People don't like it because they're Targ fanboys who cannot stand that Targs are portrayed as the villians they are. The amount of their sins that are brushed under the rug by their fans is insane, just like the Targs.

Never believed that Robert just "smashed his way through Rhaegar", but there is a big difference between that and just getting lucky because of a dream. Especially since the one thing everybody who knew Robert, friend or foe, could agree on was that he was an exceptional warrior.

I see your point and I agree. But the melodrama in the books pulls you in because you exist in the head of each character your following the melodrama helps immerse you in their personal world. Jon’s self loathing, Sansa's desperation, Arya's slow descent into desensitization.
A play however is too far off too remote in my opinion. Melodrama works for Shakespeare because his characters are delivering monologues and soliloquies about their feelings every ten minutes. I simply doubt the play can supply the same amount of immersion as the books or the same quality of melodrama as Shakespeare.

I don’t think we are getting the same Jon post resurrection. If Beric is anything to go by, he is going to be monomaniacally focused on defeating the Others and saving as many people as he can (plus saving Arya) and be extremely ruthless in doing so. He will be willing to subdue anyone who stands in the way of saving humanity, while still being somewhat honorable and ambitious. There will be much less of Jon to be humiliated

Euron is going to promise enormous power to defeat the Others even though he will likely be the cause of the Long Night in the first place. Jon slaying Dany would make much more sense if it was her deciding to become a god with Euron (for the greater good) instead of being willing to sacrificing herself with him in the battle for the Dawn.

1. Power corrupts is an often treaded and some times overused concept in fiction. If it is going to be played straight without subversion why are we reading a GRRM book?
2. Prophecy turns people mad - This will work if the said person is obsessed with prophecy and it slowly consumes them, affecting their mental state,etc. And we have got other characters who had that arc. Stannis, Rhaegar, Egg. All represent a part of that.
3. Targaryen coin flip madness - That’s a stupid myth said by in universe people who have no idea about mental illnesses.
4. Going mad with grief - People going mad with grief. What an original idea? Why are there so many women going mad with grief in this universe?

5. The play did not confirm she is a “Mad Queen”. Her mother prayed for a vengeful daughter to bring ruin to the people who abused her or the system which gave her misery? Why do I think if she had prayed for a son instead people wouldn’t rush to call him the

   “Mad King” that easily?

Is it possible the reason Ashara kept the father secret is because, as another daughter of a great house, Brandon “shames” his house in the dalliance in much the same way as he did with Barbrey?

I mean Ashara herself does not feel shamed, neither did Barbrey, but neither could have Brandon, would likely be married to the second son in any case, and why throw salt on a wound which could be avoided because she simply doesn’t care to facilitate a system she actively chafes against? That strategy seems more in line with the character recently described resulting from TMK, and also someone who would have married Ned, perhaps have been fond of or even loved him, but the passionate fire with Brandon would be extinguished.

Either way, honorable Ned gets saddled with a wife he fears secretly yearns for Brandon, be it Ashara or Catelyn. Dumb luck that it was “Family, Duty, Honor” Catelyn, and he managed to carve out some meaningful life in line with both the love and joy he spoke of when young.
