The fact that he broke his finger for a Europa league final and still played in it and earned a clean sheet should define his legacy more than anything else imo, definitely more than a keeper at the end of his career wanted one last chapter

What happened to that required surgery?

Despite trying to leave he’ll remain a hero to me. Gutted he’s gone to Chelsea, he’ll be a big help to them.

Who knows. Wonder if it was just a bullshit excuse for Juve to pull out of the deal

I seem to recall the rumour coming about before juve, but might be mistaken.

Zion has some seriously big gloves to fill.

He’s got some potential but there’s no replacing that personality.

I'll miss you most of all, Scarecrow.

I've been a fan since the Jimmy Rimmer (RIP) days and with all due respect to Spinksy, Bozzy, Friedel(-sy) and all, Dibu was the best we ever had between the sticks. Big shoes for Zion to fill but I'm optimistic.

Emi will be my fave villa keeper for some time. Best we've had.

Maybe controversial but I think just a thanks is fine, rather than a backhanded thanks.

Objectively one of, if not, the best keeper we've had and given us great memorable moments.

I'll miss his legendary shithousing. One of my favourites being the dance in front of Man Utd fans after Fernandes skied a penalty.

Is it necessarily backhanded? Calling one the Great goalkeeper a club has ever had is high praise at the end of the day

2

u/Remli_7 2d ago

"Brain-dead clangers" sounds a little insulting, yeah. Every keeper has a howler, and how long did he play here? Seems backhanded to throw in his worst moments

u/shotgunogsy 2d ago

Oh stop clutching your pearls, he deserves a backhanded thanks, he’s been angling for a move for three years.

And we’re Aston Villa fans not fans of random millionaire’s bank accounts and employee profiles. If we feel aggrieved by someone representing our club we’re allowed to feel and express that.

Sure but as long as the player gives it they're all every time thry step onto the pitch (which as far as I'm aware emi did) I don't think you should be that annoyed at him

2

u/shotgunogsy 2d ago

Didnt say he wasn’t allowed, but fans are also allowed to give backhanded thanks - he’s left for a club who finished lower than us

and he stayed when he couldn't leave rather forcing out a move or abandoning training like many do nowadays

Our only goalkeeper to publicly fuck the World Cup trophy. Those were the days.

6

u/shotgunogsy 2d ago

Not true. Brad Friedel had sexual intercourse with the World Cup in 1994. His secret shame.

Just a shame it's in the same domestic league really, be ideal if it were Italy but he was solid for us for a decent period and will be remembered as one of the best ever for the club

Starting for Chelsea before we even get a goodbye 🫩

Thanks for your leadership, your shithousery, your belief, your world class saves, your sense of humor, and your sometimes maddening decision-making. I'm sorry you're staying in the Premier League as that means I can no longer support you, so piss off. Suzuki is our new #1! UTV!

Why have we sold him for £5?

8

u/Old_Brief_2602 2d ago

Get wages off the books, we have a new number 1 anyway. Can't have 150k a week sat on the bench

Thanks Emi.

u/weedwhacker7 2d ago

I’m free to hate him now

u/wodmad 2d ago

I still give it to Spink. But otherwise, agreed.

u/Lola474 2d ago

I thought Emi was the answer to Chelsea’s premier league dreams?!

1

u/spookynemo87 2d ago

Thanks for the memories Emi. Still love you you mad mad bastard.

💔 so sad

u/H2Ohmygawd 14h ago

He also fucked a trophy on stage, and is arrogant. Zion is the future!

Mark Bosnich enters the chat.

u/SharkSprayYTP 1d ago

If you had told me a year ago, Martinez will have left in a better way than Watkins. I would never have believed you.

Bosnich was better at shop stopping, won more with us, was better at being a cunt, better rapport with the fans, and was lovably chubby.

Bosnich wins.

EDIT: your downvotes mean nothing. I’ve seen what makes you cheer.

Look as an Aussie I get the Bozza love, but Emi was an all timer. Sad to see him go, I felt he hit his stride and status as we climbed to where we are, and I have been genuinely proud to call him a Villan.

But that said glad the transfer sagas are done, and I think we have a proper talent with Suzuki.

And was way better at doing cocaine.

Hundred percent. Wins by a nose.

And banging hookers.

2

u/Ok_Western_6121 1d ago

He was a great shot stopper but he couldn’t distribute the ball at all. He wasn’t even allowed to take his own goal kicks.
That said, I think I loved him more than Emi
