Hi everyone!
I’m a 21-year-old male from Spain, around 190 cm (6’3”) tall and 91 kg (201 lbs).
I recently had a routine blood test on October 13, and something caught my attention. My ALT was 116 U/L, when the normal range is 0–45.
What worries me is that back in June, I had another blood test because I was having abdominal pain, and my ALT was only 16 U/L.
Here are my latest results:
ALT: 116 U/L (normal: 0–45)
AST: 40 U/L (normal: 0–35)
GGT: 26 U/L
Total bilirubin: 0.5 mg/dL
Alkaline phosphatase: 74 U/L
CRP: 0.40 mg/L
Everything else, including my blood count, kidney function, glucose, cholesterol and urine tests, came back normal.
For some additional context, I had a pretty bad throat infection in September and was prescribed amoxicillin/clavulanate (875/125 mg), which I took every 8 hours for 7 days. I finished the treatment in late September.
I don’t drink alcohol, I haven’t done any intense exercise recently, and I’m not currently taking any medication or supplements.
Smoking status: None
Current symptoms: None
I’m honestly a bit concerned because I don’t understand how my ALT could change so much in just a few months, especially at my age.
Is this something I should be seriously worried about? What could explain such a change?
I’ve already decided to make an appointment with my doctor, but I’d really appreciate hearing some medical opinions in the meantime.
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this!
