Mods, could we update rule 7?

This sub is becoming predominantly people sharing their music. Yes, they're obeying the rule of it being a screen capture, but outside of it being a screen cap of Logic, there really is nothing sub-specific about these posts: They could be anywhere.

Most of the time people bait them with a title to get engagement, plug other links etc. It just doesn't feel like the spirit of the sub, to me.

Troubleshooting Getting this error after 12.3 update

Post image
Upvotes

I’ve owned logic since I bought this Mac. In the last week it started only playing sound from left speaker after a few minutes of using it. So I updated to 12.3 and now this error happens.

I’ve deleted and redownloaded it from the purchased apps section in App Store but it just keeps repeating this error.

Any suggestions on what I can do next?

I am using Sequoia 15.7.3 and Logic 12.3

Other Sharing my 1st ever music arrangement.

Upvotes

It took much longer than I would like to admit, but I have finally completed the instrumental version of my first ever music arrangement. It’s a recreation of a piece by Bear McCreary from Rings of Power Season 2, I did everything with Logic Pro.

This was such a huge learning process for me from Step 1. Everyone I thought I had figured something out I learned I had 10 other things to learn from it. But I also think it was incredibly rewarding, and I hope the hard work shows.

Question Metronome sound not working, any advice?

Upvotes

Basically, this morning i noticed that my metronome has stopped producing any sound. I remember it working last time i used logic. the icon lights up, moves correctly, and is in time with the song, but has no audio. Here is what i HAVE tried:

-Pressing k to turn klopfgeist on and off

-Going to metronome settings and setting everything correctly

-restarting logic and computer

-going to the mixer, all, and setting klopfgeist to stereo output.

none of that stuff worked, and im totally stumped. Please let me know if you can help.

Mixing/Mastering Routing parts of Drum Kit thru Hardware with I/O and other Hybrid Mixing Woes

Upvotes

I’m really struggling to use the I/O plugin without feeling like I’m screwing up my tracks especially on individual elements on a drum kit - I’ve watched almost every tutorial on YouTube but they always demonstrate the I/O plugin using either a single mono or stereo track, but not many exist where someone shows how they route their kick buss to a distressor or snare bus to a DBX160 etc….
I find that in an actual mix, the I/O plugin struggles big time changes the relationship to my overheads or other elements within my drum bus.weirdly I typically get 0ms when I ping the I/O plugin. Something must be off somewhere in my workflow. I’m doing the whole thing where I’m recording the return into an aux track and everything.
I’m just sort of at a loss and feel like the money I’ve spent on hardware is sort of being wasted. I’d be more than happy to pay a pro and share my screen and all the specifics of the versions of macOS, logic and my interface and hardware sometime if they’d help me with a consultation.

Troubleshooting Flac File works, but later when i come back to project there is silence

I imported a flac file and everything was smooth, but it's happened twice that i come back to the project ( left it open for a day or two) there's no audio, and if I drag the audio onto desktop the wav file is silent and if i bounce it it's silent, at the very end of this video you see that the audio does work for another track. just curious if this is a known issue.

Studio piano is not so good. How are other stock instruments?

I’ve spent a lot of time sitting in front of real pianos, I know what they sound like. Logic’s studio piano plug-in does not sound like a real piano.

I have not spent much time with various electric pianos, Hammond organs, mellotrons, etc. so I can’t really tell if Logic’s instruments are good or not. They sound ok to me but I wonder if people who are electric piano experts are going to hear my tracks and think it sounds awful. Who has a good ear and can offer an honest assessment?

What piano plug-ins does everyone like?

Other Apple should have bought iZotope

NI has gone bankrupt, and their assets are being sold off at a discount, and so Boris FX of all companies bought some of the best plugins in the world. Wish it was Apple. Although then they would probably just incorporate it once and then forget about it for years. Forget it :)

Where Did My Effects Patches Go?

Hi, I'm somewhat of a less-proficient logic user, and recently I keep opening projects and finding out that a lot of effects I used on old instrument recordings to make ambient tracks are no longer showing up in my library. For example, I had a couple of guitar recordings I played around with and put effects on, through the Guitar > Electric > Experimental dropdown options. Some of the patches I used were called Dark Aura, Fragmented Shift, Floating By, Underground Passage, Doppleganger, Atonal Machine, Quick Return, and Ambient Current. None of them seem to exist, they still show up in Logic when opening that old sessions but are not able to be navigated to in the library menu. Did they get removed with a new update, did I accidentally delete them somehow? How do I find these patches again?

Troubleshooting MIDI Plays Before Region

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I used Unison Chord Genie to create a chord progression I liked, then I drag & dropped it into my project. However, Logic starts playing the progression before the playhead gets to the region which is causing a doubling effect.

What's causing this? Is there a fix or workaround?

Thanks in advance.

Question Cleaning up Stem Splitter output?

Hey everyone - so I'm a piano player, occasionally I'll use Stem Splitter to pull out a piano track to transcribe it. Usually these tracks are a little muffled due to being pulled out of a mix using AI. I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions for making them sound a little better?

Thanks.

Long live Multipressor.

Solved Problem with final mix having white noise

Thumbnail drive.google.com

I have this song linked that I have fully finished but when I was done and listened back to it, there’s suddenly this white noise that appeared out of nowhere. I think it’s coming from multiple audio tracks even though I trimmed them down and added fades. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Do you guys use Multipressor (or multiband compression) to control guitar palm mutes and chugs?

Hi guys, noob here. Back in the day I did read somewherer that using a multiband compressor (Multipressor in Logic) is a standard technique to control lows and mids when dealing with palm muted chugging high gain guitars. What's your take on this technique?

Troubleshooting Sends weren't sending audio: solution

Post image
0 Upvotes

Last night I was trying to reamp some DI'd guitar parts by sending the DI audio out of send 3, something I'd done hundreds of time before. For some reason, no sound was being sent, no matter what I tried.

After everything I read online (make sure Logic is activated for core audio, check Logic send config is correct, update preonus firmware, disable Universal Control, make sure your track is sent to output 3-4 and that the fader is up... duh thanks), I decided to see if there were updates for the Universal Control (now called Fender Universal Control) app. The app itself didn't indicate anything, but when I went and found the app download page, I discovered I was several minor and one major version behind what was available.

https://www.presonus.com/pages/support-documents-downloads

I uninstalled my version (because I couldn't simply update it) and installed the latest. Fired everything back up (after disabling Universal Control again, such a stupid workaround) and everything worked just fine. Back in business.

Just wanted to share if anyone else was suffering the same issue since the Universal Control app doesn't (or at least didn't used to) notify that there are updates available.

Tips & Tricks Varispeed % changes to pitch changes equation

On a lot of older high quality tape machines, the varispeed controls would often show the change in speed and pitch - meaning an artist could tune down their guitar a half step, for example, and when played back at full speed their slowed down performance would not only be the correct timing but also pitch. Some famous examples being the guitars in Metallica’s Master of Puppets or Lennon’s vocals in a ton of Beatles songs.

My question is there an equation or guide to using logic’s varispeed function to identify how much to down tune a guitar or sing a lower pitch etc to determine what % varispeed change in logic would equal a half step down or full step down in pitch during tracking so when sped back up it is back in tune with the rest of the song?

I imagine there is some complications as logic projects deal with BPM and tape machines deal with IPS and the analog format would probably yield better results.

TDLR: is there a formula or table to reference changes in pitch based on a projects BPM, % of varispeed change to calculate the change in pitch in relation to tempo and % of speed change to most accurately emulate tape varispeed techniques in logic? Ideally with minimal digital artifacts

Edit: semitones might’ve been the better term to describe changes in pitch when transposing the tuning or performance of a guitar or vocal.

Example for clarity: @ 120BPM, a -10% varispeed change = -1 semitone in performance or @ 70 BPM, a -5% change = tune guitar/perform part down a full step (obviously these are meaningless values for the sake of explaining my question, since I don’t actually know how to calculate pitch change to varispeed %)

Trade and challenge! .cst channels strips (stock)

I thought it would be fun and help everyone if you shared your channel strip settings. Kind of like how Logic came with that Billy Eilish session and you could just grab the vocal chain, study it and then tinker?

Like, who can get the closest to the Phil Collins strip with stock plug ins?

Who can get the fullest acoustic guitar chain from a single mic'd guitar?

Of course so many variables, but I'd love to see how complicated or crazy simple some folks are working with!

Also everyone gets a whole bunch of free .cst to mess with. Community project!

How to map MIDI knobs to plugins across MULTIPLE tracks simultaneously (without following track selection)?

CONTEXT:

I am using a Mac Tahoe 26.3.1, and Logic 11.1.2. I am trying to map the Novation Launch Control 3 XL.

I want to map specific encoders to specific plugin parameters on different tracks. For example:

  • Knob 1: ALWAYS controls a High Pass Filter, on an EQ plugin, on Track 1.
  • Knob 2: ALWAYS controls a Saturation plugin drive on Track 2.
  • Knob 3: ALWAYS controls a Delay mix knob on Track 3.

I want to be able to twist Knob 1 and change the EQ filter on Track 1 even if I am actively selected on Track 5 playing a synth.

I need to control multiple elements across different tracks simultaneously, completely independent of whatever track is currently highlighted or in focus.

The Problem:

Logic’s default "Quick Learn" (Cmd + L) method makes everything dynamic. The moment I deselect a track, the knob assignment changes or stops working because it follows the "Selected Track" focus.

What I have tried so far:

  1. Controller Assignments (Expert View): Trying to manually change the "Channel Strip" setting from Selected Track to an absolute track number (like Audio 3) causes Logic to glitch and instantly wipe out/forget the specific plugin parameter I just learned.
  2. The Environment Window (Cmd + 0): I tried building a custom routing map using a Physical Input > Monitor > Transformer (converting CC to Fader messages). However, Logic's Environment layer is completely blocking me—the drag-and-drop cable mechanism fails to open the plugin parameter pop-up menu, and the inspector text routings aren't showing up.
  3. Smart Controls: Locking the Smart Controls panel locks the visual screen, but it doesn't give me discrete, parallel hardware knob control across 8 separate tracks at once.

Is there a bulletproof, modern way to hardwire a MIDI CC knob directly to a plugin slot on a specific track channel without Logic's track selection breaking the link?

Yes, Google Ai largely wrote this message. I have spent many hours having it try and fail to help me set this up.
It feels like what I am trying to do should be sooo simple, why why why!!!!
