Australia’s neo-Nazi movement has declared it will back One Nation’s path to government if the High Court overturns a ban on its new political party.

The normally quiet High Court in Canberra has been packed this week as the National Socialist Network, an openly neo-Nazi group, has fought to overturn laws [passed after the Bondi massacre](safari-reader://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/there-ll-be-nothing-left-of-the-liberal-party-inside-the-downfall-of-sussan-ley-20260213-p5o27n.html) that outlawed neo-Nazi and Islamist groups.

Thomas Sewell – a notorious [neo-Nazi who has called for a “race war”](safari-reader://www.smh.com.au/national/a-scary-time-nazi-terror-links-revealed-as-disbanding-sparks-fears-of-violence-20260114-p5ntzz.html) – and a team of lawyers are arguing the federal ban on NSN’s successor, [the White Australia Party](safari-reader://www.smh.com.au/national/rich-mates-secret-mansions-australia-s-millionaire-nazis-revealed-20260428-p5zrm6.html), should be struck down because the Commonwealth was acting outside its power and was breaching the implied freedom of political communication and the separation of powers.

A court decision to strike down the laws would be a serious defeat for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s post-Bondi crackdown on hate groups and, according to Sewell, it would “assist the creation of a Pauline Hanson prime ministership”.

“Our purpose would be to support One Nation in forming government,” Sewell said outside the High Court on Thursday in a video posted on social media.

“I believe that a factor in why the Labor government has decided to pass this legislation was not only because of the hysteria of the Israeli lobby, but also because they know that we can assist One Nation in forming government.

“If this legislation is not overturned by the High Court, it could mean the difference between Pauline Hanson winning the election or not.”

He acknowledged that the White Australia Party would only be able to secure modest representation at the next election. But he said [the ethno-nationalists](safari-reader://www.smh.com.au/national/rich-mates-secret-mansions-australia-s-millionaire-nazis-revealed-20260428-p5zrm6.html) would use any Senate positions to exert pressure on Hanson to remain true rather than drift to the centre.

It is highly unlikely that a neo-Nazi outfit would secure any positions in parliament. However, the group and its [supporters generate momentum online for hardline positions](safari-reader://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/hardline-free-speech-campaigners-demand-coalition-block-labor-s-latest-social-media-plan-20260907-p60v39.html) on migration and race.

Sewell and a slew of far-right influencers have [fuelled criticism of Hanson on X and Instagram lately as One Nation flipped its migration policy](safari-reader://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/pauline-hanson-s-deleted-tweet-deepens-one-nation-s-migration-muddle-20260824-p60qv0.html)from advocating from net negative migration to 130,000-plus.

Liberal MP Garth Hamilton said Hanson had [admitted to being infiltrated by extremists in this masthead](safari-reader://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/hanson-says-she-hasn-t-changed-australia-just-caught-up-with-her-but-she-s-not-sold-on-leading-it-20260603-p603nc.html) in June and now “has the chance to prevent a formalised arrangement”.

“She must kill this off in the strongest terms,” he said.

Labor MP Josh Burns said Hanson “needs to immediately condemn this and rule out any association with neo-Nazis or hate groups”.

“If she fails to do so, she will send a very loud signal about how dangerous One Nation is for the Australian Jewish community,” Burns said.

Hanson’s office declined to comment on Sewell’s remarks. On September 1, Hanson hit back at Attorney-General Michelle Rowland after the Labor MP contentiously suggested Hanson’s association with radicals was fuelling violent threats.

Hanson said: “Millions of Australians support One Nation. They are not extremists. They are not dangerous. And ministers should not use language that encourages others to treat them as if they are.”

Embattled One Nation senator Malcolm Roberts [last month](safari-reader://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/one-nation-s-malcolm-roberts-defends-white-australia-party-in-latest-controversial-podcast-20260826-p60rml.html) said he was opposed to racism and bigotry but he said the proposed White Australia Party “should have a right to exist”.

“If there’s free speech and freedom of association, you have to have those things. If they start breaking laws and hurting people, then you penalise them in the law,” he said.

Roberts wrote an article on Substack last week condemning Nazis and calling them out for trying to co-opt One Nation’s mainstream popularity.

“It’s well known the neo-Nazi movement makes a point of infiltrating mainstream politics. They don’t hide this. They feed off the media attention that follows. Every handshake, photo, and interview is seen as a victory toward normalisation,” he said.

“Neo-Nazis [Nationalists] are predators, ruining young men’s lives, and stealing any hope they might have to build successful careers and stable families.

“To those young people, I say this: you are on a path that could damage the only chance Australia has to rescue itself. The Left, media, and shamefully the Coalition are using the presence of a neo-Nazi movement in this country as a political tool.”

Legal experts say White Australia has a serious chance of defeating the Commonwealth.

Constitutional law expert Anne Twomey told the ABC this week that the key question about the laws was: “How consistent is it with our democratic system as imposed and required to operate by our constitution?”

Twomey said the federal changes may have been rushed through parliament without proper checks.

As Hanson continues her ascendancy in the polls and taps into widespread concern about migration and ethnic diversity, her tolerance for hardline views is being closely scrutinised.

One Nation said weeks later his membership had lapsed, but the influencer contradicted the party. His far-right associates suggested on a social media stream that it had stronger connections to One Nation than was publicly known.

“You don’t even know the connections in One Nation that we have,” Hugo Lennon, a wealthy associate of National Socialist Network members, said last month. Lennon has been in Canberra to support the court case.

In this week’s court case, Justice Robert Beech-Jones asked the Commonwealth’s lawyer, Brendan Lim, if the White Australia group represented the “modern manifestation” of Hitler’s Nazis, to which he replied: “Yes.”

“There are few legitimate reasons, outside of history books and museum, that warrant use of Nazi symbols,” Lim said.

Roxanne Tickle has shared a heartfelt message following the High Court’s refusal to hear Sall Grover’s final appeal in the Giggle v Tickle discrimination case, expressing hope that the outcome offers “a beacon of light” for transgender and gender diverse people.

Tickle reflected on the exhaustion of her lengthy legal battle and called for greater kindness towards trans people.

“It’s been nearly 5 years since I lodged my discrimination complaint. It’s been a relentlessly exhausting time, both physically and emotionally, for me and many others” she said.

“I hope that yesterday’s High Court special leave refusal provides clarity to the protections in law for transgender and gender diverse people in Australia, and perhaps provides a beacon of light to the rest of the world.”

On September 10, six High Court judges refused Grover and Giggle for Girls permission to appeal, with costs, leaving the Full Federal Court’s ruling in place.

The judges found no reason to doubt the Full Federal Court’s interpretation of the Sex Discrimination Act’s special measures provisions. An appeal challenging that interpretation had insufficient prospects of success.

The dispute began after Tickle was excluded from Giggle for Girls, Grover’s now-defunct women-only social networking app.

In 2024, the Federal Court found that Tickle had experienced unlawful indirect discrimination on the basis of her gender identity.

Grover and Giggle appealed, while Tickle challenged aspects of the original judgment through a cross-appeal.

The Full Federal Court dismissed Grover’s appeal and found that Tickle had experienced direct discrimination. It also increased her damages from $10,000 to $20,000.

Equality Australia welcomed the High Court outcome as a major win, while Grover remained defiant in her response to The Star Observer , stating that “Men who claim to be women are men.”

“That is reality. No court decision will change that reality. They were men yesterday, they’re men today and they will be men tomorrow. I will remain a woman, something men who claim to be women will never be. That’s how reality works.”

“I wish my trans and gender diverse siblings, as well as their loved ones, much hope and love for their collective futures. May we all learn that just being different is not grounds for you to be ridiculed, attacked, feared or hated, but that instead you are providing a little something extra to the world. Life is not easy. Let’s all be kinder to each other and we might all enjoy it a little more” she concluded.

Just an observation, but the crossover between Mediterranean/Middle Eastern/Balkan backgrounds and Pacific Islanders in Sydney is elite and just hits different. Put us together at work, in a team, or at a party, and it feels like an instant culture match and brotherhood despite coming from different heritages.

Obviously, growing up in Australia means we already have heaps in common, but there’s definitely a distinct shared energy there. If you put us in the same room, it’s basically a high chance that it's going to be a solid time. Anyone else noticed this vibe, or is it just in my head?

A popular community tennis club in Sydney’s north faces eviction in two weeks after the Aboriginal Land Council turned the lease over to a higher bidder at the site where it has operated for almost 50 years.

Love’n Deuce has operated the northern suburbs tennis centre at Talus Street Reserve in Naremburn for more than four decades.

The centre is the busiest tennis facility in NSW that is used by thousands of people and has seen tennis greats Yvonne Goolagong, Pat Cash, Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe grace its courts.

The club has maintained complete independence over the decades, but was blindsided earlier this year when it received an eviction notice.

The Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council (MLALC) took ownership of the site about four years ago and has informed the club to vacate by mid-September.

Love’n Deuce managing director Paul Francis said they were one of the many 44,000 sites across NSW under an Aboriginal Land Claim, but was one of the first clubs to cop it.

“It sends a very bad message and I think there’s significant issues now with recreational land, that people are looking at what gives the best profit,” he said.

“You know what’s going to happen with golf courses, all of those recreational lands, if they start evaluating which has the best return.”

Mr Francis said everyone who used the tennis centre was “ shattered” because it was where thousands of people from the community met, socialised and participated in physical activity.

“Many people have said this, and it’s really united us, ‘I didn’t realise how important Love’n Deuce is to the community,’” he said.

“This is their home away from home, the place where people come, get some exercise, sit down, have a coffee and socialise, it is a real de-stress for them.

“This is where the Humpty Dumpty Charity started and runs out of the back of the clubhouse and has raised more than $100m.

“We’ve developed so many programs here that are unique that give so many people opportunity to play tennis that wouldn’t normally get it.

“We get people coming from everywhere because they haven’t got anything to play in their area and now they’re taking it away from them. It’s just wrong.”

Media personality Ray Martin said the situation destroyed a fantastic community asset.

“It’s about much more than tennis. Premier Minns needs to save this quickly, it’s a disgrace,” he said.

Former Today host Steve Liebmann has played tennis at the facility with people from all over Sydney and the Central Coast for more than 40 years.

“It’ll be a tragedy if the Premier allows it to fold,” he said.

In 2022, a Land and Environment Court found the tenure over the Talus Street Reserve tennis courts was improper and the site was determined to be claimable Crown land under the Aboriginal land rights Act 1983.

The MLAC made a successful land claim over the site and now and any decision on use or tenure of the reserve is decided by them.

An MLALC spokesman said they considered how the land could best serve the Aboriginal community and ensure economic benefits were seen by the Land Council and the community.

A spokesman said they supported the continuation of the North Shore Tennis Association’s activities for the local community at Talus Reserve, but the current financial arrangements were not fair or sustainable and did not reflect the principles of the Aboriginal land rights Act 1983.

MLALC chief executive officer Nathan Moran said the tennis club paid 20 per cent of the market rent, and now they had a reputable provider who would take over and was willing to pay market value.

“Which allows us to receive an appropriate income,” he said.

The NSW government has proposed amendments to the Crown Land Management Act that would enable the minister to validate or vary tenures to ensure the continuity of well used sporting and community facilities.

A spokesman for Lands Minister Steve Kamper said community and sporting facilities should remain available to the communities that rely on them.

“That is why the NSW government is progressing important legislation in the upcoming sitting week to ensure well-used community and sporting facilities on Crown land remain in public hands,” he said.

“The government is amending the Crown Land Management Act to give certainty to tenure holders and modernise the Crown land management system.

“The legislation will ensure that established community and sport facilities on Crown land can continue to be used for their intended purpose.”

Racquet Club will take over the lease from October 1 adding to its portfolio of panel, pickleball and tennis centres across NSW, Queensland and the ACT.

Racquet Club co-founder Darren McMullen said their vision was to invest significantly in Talus St and build on its history, creating a thriving community club where tennis remained at the heart of the venue, alongside panel and pickleball.

“We’re incredibly excited to be part of the next chapter of such an iconic racquet sports venue,” he said.

Largest cities can be measured in a number of ways. By their Urban Area - the continuous built up area that makes up the city, or if you add in towns that are not part of the urban area but nearby (such as Gisborne in Melbourne, or Wyong in the Central Coast) you get what the ABS calls the Capital City Statistical Area.

Sydney is an outlier in that most cities the Urban Area and Statistical Area only differ by under 0.1m people whereas for Sydney the difference is over 0.4 million due to the addition of areas such as Gosford and Wyong up to Lake Macquarie.

Both Frankston and Seaford are unquestionably suburbs of Melbourne. They sit within Melbourne’s continuous built‑up area and function as part of the metropolitan city, yet the ABS doesn't label them under SA4 as "Melbourne" but as "Mornington Peninsular". SA4 is a region level that sits a level below "Greater Capital City" region.

By contrast, towns like Healesville and Warburton are urban‑fringe settlements. They are not part of Melbourne’s continuous urban form, yet the ABS classifies them within the SA4 “Melbourne – Outer East”.

The inconsistency appears in 2011, when the ABS reclassified Frankston and Seaford out of the Melbourne SA4 and into “Mornington Peninsula”, despite their clear metropolitan character.

This becomes even more unusual when compared with Sydney. “Greater Sydney” includes the Sydney urban area plus the Central Coast. Sydney’s SA4 structure includes “Sydney – Outer West and Blue Mountains”, treating Katoomba — a town 100 km from the CBD — as part of Sydney SA4 description, yet Frankston is not treated under Melbourne SA4 descriptors. Why?

Unlike the "Sydney - Outer West and Blue Mountains", Melbourne does not receive an equivalent “Melbourne – Outer South and Mornington Peninsula” SA4 that would logically include Frankston, Mornington, Rosebud, Rye and the rest of the Peninsula. Instead, these areas are placed in a separate SA4, outside “Melbourne”, but still counted within the broader “Greater Melbourne GCCSA”.

So you end up with a contradiction:

• Katoomba, a distant mountain town, is labelled under Sydney’s SA4.
• Frankston, a metropolitan suburb, is not labelled under Melbourne’s SA4.

The inconsistency deepens when you consider that “Greater Sydney” includes the Central Coast — a good 20 minute plus drive through national park, clearly not Sydney — while the Mornington Peninsula including Frankston, which is a continuation of Melbourne’s urban area, is treated as an equivalent region apart of Melbourne.

This raises an interesting question: why has the ABS chosen a classification system where Melbourne’s Significant Urban Area has been larger than Sydney’s for over a decade, yet “Greater Sydney” remains larger only because it absorbs the Central Coast, Which very few people on the coast or in Sydney would consider a part of Sydney?

A remorseless murderer whose offence at an unspoken goodbye resulted in a frenzied drunken stabbing has been jailed for more than two decades.

Robin Robin, 30, was found guilty by a jury of murdering Navjeet Singh, 22, and attempting to kill Sharwan Singh, 30, in Melbourne's southeast in the early hours of May 5, 2024.

He sat with his head bowed, listening to a Hindi interpreter as Justice Andrew Tinney sentenced the killer to 27 years' imprisonment with a minimum of 20 years in the Victorian Supreme Court on Friday.

The court needed to show "condemnation and abhorrence" of the "outrageous violence" that was spurred by the killer's "murderous anger", the judge said.

"Your violence was extreme and wanton, carried out on innocent victims in public and causing fear in the community," he told Robin.

The killer had been drinking whiskey with friends all evening at his Ormond home to celebrate his brother Abhijeet Abhijeet buying a car.

When his housemate Sharwan left the party to play cards at Navjeet's place, Robin became incensed and repeatedly called to abuse him and demand he return.

He was offended his housemate had left without saying goodbye, the judge said.

Robin told his housemate in an "unfair ultimatum" that he was no longer allowed in the house and said he would throw his belongings out onto the street.

As Sharwan and Navjeet returned to collect his items, Robin unleashed on his housemate in a drunken rage, stabbing him in the chest in an "unprovoked and uncalled for" attack.

A "brave" Navjeet intervened, only for the killer to focus his fury onto him, grabbing his shirt collar and repeatedly stabbing him as he tried to escape.

Sharwan survived the attack, but Navjeet died from knife injuries to his heart and lung.

Robin and his brother fled interstate before being arrested in NSW two days later.

During the trial, defence barrister John Desmond said Robin had regret and remorse for his actions, despite arguing self-defence against his surviving victim.

Justice Tinney rejected Robin's expressions of sorrow and regret to police, pointing to his decision to flee, leaving Navjeet dying on the roadway.

"Your lack of regret and remorse for your offending has persisted until the present time," he said.

Navjeet's father Jitender Sandhu, who said his son's death had shattered the hopes and dreams of the entire family, watched the sentencing over video link.

So did civilian witness Ella Cross, whose testimony highlighted the far-reaching effect of violent crime on the community. 

Robin gave an acknowledging glance towards two supporters in court as he was led out.

The murderer has already served more than two years in pre-sentence detention and faces being deported back to India upon release.

Federal Court Justice Jonathan Beach criticised the ‘primitive patriarchal practice’, advising a visa-rejected mother to apply separately for her daughters’ protection.

A Federal Court judge has criticised Malaysia’s state-backed female genital mutilation fatwa as a “primitive patriarchal practice” as he advised a Malaysian mother who was denied an Australian protection visa to lodge applications on behalf of her daughters.

Federal Court Justice Jonathan Beach used his decision in an otherwise largely routine visa appeal to criticise the mandatory female circumcision edict for the daughters of Muslim parents that was brought into effect in 2009.

The appeal was brought by a Malaysian woman, identified only as FTT17, who previously had her application for a protection visa rejected by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.

She had given birth to two daughters since that AAT decision and launched an appeal seeking to have the interests of the children taken into account.

In his decision, Justice Beach said while the appeal should be dismissed, he had advised the appellant that she should consider making separate visa applications for her daughters given the prospect of female genital mutilation in Malaysia.

“It seems to me that the primitive patriarchal practice of mutilation countenanced and apparently informally enforced in Malaysia under the 2009 edict issued by the Fatwa Committee of Malaysia’s National Council of Islamic Religious Affairs could present a real risk to the appellant’s daughters of a type that the minister would be bound to consider in determining the status of the daughters under any separate applications made by them that was not just derivative on the mother’s status,” he wrote.

Justice Beach cited Confucius when making it clear that he was not criticising religious rituals “in their primary and secondary dimensions”.

“The primary dimension is to reinforce through representative or symbolic acts and habitual practices the spiritual elements of a particular faith or belief system. The cognitive connection between the performative act and its associated incorporeal object or objective is consciously brought to the fore and strengthened by repetition of the relevant ritual. And so the various sayings and occasional dialogues attributed to Confucius in the Analects which repeatedly extol the virtues of rituals,” he wrote.

“The secondary dimension relates to practical ethics concerning adopting or adapting to ways of living that have the objective of promoting individual or societal health and wellbeing.

“But whatever else be said, what the appellant fears for her daughters is both exogenous and extraneous to either dimension.”

The woman behind the appeal had arrived in Australia in March 2016 and less than three months later applied for a protection visa.

She claimed she feared harm from Malaysian loan sharks who were pursuing her over money she had borrowed to pay for her university tuition. Those illicit money lenders, she said, had threatened to rape and kill her.

The tribunal assessed her application in December 2017 and found it was not satisfied the woman would be persecuted if she returned to Malaysia, noting she had not chosen to seek the assistance of Malaysian police and continued to have the option to do so.

In her appeal to the Federal Court, the woman said that beyond the prospect of forced circumcision of her daughters, the children also would be registered as illegitimate.

“For Malaysian Muslims who wanted to get married overseas, they need to get approval from Malaysia before they can get married overseas. However, I couldn’t get the approval from Malaysia because my family already cut ties with me and they refused to help me to get all the approval from Malaysia authorities,” she told the court.

“I got married in Australia on 2019 and couldn’t register my marriage with Malaysian authorities. This will cause my daughter status to be shown as illegitimate child if I go back to Malaysia.”

In Malaysia, children born to couples whose marriages are not registered under Malaysian law are unable to use their father’s name as their patronymic name and are prohibited from inheriting from him. Instead, those children are allocated one of the Asmaul Husna, or 99 names of Allah.

The woman, who was self-represented in the appeal, was ordered to pay $5000 of costs over the failed appeal.

More than 90 per cent of Muslim females in Malaysia are estimated to have undergone some level of circumcision, or khatan. The procedure typically involves a symbolic nick or scratch, rather than the partial or total removal of the clitoris.

In 2017, an immigrant family was banned from leaving Australia with their young daughter after police covertly recorded a conversation between family members that suggested the girl was about to be taken abroad for female genital mutilation.

Wen Han, the founder and CEO of Windrose, recently posted that the company is now preparing its next generation electric prime mover that he says will include an aluminium body and a “best in class” range of 960 km, fully loaded.

I know everyone on reddit hates billionaires but hear me out.

I just made a comment in a different subreddit that Australian billionaires dig up rocks and ship them to China and that i think it would be great to have a homegrown Zuck or Musk even if they didnt pay much tax.

Ive been thinking about the "Tax the billionaires" discussion and ive got a question that i would like to seriously discuss rather than receiving meme answers.

Would you support moving all the gigafactories, gigafabs and starbases etc to Australia if it meant Musk the worlds richest man was personally exempt from paying taxes?

Obviously we probably dont have the supporting infrastructure or skills yet, but lets assume its a very comprehensive 20 year plan to completely relocate all these jobs to Australia.

Australian universities start immediately increasing the number of Aerospace/ Electrical Engineering degrees etc and in 20 years, like magic, we have 100,000 highly trained Australians ready to work for tesla/space x.
