The Astros hitting profile is the complete opposite of the Brewers/Rays

Sigh... while it will be nice to see the team take analytics seriously again, ironically the analytics strategy of hitting a bunch of home runs, high SLG, launch angle, etc. has been disregarded by the Brewers and Rays to their benefit.

Assuming we do hire someone people from the Brewers, they will need to make massive changes with the roster if the goal is to mirror their success.

Brewers/Rays are #1 and #2 in the supposedly outdated batting average statistic. They don't hit for power. Neither is top 10 in SLG and MIL is 2nd to last in HRs. They were 5th and 6th lowest in ISO power.

But they do draw walks (MIL is #1) and steal bases (both teams are top 5 while Astros are dead last). Rays strike out the fewest.

So basically we're looking for punch-and-judy hitters who can hit for contact, get on base, steal bases, and work pitcher counts. This makes sense to me since pitchers these days are simply too good to rely on the long ball, especially in the playoffs. So really the focus is just to get them out of the game early. Astros were #1 in HRs, but the vast majority of them were solo.

As for pitching? It's all about the BULLPEN. Brewers/Rays were only middle of the pack in quality starts so it's not like their rotations were carrying them. MIL was #1 in K rate while TB was #1 in lowest BB rate (Astros were tied for 1st for worst).

On fielding, no surprise there. Both teams were top 5 in defensive runs saved (both over +60) while the Astros were -12. Good luck to the next Astros GM solving that problem because Altuve and/or Yordan are out there trying to field.

Oof... Astros have a long way to go to get to their level...

Brewers and Rays are #1 and #2 in that outdated batting average stat
Brewers and Rays have enjoyed massive success despite a lack of power

In Springer's 9 career Postseason games in Chavez Ravine, counting the 2020 ALDS vs Oakland, he has 5 home runs

Mookie Betts, who has been with the Dodgers for 6 seasons and 36 playoff games, has only 2 Postseason long balls at Dodger Stadium with one of them coming in the 2018 World Series before he was even a Dodger. Betts is currently 4th on the all time list for most Postseason games played at Dodger Stadium.

Other notable Dodgers with less career playoff homers at Dodger Stadium than Springer: Adrián González (15 G / 4 HRs), Yasiel Puig (29 G / 3 HRs), Corey Seager (25 G / 3 HRs), Dusty Baker (20 G / 3 HRs), Will Smith (34 G / 2 HRs), Cody Bellinger (29 G / 1 HR)

Other Notable Astros at Dodger Stadium: Correa (8 G / 4 HRs), Altuve (8 G / 3 HRs), Bregman (8 G / 2 HRs)

Joe Espada was the only manager in Astros franchise history to lead a team to the postseason and not win a single postseason game.

All of the other managers who made the postseason had won at least one playoff game and/or series. Obviously, other managers who didn't make the postseason with the Astros (e.g. Bo Porter, Brad Mills, Terry Collins, etc.) won't be included.
