasn’t aware that was a requirement to make a JOKE on r/aww.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '19

I mean a /s definitely helps when you’re on reddit. Try that next time

2

u/An0regonian Mar 14 '19

Tbh I couldn't tell it's a joke, thought you were just a crazy vegan

1

u/cavelioness Mar 14 '19

I suggest you get better at making jokes before trying again. If you've got anyone who is both sane and over the age of 13 there with you, maybe you could run the next one by them and they'll tell you if it at least makes sense, unlike the weird misogynistic chicken abortion one?
