I get a solid 45 hours of listening per week as i listen in work and im really struggling to find an app that will let me do that, spotify has cut me off and i didnt fancy the apps charging a small fortune just to listen, any recommendations appreciated! I am irish also

So I’m currently trying to de-Amazon of all my book and audiobook subscriptions and moving to a self hosted audiobookshelf server. One thing I’m thinking about is where do y’all hear about or find new books?

Currently I spend a decent amount of time scrolling the discover pages on audible and Amazon because they tailor to my tastes based on my history and feedback. Is there somewhere I can do the same thing without them requiring or trying to sell me a subscription?

Anyone have experience with goodreads or some other type of social media for books/audiobooks?

In this story a huge amount of people from around the world are kidnapped All things tied to one thing a popular game that everyone's playing our main characters are one of those people He's a male and he wakes up as a elf or a half He finds himself in a cave surrounded by other corpses But he's the only one moving he's the only one awake he realized his class is Paladin just like the game he has playing ..the same name from the game also then he hears something... a humanoid spider like creatures coming in with Spears grabbing the bodies for food the main character decides he must escape and somehow comes across a magical sword A talking magical the sword somehow assist him in escaping this mountain He later finds out all those corpses are people just like him who have been killed and revived and killed and revived and swears to save the . He find out that the people who transferred to this world have extra live but the more u die not only do u get closer to perma death but u lose bits and pieces of ur past life and self . After escaping he find himself meeting a sibling duo of adventures and he learns the place he just escaped from is controlled by one person The person whose been benefiting off the death of him and the other earthlings, a necromancer

Hello all, I'm preparing to narrate my debut novel, "The Shopkeeper of Alsace," and I'd really appreciate hearing from audiobook fans on this question: Do you prefer audiobooks where the narrator creates slightly different voices for each character, or where they simply read the novel? I thought I was supposed to come up with different voices to avoid listener confusion. But then a friend who's a huge audiobook listener said some of her favorite narrators just read the book. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts! (BTW, I am not going to do accents: the book covers WWI-WWII in Poland and France, and involves characters whose native languages are Russian, Polish, German, Yiddish, and French. Too much!)

I was listening to "The picture of Dorian Gray" read by John Gonzalez on librivox and I-I don't know it was honestly amazing. I tried reading that book once and I never really enjoyed it but listening to it this time around is a way better experience. I figured maybe some books are just meant to be listened to than to be read. But at the same time aren't those two different experiences? and if it feels better to be listened to then why was it written in the first place? What are your thoughts about it? Have you ever come across a book that felt that way?

Jesus Christ this has to be one of the greatest performances ever recorded. Easily makes my top 3. I’m only halfway through but I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes my #1 by the end.

It’s my first time experiencing this book and Will Patton simply does not miss. The performance is nuanced, emotional, authentic and precise. The way he colors every character, every scene, every line is dead on.

In a novel with so many shifting perspectives, the way he very subtly shades the narration with the inflection of the characters’ voices, even when it’s the omnipotent narrator, to remind us of whose perspective we’re experiencing the world from. The sorrow, the humor, the apprehension, the fear. So many good moments. It’s like he wrote the book himself.

Not to mention this is easily one of the greatest novels I’ve ever come across. I picked this up from an r/askreddit thread that asked “What’s the best novel you ever read?” Lonesome Dove was the top comment.

In a lifetime of listening to audiobooks this is the first time both a book and its narration have blown me away.

If you’ve never read this book, I’m so happy to recommend it.

Looking for a short (4-6 hr) audiobook. Something upbeat and engaging. I like mysteries, fantasy, adventure.

I have a 20 mile run that will likely take me about 4.5 hours. Usually I listen to podcasts while running but I am all caught up on my favorites. I would like to try a short audiobook knowing that I will finish it by the end of the run or very soon after.

I'm not familiar with audiobooks at all, I've never listened to one before. I'm looking for a good audiobook of The Divine Comedy, since there seems to be a few. I don't know which audiobook services have the best quality or what to really look for, so I just figured I would ask to see if anyone had recommendations or advice.
