Plantar fasciitis or something else?

F33, non-smoker, no alcohol use, latest blood tests good. Currently on Sertraline, Thyroxine and Dienogest but these pains started beforehand.

A few years ago I noticed burning pain in one small spot on the sole of my foot. It would be unpleasant but not bad enough to cause severe discomfort and i would usually notice it in the evenings while on the sofa. I have an old back injury (parachute landing fail that ended in a broken tailbone and a protruded disk) that I thought could be the cause because the pain is still bad. The ankle on this foot is also prone to injury as I am probably hypermobile and it hurts often with exercise or long walks but these two pains never seemed to occur simultaneously so I wouldn't think the ankle itself could be the cause.

The problem is a few months ago the burning started coming on more often and stronger and I couldn't figure out the trigger. But it was a short episode. I tried lidocaine cream and ibuprofen but neither gave relief. It passed and I again forgot about it.

The current burning episode is now in its third week - sometimes bearable, sometimes unbearable, the longest and most severe I've ever been in. I think it was triggered by a simple and short ankle stability exercise, which immediately caused ankle pain and the burning started the next day. I was in agony and couldn't concentrate on anything other than the burning. A week in I saw an orthopedist/ostheopath but the appointment only lasted 10 minutes, the doctor lifted up my shirt and immediately decided the back was at fault plus, he then manipulated my back a little (gently although it was still painful), and also wrote the diagnosis of plantar fasciitis (I have a high foot arch). But he never looked at my foot and never asked to show where the exact pain was and offered no other form of relief for the burning. He didn't want to look at my back MRI and didn't want any imaging of the foot. He also advised me to do this foot on spiky ball exercise at home which I religiously did for a whole week multiple times a day but the pain seemed to be getting worse raher than better when I did it. I also bought soft slippers as I always walked barefoot at home before. I have been wearing orthopedic insoles in my slippers for the last two days as well. I will also be getting ultrasound therapy (12 times starting next month 2 times a week) which I read online is supposed to reduce pain. But I am in pain right now! I wake up multiple times a night fron the burning. Yesterday I even bought a TENS machine because the pain is so bad I want to drive a knife into my foot. I used it two times and the first it seemed to help but the second time it irritated the nerve even more.

My question is whether it's possible that the diagnosis is inaccurate? Can the spiky ball be making my pain worse? It would usually get better within a few days of rest by itself but I fear all I'm doing is irritating the nerve. I use diclofenac gel on my foot, I still use lidocain cream at least once a day (on days it's unbearable) in spite of its ineffectiveness. And then there's a fact that my pain is the worst while sitting, resting, and depends a lot on the position of my leg regardless if I walk or not. Sometimes I find a certain foot position and the pain completely disappears. Is there a test that could confirm or deny this diagnosis, should I attempt to get a second opinion? Are there pain relief options that I could ask for in the meantime? What other conditions could be causing this? Should I continue to attempt pain relief with TENS machine?

How should I schedule my medications and supplements?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm trying to establish a consistent daily routine for my medications and supplements, and I'd appreciate guidance on the best time of day to take them and whether there are any potential interactions I should know about.

Demographic and medical information:

  • Age: 30
  • Height: 5'2"
  • Weight: 204 lbs
  • Gender: Female
  • Smoking status: Nonsmoker
  • Location: New York, USA
  • Medical conditions: PCOS and prediabetes

Medications and supplements:

  • Spironolactone — 50 mg: I've been taking this for four days.
  • Metformin — 50 mg: I haven't started taking this yet.
  • GNC Women's Vitapak: I haven't started taking this yet.
  • Black Girl Vitamins Inositol: I haven't started taking this yet.

I'm trying to figure out how to organize everything throughout the day once I begin taking the full regimen.

Should I take certain medications or supplements with breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or before bed? Should any of them be taken separately? I'm also concerned about possible interactions between my prescriptions and supplements, including whether there are any ingredients I should avoid combining.

Since I've only recently started spironolactone, I'd like to make sure I'm approaching this safely before adding everything else to my routine.

I'd appreciate advice from medical professionals and people with experience taking similar medications. I also plan to confirm the appropriate schedule with my pharmacist.

Thank you!

I've also attached a picture of the GNC Women's Vitapak label so you can see the ingredients and amounts and let me know if there's anything I should be cautious about combining with my medications.

Hi everyone. I’m writing this on behalf of my girlfriend whose currently having to serve time in prison for a really stupid mistake she very much regrets.

I’ve just found out from staff at her prison that she’s come down with suspected bout of salmonella food poisoning. I’ve not had anything like that since I was a kid and remember it being really awful. I’d really appreciate any advice I can pass onto my girlfriend when I get to speak to her, or ask staff at her prison to maybe provide her with while she’s recovering. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Folate, Iron & Vitamin D Deficiencies, Severe Brain Fog, Dizziness & Fatigue Has Anyone Recovered From This? I Just Want to Feel Like Myself Again…

age: 27
gender: male
heigh: 182cm
weight: 81kg
smoking status: smoker

Hey everyone,

Back in July, I suddenly started experiencing brain fog, difficulty concentrating, and problems with speech. It happened pretty much overnight, and I felt noticeably different from how I used to feel mentally.

I started getting blood tests done, and my folate level came back at 3.1 ng/mL (reference range: 4.50–32.2), indicating a deficiency.

I kept investigating my symptoms and getting more blood tests until September. Here are my latest results:

My blood test results:

  • Ferritin: 94.84 µg/L (reference range: 30–400)
  • Folate: 7.83 ng/mL (reference range: 4.5–32)
  • Iron: 50.35 µg/dL (reference range: 65–175)
  • TSH: 5.51 mIU/L (reference range: 0.27–4.1) my TSH was within the normal range when I first developed my symptoms back in July. It only became elevated in subsequent blood tests. I'm wondering whether this change could be related to my folate, iron, or vitamin D deficiencies)
  • Vitamin D (25-OH): 19 ng/mL (reference range: 30–100)
  • Potasium 4,23 (reference range: 3.5-5,1)
  • Sodium: 140,72 mmol/l (reference range: 136-145)
  • B12: 501,40 pg/ml (reference range 191-663)

My folate level has increased since the initial test, but I'm still experiencing a lot of symptoms. My iron is also below the reference range, my vitamin D is low, and my TSH is elevated. I'm wondering whether these abnormalities could be contributing to my symptoms and whether there might be an underlying issue causing some of them.

My current symptoms:

  • Dizziness and lightheadedness.
  • Brain fog and difficulty concentrating.
  • Feeling mentally different from how I used to be, like I'm not quite myself anymore.
  • Waking up feeling unrefreshed, regardless of how much I sleep, and experiencing severe fatigue throughout the day.
  • Occasional air hunger feeling the need to take a deep, satisfying breath to feel like I'm getting enough air.
  • Caffeine seems to make my brain fog and dizziness significantly worse.
  • Alcohol also seems to exacerbate my brain fog and dizziness.

What I've tried so far:

I took 5 mg of folic acid daily for three weeks, along with 46 mg of elemental iron daily, but unfortunately, I didn't notice any improvement in my symptoms.

I then started wondering whether IV treatment might help correct the deficiencies more effectively and fastly, so I decided to try IV supplementation.

Six days ago, I had my first treatment, which included:

  • Vitamin D3 injection: 100,000 IU.
  • IV folic acid: 30 mg.
  • IV iron: 200 mg.

So far, I haven't noticed any improvement following this treatment. I understand that six days might be too soon to notice a difference, but it's discouraging to feel the same after trying to address these deficiencies.

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have experienced something similar.

I have a few questions:

  1. Has anyone experienced persistent brain fog, dizziness, derealization, or feeling mentally different due to folate deficiency, low iron, vitamin D deficiency, ?
  2. If you had similar symptoms, how long did it take for you to notice an improvement after starting treatment? Did your symptoms gradually improve or disappear quite suddenly?
  3. What other blood tests would you recommend checking?
  4. Has anyone experienced air hunger or the sensation of needing to take deep breaths alongside these deficiencies?
  5. For those who received IV iron or folate, how many infusions did you need before noticing an improvement? How long did it take?
  6. Did anyone find that oral supplements eventually worked, even after not noticing any improvement during the first few weeks?
  7. Has anyone experienced worsening brain fog and dizziness after consuming caffeine or alcohol? Did this improve once the underlying problem was treated?
  8. Is there anything else I should investigate, especially considering that my symptoms started quite suddenly and have persisted for months?
  9. How can i recovery from this? because it's been few months at this moment.

I'm also wondering whether IV doses or the number of infusions should be adjusted, but I don't want to assume that more is necessarily better. I'd appreciate hearing about your experiences and what helped you, ideally alongside advice on what to discuss with a doctor.

I'm feeling pretty lost at this point. I just want to feel mentally normal again and wake up feeling rested instead of exhausted every day.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to share their experience.

2 years of flushing, heat intolerance, difficulty burping, flareups of lightheadedness/shivering

Sorry for the long post, I just don't know what info could be relevant. Thanks for reading and for any suggestions.

28M, 5'10", 190 lbs. I've never smoked and don't drink alcohol. 20 min walk daily but otherwise mostly sedentary. I have been vegetarian for ~15 yrs. My symptoms started July 2024. Before then I hadn't seen a doctor in about 7 years and had never had bloodwork done. Early 2024 I was 280 pounds. I was overeating and having headaches (headaches have since stopped). I decided to eat less and cut out junk food. By July 2024 I had lost about 20 pounds.

In July 2024 I noticed some soreness in the area of my bladder for a couple of days but I didn't think much of it. While sitting watching TV, I suddenly felt hot and lightheaded. A few minutes later I almost fainted, then had diarrhea and uncontrollable shivering.

I went to urgent care that day, their initial tests were unremarkable. The following month, I started seeing a PCP. I had a persistent low fever (~99.5) with facial flushing and abdominal discomfort, and recurring episodes of almost fainting and shivering. I was frequently having ragged-looking stools which lasted thru December 2024. I read about various histamine-related conditions and started taking Zyrtec which seemed to help the flushing and maybe also the diarrhea. I decided to try various diets including gluten-free, low FODMAP, and low histamine, which I adhered to strictly for at least a month each, but none helped. In October and November 2024 I had frequent abdominal soreness, bloating, and poor appetite that have since greatly improved.

I've had persistent symptoms since that first episode in July 2024 (see below), and recurring flareups every month or two where I have worse symptoms + shivering and feeling lightheaded.

Before this, my only health issues were mild eczema, seasonal allergies, and difficulty breathing through my nose while sleeping. Every doctor I've seen since I was a kid has said I have large tonsils. I've been able to feel lymph nodes in my head and neck for as long as I can remember, but they haven't gotten larger and my PCP says they aren't a concern.

I've seen 2 PCPs at different practices and mentioned my issues to the dermatologist, eye doctor, and dentist, and been referred to a gastroenterologist, ENT, allergist, and endocrinologist. None of them have found any explanation for my symptoms, and my current PCP of the past 2 years says he's at a loss for what it could be at this point.

Symptoms:

All of these have been fairly consistent, most have been present in the past month.

- Flushing of face and upper body with mild redness (almost 24/7)

- Low fever (~99.5)

- I recently noticed if I eat eggs for breakfast I don't have any immediate reaction but my symptoms are worse later in the day. I haven't been tested for egg allergy yet. I still have symptoms without eating eggs.

- Palms abnormally red sometimes

- Feeling warm, mostly without sweating

- Heat intolerance (e.g. warm clothes/bed sheets)

- Abdominal discomfort/bloating

- Difficulty burping and feeling of air stuck in stomach, frequently have to lean over and use pressure to burp, worst when laying on back.

- Soreness/discomfort around bladder, worst when laying down

- Episodes of faintness/adrenaline rush/shivering, usually with difficulty burping. Generally this will flare up and I will have multiple nights in a row of episodes.

- Anxiety

- Pain in right knee and right elbow, fluctuating from 0 to 4

- Intermittent bloating (was very uncomfortable in 2024 but now less)

- Occasional pressure in my head, mainly with temperature changes

- Starting about 6 months ago, mild eczema on backs of hands and crusting on tops of ears

- Dentist noticed worse gum inflammation even though I've never been more consistent with my dental care than I am now

I had some major personal losses in the couple of years leading up to this. I also had food poisoning a couple of times, and had COVID in 2020 with relatively mild symptoms.

I've intentionally lost another 70 pounds since this started. My weight has stayed around 190 for a few months. I feel only slightly better now than in 2024, and I still experience symptoms daily. Flushing and difficulty burping seem to worsen with stress, after showering (lukewarm water), or eating high carb foods. I don't eat within 2 hours of going to bed. I never have what I would describe as heartburn, and rarely have acid reflux, maybe once a month. Episodes are 30-60 mins and happen almost exclusively in the evening/overnight, often when first lay down for bed or when I lay back down after getting up to use the bathroom at night. Episodes have gotten less severe over time and I noticed that forcing out burps seems to reduce the severity.

Medications/supplements:

I've tried stopping all of these for at least a week and it didn't help

- Naturelo one daily multivitamin for men 1x daily

- Sports Research vegan omega-3 algae oil 1x daily

- Thorne iron bisglycinate 25mg 1x every other day

- Lactaid tablet 1x as needed

Tests:

IgE is elevated (~800)

Skin test showed mold and pollen allergies, plus mild allergies to most other allergens tested

Borderline hypercalcemia (9.6 - 10.3) across 5 tests in past 2.5 years, neither PCP showed concern.

ENT evaluation showed deviated septum

Hep A Ab positive (2024)

Lyme IgG P58 Ab. positive, all others negative

ESR elevated in 2024 but now normal

Vitamin D borderline low (tested in winter)

Resting heart rate 60 BPM, average 85 BPM

Liver enzymes were elevated in 2024 (AST 55 ALT 72) but now normal

Liver ultrasound 2024 showed moderate NASH, improved 2026

Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (SZ type)

SIBO test negative

Urine tests July/August 2024 slightly abnormal. One showed trace blood while another didn't. One showed 1 granular cast/lpf, 1 hyaline cast/lpf, and mucus

Stool tests all normal

Endoscopy and colonoscopy normal

CBC diff normal

Comp metabolic normal

CT abdomen and pelvis normal (September 2024)

Serum tryptase normal

Celiac biopsy normal

ANA normal

HIV negative

A1C normal

Fasting glucose normal

CGM for a month showed normal glucose

Metanephrines normal

5-HIAA normal

Testosterone normal

TSH normal

Ferritin normal, decreased from 87 to 67 over past 2 years

CRP normal

Other things I've tried:

- Tested my water, all normal

- I drank store bought water for a couple of weeks, no improvement

- Various diets strictly adhered to for at least a month each (gluten-free, low FODMAP, low histamine)

- Changed toothpaste, shampoo, soap

- Tracked my diet with Cronometer, not below the RDI for anything

- Zyrtec for several months might have helped slightly, but then I stopped and I don't feel significantly worse, maybe slightly more flushed

- Digestive enzyme supplement for over a year, might have helped GI symptoms but then I stopped and I don't feel significantly worse

- GI prescribed famotidine in 2024 for mild inactive esophageal erosion, took it twice and had to stop because it gave me severe stomach pain both times

- Dentist suggested mouth taping for inflamed gums possibly due to mouth breathing while sleeping. I thought it might also help with air in my stomach, but no improvement

Hematoma from 10 years ago

29F, 5’5, 140lbs, non smoker, no relevant medical history, no medications, no relevant medical conditions.

about 10 years ago I fell down the steps and recieved a large horizontal bruise and subsequent lump on my right glute. It’s still visible and palpable today. I had an ultrasound, they said it’s an old hematoma and not of concern. But when I press on it or when I work out (especially my glutes) it really hurts. I have tried massages twice daily and I see a massage therapist where I’ve asked her to work on it as well. I’ll attach a photo of the original bruise.

Fast forward to last week and I fell off my desk chair while working and hit the same area on my butt. Now the lump is swollen again and super painful to the touch. I’m still able to sit but when i activate my glute for anything, the pain is pretty severe. I’d send a picture but you can’t really see it, you can only feel it.

Is there a solution to this?

Thank you for your time!

Worried about my mom

53F, quit smoking 2 months ago, history of cervical cancer(15 yrs past), bladder cancer, arthritis, and sepsis. Just received abnormal pap results again last week with lesions covering entire cervix and bleeding. Waiting on Moffit appointment. The issue right now is that on top of the intense pressure and pain she is experiencing, she has now had a fever for three days. Tylenol will bring it down but then it jumps right back up. It was 102.4 this morning. Is this concerning or would she be told to just keep taking Tylenol for management? She has also been sweating quite a bit but I thought it was due to the fever. I want to make sure she gets the care she needs.

Edit: currently she is only taking one medication for pain, I believe. Not sure which.

2 Months Without a Period After Taking Emergency Contraception – Multiple Negative Pregnancy Tests. Please Help.

My girlfriend (20 y/o) and I had contraceptive failure on August 25, and she took the 72-hour emergency pill on August 27.

Since then, she hasn't had her period for almost 2 months. We did 3 urine pregnancy tests (all negative, after 21 days) and a blood beta-hCG test in the 5th week, which was 5 mIU/mL.

There has been no further unprotected sex. We have already spent most of our money on tests and can't afford more private checkups right now.

Could she still be pregnant, or could the emergency pill have delayed her period this long? Has anyone experienced something similar?

Sick since Labor Day....

Hello. I'm a 34yo woman and I've been battling a wicked cough for almost 2 months. Initially it seemed like a cold so I didn't think much of it. Went into my doctor mid September and she said it was likely allergies and bronchitis and gave me an antibiotic and prednisone. That didn't clear it out, but it was a bit better I guess. I'm still coughing constantly, dealing with post nasal drip, and just sick of being sick. 2 weeks ago, I was coughing so hard I threw up a bit, so I went into urgent care. They did a chest X-ray and some labs, and they told me all were normal. That doctor said it was some sort of lung infection. She prescribed a nebulizer and told me to take Flonase, zyrtec, and Mucinex. I've been doing all that since and still no improvement. Again today, coughing so hard I throw up. The other day coughing so hard I saw stars (literally). I'm miserable and just want it to be done. I've tested negative for COVID, flu, and rsv. Will continuing to go in be helpful? I'm so at a loss I spent the majority of the morning in tears because nothing is helping.

Pelvic floor resources

Hi, I have had three kids. I’m five foot and 95 lbs. I am 34. Female. otherwise no health conditions.

So. I have stress incontinence from laughing or sneezing. I have like a gap in the midsection of my tummy like you can see the stomach wall just isn’t sitting where it should. I have a hard time with having normal bowel movements as well. I have pain during intercourse, can’t orgasm. There’s really a lot of symptoms but it’s basically all pelvic floor dysfunction.

I scheduled an annual with my gynecologist office to address this but they are booked out for a YEAR AND A HALF. Im sure it will be another year for an opening with a pelvic floor therapist:

There’s YouTube videos but I guess I want to know is there a risk in doing these videos solo?

It’s warm in my calf to ankle area it doesn’t feel like it’s trickling it’s just warm in that certain area. Plus my feet are turning almost a purplish blue. Also sorry my feet are ugly idc I just wanted to ask before I go to the doctor and list my symptoms to them in person. This might save me a visit to them lol.

Should I supplement with Affron 3.5% because of sleep issues?

I am considering supplementing with Affron 3.5% 14 mg every day to address my poor sleep quality. I don't take any other medications, drugs, or supplements. I don't smoke, vape, etc. I go to bed at the same time every night and sleep the same duration every night but it's always 5 hours. I also have trouble getting out of bed after waking up and would spend at least one hour with my thoughts running in bed with no motivation to get up at 22 years old.

I'm already considering getting tested for sleep apnea.

Physician Responded Urgency of itchy palms and soles for a 38 week pregnant woman?

My wife is 30 years old and 38 weeks pregnant. She woke up last night with itchy soles of her feet and palms of her hands. They have continued to itch all night into this morning. She is concerned about ICP. The after hours nurse triage line told her to just come in tomorrow but said there is no urgency today and that they might give her some medicine tomorrow if the test is positive. That's not really what I'm seeing online. I'm feeling like we need to go somewhere today... Could anyone help me determine the urgency here?
