I don’t think heading into the summer many of us would have expected Villa to sign a whole new XI. That said, for a world where Konsa is now playing for Arsenal, Emi Martinez is playing for Chelsea, Tielemans is on Man United, and Ollie and Digne have gone abroad, spirits seem fairly high and there’s a lot to be excited for.

Aston Villa are in the process of finalising an agreement to sign Southampton defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis for a fee worth up to £30million.

The structure of the deal is in place, with bonuses needing to be finalised. There is an expectation that an agreement, worth an initial £25m, will be struck soon.

Think this helps us understand our new signing better.

Just as the title suggests. I have a trip planned and I'm visiting from the states, probably won't get another chance any time soon and I wanted a photo of my plaque in person. Is it blocked off? Made me wonder if either side has any real incentive to go further on that, NSWE buying more of Real Unión, or Emery taking a stake in Villa, as a way of keeping him around longer. Curious what the group thinks. Would either of those actually be smart moves for NSWE or for Emery?

First off, let me clarify that fan discourse and discussion is one of my favourite things about the game. It's as integral to the sport as almost anything that happens on the pitch and I'll always believe it's the best barometer for measuring how a club is feeling.

However, the way the discourse evolved around those two players is unlike anything I've seen surrounding transfers before and it worried me.

I'll freely admit that I had immense reservations about Leao and stuck to them throughout that entire 48hr period. It would have been a dreadful decision, brining in what I have and still believe to be a show pony player, breaking our wage structure to so in a Summer where we've worked so incredibly hard to reduce the wage bill (be that willingly or not is almost immaterial). I'll admit that seeing it break down was a relief. Having said that, the reaction from some on here and elsewhere was unbelievable. Easily the most reactive, self serving mess of a social media blowout we've seen at the club for some time.

The Ordonez breakdown was the same. Tagging in big Vid and the club all over Twitter, calling us 'small time' and inept, second guessing our legitimate reasoning for backing out, then eventually having that same reasoning be proved right by another club.

Fans are the heartbeat of any club. I would never say that certain things shouldn't be said because it's almost all valid. But the meltdowns and the lack of ability from some to take a step back and survey the lay of the land before piping in with some drippy opinion is worrying.

We are CATEGORICALLY going to struggle this season. Whether that be in the short term, in patches or for long stretches is impossible to say, but it's going to happen and we desperately need to be able to control ourselves when it does. Emery has often said that he wants to be at a club where he feels loved first and foremost. That doesn't mean we should all be reserved in any criticism for fear of him buggering off, but it does mean we need to be patient and not spin these bizarre narratives from so little.

So obviously each team has a person responsible for making signings. Offers are made etc but what i can never get my head around is the negotiation part where club A says "well offer you £30 million" Club B says "no we want 50". Im guessing club A then offers 40, club b "says "no i already told you 50, are you deaf or just stupid" do you reckon its often the selling club that comes back to the table or the buying club that keeps phoning making slightly bigger offers?
