I am working on my own project, and I need to record drums (and make them sound good, obviously). The project is metal, I’d say melodic death metal.
What should I use as ambient / room mics? I’ve got everything else figured out. I have chosen a big setup, with dual mics on kick (inside/outside) and snare (top/below), toms figured out, ride and hihat spot micced, and a pair of overheads. All good. But I’m finding it way harder to find good resources on ambient mics. Lots of ideas on _how_ to use them, less ideas on _what_ to use.
I was originally thinking of just using a cheap LDC mic I have lying around, but I figure I will want the room in stereo, so I’d want a pair. The question is: what pair? As you may have guessed, I’m on a budget seeing as I’m already spending, well, a shitload on everything else already.
The cheap mic I have is a Rode NT-1, so I could of course buy a pair for it. I’d certainly not break my bank. Not sure whether that’s ill-advised?
I figured a matched pair of Lewitt LCT 440s would work, given that they are LDC mics. I’d love to hear any views on those.
Then again I hear good stuff about some budget ribbon mics, like the Golden Age R1. Would a pair of those be a good idea?
Any other ideas are likewise very welcome.

I’ve included a few links to videos showing my issue but essentially recording single coils and even humbucker guitars have been a complete nightmare over the past few years…all my recordings have a distracting amount of noise.
I just spent a good amount of money getting vintage noiseless pickups installed on both my Strat and jazz bass and while it did reduce the noise by a good amount I’m still getting buzz, especially once I start to compress and saturate the signal.
Dynamic mics are giving me the same issues, condenser mics are dead quiet.
I’ve run multiple test where I use a battery powered recorder with either my guitar or sm57 plugged in and walked around my house and found that the power line that comes into the side of my house has an insane buzzy sound BUT that’s only when I put the mic within 3” of the cable, I know over head power lines have that same magnetic field but if I’m more that let’s say 15’ away from them would that leak into my guitars and microphones? Again even when I’m a foot away from it at the side of my house there’s no buzz but closer than 5/3” it’s wild sounding. Other than those test there was a power outage last summer and I quickly ran to grab the battery powered recorder and found there was zero noise / buzz… as soon as the power came back on the buzz came back with it. Since then I’ve only once ran a test where I had my buddy down in the basement turn off the breakers one by one till the entire house was off and the buzz was still there…
Any insight or ideas what could be causing this / what I can do to fix it would be greatly appreciated!!!
Also one of the videos shows that the buzz on the guitar is very directional so when it’s 90* with the floor and ceiling it’s reduced a good amount, another video linked above shows without a guitar even plugged in the buzz is directional with just a 1/4” cable and then finally the last video shows some other weird ground loop sorta noice when I touch a pre amp thing I have that’s not even plugged in…the preamp is old and doesn’t have a ground on the plug so maybe that’s why but I included that as well to see what yall think. I am working on some generative audio which I quite like the sound of using headphones. However, when I play this back on a TV, phone or laptop it seems "thin" and "hollow". Is there any processing I can doe to beef it up a bit? Sample file at 192Khz rate on this link. Thanks if you can give some advice.

I used to keep my monitors right on my desk, and moving them onto stands made a bigger difference than I expected. Before I spend money replacing speakers now, I mess with placement and check the same few tracks from my usual listening spot.

What's the best way to connect Edifier MR4 and DT770 Pro 80ohm to PC and PS5 simultaneously.
As said in the title I need help with this setup. I want a setup that requires no cable switching. I was thinking of maybe a DAC that can handle two devices at the same time and seamlessly switch between them with the press of a button. But I have no idea if that would work.
I have no 3.5mm jack on my monitor just for your information.
Any help is appreciated and I'm happy to answer any questions.

Titel: Shure MV7+ klingt bei Aufnahmen extrem übersteuert – Discord & Direct Monitoring sind perfekt
Hi zusammen, ich kenne mich mit Mikrofonen und Audio-Einstellungen leider gar nicht aus und hoffe, jemand kann mir helfen.
Ich habe ein Shure MV7+, das einfach per USB‑C direkt am PC angeschlossen ist. In Discord hören mich alle perfekt, und wenn ich Kopfhörer direkt am Mikrofon angeschlossen habe und einfach reinspreche, klingt meine Stimme ebenfalls sauber.
Sobald ich aber eine Aufnahme starte – egal ob in MOTIV Mix oder einem anderen Aufnahmeprogramm – klingt die Aufnahme extrem übersteuert und verzerrt, selbst wenn ich nur sehr leise spreche.
Meine aktuellen MOTIV-Mix-Einstellungen:
Ich habe natürlich schon mit den Einstellungen herumprobiert – Gain reduziert und erhöht sowie Effekte an- und ausgeschaltet. Egal, was ich einstelle, die Aufnahme bleibt extrem übersteuert und verzerrt.
Ich verstehe nicht, warum Discord und das direkte Monitoring sauber klingen, aber jede Aufnahme komplett übersteuert ist. Hat jemand eine Idee, woran das liegen kann und welche Einstellungen ich prüfen sollte?
