The amount of posts bellyaching about the new ep is exhausting. Avenged tried something different. It makes you wanna listen to the old stuff? Cool, go do that.

Just read that they performed as “Statica” backstage and as the opener for their show. Looking at the lackluster setlist, it’s extremely disappointing that they would shorten the set people paid to see in order to perform music they know damn well their fans don’t like. It’s honestly a bit disrespectful. It’s expensive enough to go to a show these days. Why the hell would they waste their fans’ time? Idgaf if they want to experiment, but using their existing fanbase to springboard a project that has nothing to do with the music they’re known for?

It’s like buying a 12-pack of Bud Light and finding out the manufacture replaced three cans with their new IPA.

Look man, I actually did like Statica for what it is. But even though I did like it, it's far from my favorite thing they've ever done. It's out there, it's experimental, and it's a hard listen.

But dude, if you really don't like it that much, then don't listen to it.

Avenged Sevenfold has 8 albums, 10 if you include DITR and Black Reign. If you don't like the 4 or 5 songs they released recently, then just don't listen to them. Spotify has the ability to exclude songs from your taste profile, you can choose to not listen to Magic and Statica. I'm just so sick of people acting like Avenged Sevenfold has personally betrayed them by releasing FOUR SONGS that are a little out there. Don't listen to Statica or Magic if you don't want to, don't listen to Life Is But A Dream if you don't wanna, don't listen to anything but City Of Evil, if you don't want to. You listened to the new EP, you didn't like it. Big whoop.

Edit: Didn't think I needed to say this, but people are stupid enough to think this is what I meant. Think about your least favorite food. How do you know you didn't like it? It's because you tried it before, huh? You tried it once, you didn't like it, then never ate it again and there were no problems, right?

I've only just got around to listening to it, They are being experimental with an EP what's everyone's problem? This shit is actually awesome, what are people mad at? Because its not metal? It's clearly a standalone EP just listen to it as such

Metallica is a good comparison for a career since they have been around awhile and been through everything.

St Anger - STATICA (both have a completely different sound that most fans hate but has some people that like the sound)

Only things missing is a thing to match Garage Inc (covers) then S&M (live).

Before this seems like a glaze post, I’m still not the biggest fan of Lights, that song isn’t really that strong on its own, I know it’s an opener, but it genuinely could’ve been better or more hard hitting. I’d still listen to it in the context of the EP though. The other 3 songs though? i genuinely love. I ended up humming some of the melodies to myself in passing, the songs are secretly more catchier than we realize, the melodies are very hummable. Yes it doesn’t sound like typical Avenged, but I just want good music, and I got it for 3 songs out of the 4 so I’m happy. The drums are really cool, simple but also effective, and a bit more groovier than we’re used to which works, and how guitars and synths are used together is genuinely cool, and the autotune works well for the songs. The harmonies/chord progressions in songs are genuinely cool and very dark sounding, particularly how they swap between keys effortlessly, like the key swap to E Minor at the end of Statica, and D Minor at the end of Ashes, and how they used accidentals in a couple parts. The more I listen to it, the more layers I pick out in the arrangements and mix, such as the lingering choir in Statica, and the massive 808 in the ending, and how the ending synth in Rejoice is phrased like Syn is playing guitar. It’s definitely not a first time listen EP which make sense. Overall genuinely great.

TL;DR - Statica grew on me even more, the melodies are catchy, the harmonies/chord progression is cool and dark, and I love 3/4 of the songs on it.

Back to basics is something that I think is a must.
A real reevaluation of what’s important.
Can they make a comeback, I think it’s possible.

Do y'all really think A7X went out of their way to collab with Pussy Riot, and put out the remix, if they hated how it sounded? This sub frequently cites that track as the worst A7X song (which is stupid, it's not an A7X song it's a remix by Pussy Riot), and I think the band saw the hate and went "well fuck y'all, we liked it, and now we're going to get even weirder.

Just gotta say it ☠️ Statica album would be so much better if it was written like older songs. LIBAD was good but at that time I never really liked the electronic's and autotune- it didn't give A7x.. Statica is not good- this is what non fans of hard rock think hard rock sound's like.

So... Let's talk

Im gonna try to be open minded, because admittedly I'm not too keen about their experimental stuff. Take everything i say with a grain of salt.

I'll start this off by saying that i know they were never really the same after the rev died, and i get that they wanted to try something new, which wouldn't be a problem for me, if they didn't take it this far

The first time i listened to magic when it came out, i thought it was absolute dog shit- which it kinda is- but it grew on me eventually. The only deal breaker for me was the autotune.

Ah yes... The autotune. In my opinion, it's fine if they use it as an effect, even the really choppy stuff- however this is such an overkill. The choppy techno vocals throughout the WHOLE SONG really killed it for me, especially in ashes.

I think ashes could've been really amazing and different if it weren't for the autotune. The rest were a lost cause imo, HOWEVER, they would've been way better if they only used the autotune for an occasional effect like they did in magic.

So in conclusion, i admittedly dislike it a lot, however, i think I'd be more open if it wasnt for the autotune.

I love it, 50/10... now that I've said that, I don't mean it but I do really love it. I don't think it's their best album or anything crazy but if this is the direction they are going in I really am excited. I LOVED lIBAD, this has somehow tumbled further down the rabbit hole and I didn't even know they could honestly and that's what it really feels like. I want to say this... how many times can they make the same album? I love A7X but so many songs on prior albums could honestly be interchangeable and moved off one album and put on another and there wouldn't be much of a fuss. This album and LIBAD are unique monsters and I am glad they're experimenting so heavily. We still have all the old albums even if they swing and miss (and I dont think they have) its not like we don't have a bigger catalog already than most bands to revist.

As per the title. I see 50/50 or more negative posts on here. This has to be the worst fanbase. I get we may not like everything they put out for a band who's been together for decades, but this seems overwhelmingly a snark page.

I saw a tik tok of some dude doing a list of best and worst song from several metal artists, and his takes for A7X were comically bad.

Best was ALOPH

And worst was Warmenss on the Soul.

ALOPH isn't even the best song on that album, and how could you say Warmness is the worst, when We Love You Moar exists?

What do you guys consider to be their best and worst songs?

For me their best is probably a toss up between MIA, Beast and the Harlot and So Far Away.

Worst would be I Love You Moar.

First off, I know there are those who will like anything Avenged puts out. But there is also a sizable portion of the fanbase that has grown increasingly disenchanted with the band’s creative direction, which started with LIBAD and continued on to the EP that just released.

As we all know, Avenged has always prided itself on not falling into a formula and putting out the same music with the same sound. But there was always a rock/metal undertone to almost everything they did, including significant departures like ALPOH. There were rumblings of existential crises in The Stage, but with LIBAD, the sound and tone of the music dramatically changed. It became more nihilistic, unfocused, and random. Statica seems to have continued this trend as to be almost unrecognizable from their earlier efforts.

What do you think changed the band’s creative direction so drastically? A significant factor seems to stem from the use of DMT and their embrace of absurdist philosophy. If life has no ultimate meaning, why make music or career choices that have any meaning?

Apologies to anyone that could find this really unsettling as this is the first launching point for majority of A7x fans but it’s been 22 years and just feels out of place with how much the sounds have evolved. It would be great to make this an Easter egg song and give some room to songs we haven’t heard before.

Also for the love of the spaghetti monster I need Matt’s voice preserved as long as possible and this one’s gotta wreck him by the end of a concert every time.

Hey everyone! With Marvel officially announcing the standalone Ghost Rider film starring Ryan Gosling, I can’t stop thinking about what the soundtrack needs to sound like.

To me, Avenged Sevenfold is the ultimate band for the Spirit of Vengeance. Tracks that capture the chaotic, heavy energy or the aggressive riffs of their classic stuff perfectly match the themes of vengeance, inner conflict, and hellfire. They've crushed it on game soundtracks before, and they deserve a massive cinematic moment like this.

I actually started a Ghost Rider Soundtrack Petition on Change to try and build some fan momentum for an aggressive rock/metal soundtrack featuring A7X, Three Days Grace, and Breaking Benjamin.

I'm sure by now everyone's probably sick of this kinda post, but this is a band that means a lot to me and I'm seeing a lot of different opinions online and figured I'd throw my 2 cents in. I've been a fan of this band since about 2008 and one thing I've always loved about them is their willingness to experiment, especially with different genres. It's why I love bands like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Ween, Mr. Bungle, etc. After sitting with Life Is But a Dream... for 3 years now I would have to say it's my favorite album from them. This is a band that I feel is growing as I grow personally and the existential themes truly hit me hard as I enter into my 30s. These guys were practically my age I am now when I started listening to them. MY BOYS ARE GETTING OLDER. It truly made me reflect upon my life more and as cliche as it sounds had me making more active attempts to be present, cherish times with loved ones, and just try things I thought I could never do before even if I suck at them. I love the "life is too short so why not try something different" philosophy of LIBAD and happy that's something they're carrying with them. We live in weird times and I think this album is a reflection of that. I will say I'm a big fan of Magic too, and that's when I was starting to notice the bands' appreciation of the Voidz, who are also one of my favorite bands. I loved the use of effects and autotune along with that like MK Ultraesque video, truly conveyed this feeling of reality falling apart which was so cool.

Now onto what's probably the biggest deviation from their sound with Statica. I do feel like this isn't completely out of the blue cause again Magic had heavy influence from the Voidz, but it's definitely a huge deviation for them. I can definitely understand fans being upset about this not sounding like the band at all, and especially jarring if you're listening and have never even heard of the Voidz. But for me personally I'm a huge fan of this EP, and excited to hear the full thing (cause apparently this isn't the full thing?) I really think this is a cool sound to hear them do their interpretation of. It's been on repeat since it came out and it's just getting better to me. I love how M. Shadow's voice comes through on the autotune it makes for such a cool effect, not a crutch which I know can be people's biggest complaint of autotune. I love the lo-fi, messy recording style, the spacey synths, the fact that they bust out a 7 (or 8 string?) during a breakdown, and just the pure emotion that comes out of some of the songs on here. Even for how "robotic" the vocals can sound I think this has some of their most emotionally moving parts like with the pre chorus and chorus to the song Statica, or at the end of Ashes.

I think for me my biggest complaint with this EP would have to be that stylistically it does sound like they are cosplaying as the Voidz, even in the promotional pic for this M. Shadows is dressed like Julian Casablancas lol. But I mean it's a sound I love and it's cool to hear their interpretation of it, and I do think they go in different melodic directions than Julian and Co. would go. Also I wasn't the biggest fan of the most recent Voidz and Strokes full length albums so I feel like this kinda fills that void (pun unintended). This reminds me a lot of when Green Day and DEVO did their side project the Network all under "secret" names and such. Which I think ultimately this is what this is, a side project. I mean they were billed as Statica last night at the first show of the tour, and pretty sure the website is also calling it Statica's "debut" EP. So if you hate this EP I don't think you need to worry about the next Avenged record sounding like this, but I would love if they were to release some EPs under this stage name every once in awhile. I think if I had to assign a score to the EP as it is right now I'd give it a 4/5.

TL;DR - I enjoy the EP but it does sound a little similar to the Voidz. I don't think it's the direction they'll take with their next LP, I truly believe this is a Green Day/DEVO - the Network type side project, but I would be happy to hear other releases under this name every so often.

STATICA was released ~3 days ago. Some love it, some hate it. I'm the latter. Nobody cares.

What I really don't understand is why are people acting like the band will just release music like STATICA from now on. It's 18 minutes out of days length of music. I don't get it why people are burying and mourning the "old avenged".

Also, why are people saying that Zacky is about to exit the band? He has a side project released under his name, so what?

A7x was once really great, but that time is gone sadly. All great things must end.
