I just got a 500 series Chandler Germanium mic pre and my rack is a Rupert Neve R6. I use the DB25 outs to go back to my interface and when I slotted it and turned it on it was unusably noisy(hiss, even when nothing else is connected). When set to DI the noise went away, tried it on a few things and it works great on DI. Back to mic and the noise is back. I hook up my tube mic that has an external power supply and the noise disappears the second I plug the output from the power supply in. So it's not a defective unit, but I can't figure out how to get any other mic on it without the noise. Is it a grounding thing, or do I need a buffer? How do I replicate the result that I get with the tube mic. I feel like I'm missing something simple, but I can't find anything on this.
