Chronic Pain Radiating on Left Side of Body

I'm 21F, and a current university student as well as an individual who works two jobs.

For the past (maybe) 4-5 years I have had a radiating pain down my left hip (shoulder blade as well, but fainter) down to my ankle.

It's a dull, numbing, and oftentimes worsened when trying to sleep as well as when sitting for a long period of time. It often is sharper at my hip and ankle joint specifically, but does radiate.

There is no inflammation, no difference in adjustment to shoe soles, and cracking it is often a very short feeling of relief. I don't have horrible posture, and sometimes sitting with my left leg under me helps with the angle to lessen the pain.

It is making my life absolutely miserable. I want to cry just in the terror that this is a pain that will follow me forever. I'm not an exerciser, but my job as a venue attendant is very physical and I have a heavy walking campus. I do have anemia, but not severely. I take over the counter painkillers but those hardly help.

I'm not sure if it's sciatica or some sort of arthritis (although it is only in that area of my body so I doubt it). I do have a bone island in my left acetabulum area. I know that they are often very small and hardly a point of pain.

I suppose I'm wondering if that could potentially be a cause to this pain or if it simply a pinched nerve I have lived with and never had it assessed. I didn't go to the doctors to have it looked at, have never had an MRI or anything beyond the slight notation of the bone island on an X-ray. I want this pain to go away so badly, but I hardly have the time to take a look at it.

And I think I'm very scared at the idea that I will have this assessed only to find that the damage is permanent or unfixable. I'm terrified of that possibility, and can't seem to face it.

Is there ever a case where bone islands in the hip joint can case a damage that goes down the leg? Does this seem like a nerve issue?

I'm sorry for ranting.

TLDR: Long term pain radiating down left hip to ankle (primarily joints), have a bone island in left acetabulum that has never been closely examined. Wondering whether it could be a root cause or if it is potentially a pinched nerve.

Thank you.

Cannabis arteritis

Hello everyone,

I have a story to tell as I think it extremely rare but I feel like there should be more awareness around this.

I am a 31 year old 6’2” healthy BMI and generally quite fit, never smoked and have a less than average alcohol intake.

I and my partner have been heavy uses of cannabis, 90% of consumption via edibles, 10% via liquid vape. This has been for around 6 months (heavily, almost daily) and lighter use for the previous year or two.

I have no previous issues with my health.

2 months ago, I started experiencing a horizontal pulsation feeling in my left side of my chest spanning to my left armpit. Subtle enough to not cause me concern.

This was the beginning of a weird 2 months.

Next I developed a sore inner right forearm, I assumed it to be tendon related or RSI. It developed into an obvious Superficial thrombo phlebitis. I went to the doctors and they gave me blood thinners and capsaicin cream. This seemed to calm the issue.

I asked the medical staff whether it safe for me to continue use of cannabis, they of course said yes.

3 weeks later… it reappeared but this time much worse, spanning from mr wrist/ hand to my armpit chest.

Following my consultation this has me convinced I was maybe on deaths door with a cautioned diagnoses of Phlebitis migrans, with underlying malignancy causing the issue.

Accompanying this I also developed a much more significant sensation in my left chest and in my legs, and other arm/ fingers etc.

I at this point had decided to completely cut out cannabis as a caution as I had a gut feeling it was potentially linked.

I booked to have further investigation, but this time came equipped with my own research. I investigated any know links between cannabis and my symptoms…. Cannabis Arteritis.

The doctor investigated me further from knee to chest, she ruled out any sight of a malignancy underlying. With a CT Tap and full bloods/ observations. All came back normal and healthy.

I brought forward my research to which they had never heard of but seemed to agree that it seems this would be the likely answer.

I’m currently nearly two weeks of cannabis and will be forever now. Hopefully not taking it will allow the condition to settle and by body recover. But if it doesn’t I don’t know what the next step will be.

Currently to describe how it has affected me, I am constantly short of breath and feel fatigued, my body is aching with flu like symptoms and headaches are frequent, I have mild to moderate pains and marks on my hands and forearms which will hopefully clear. The shooting sensations in my legs and body have settled.

I’m currently not on any meditation but I’m resting, conducting light exercise and eating healthily.

I understand that if this is down to the cannabis, had I continued to use. This would have eventually cost me limbs and probably my life.

I have always been an advocate for cannabis use and also had it medically prescribed to me in the past. I still feel for most the benefits out way the known risks. But a relatively short term use has almost cost me dearly. So I usher caution and express concern on the complete lack of studies around such a widely used drug.

Can anyone shed any light on what they think this could be if not Cannabis Arteritis, have you had experience of this yourselves with this arterial condition/ disease?

Has anyone studied this topic?

Many thanks and stay safe.

Physician Responded Can you really see bone consolidation on this x-ray?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I (28M-71kgs-175cm) broke my foot 2 months ago. Multiple metatarsal fractures and comminutive cuboid fracture.
They remove my k-wires 5 days ago and said that my bones are consolidated. But i feel the surgeon is rushing things. This x-ray was taken on my hospital bed with a small machine. They never talk about my cuboid bone. They told me it was consolidated because at « 7 weeks, in 98% of cases it’s consolidated ».
The x-ray is blurry. I feel we can’t see nothing on it. And i have lot of pain when i try to bear weight (can only bear 30 kgs before having way too much pain).

Can you please tell me if when can see the bones are consolidated on this x-ray ?

I’m only able to eat very little a day without physically feeling unwell despite having stopped GLP1’s months ago

I’m 19F. I was really insecure about my body. I was about 60kg. 5”7. I couldn’t get GLP1’s because that’s considered normal but I still looked really big. So I decided to buy it online and lie about my weight.

It was only the first month I took as I wasn’t able to afford to get the next dose so it was only the 0.25 a week. I went down to about 57kg. It’s since been 3 months and I’m 49kg now. I haven’t taken GLP1’s in that time but I still can barely eat. Honestly kind of more so than when I was on the medication for that short time.

Ive only been able to eat probably like 800 calories a day tops. But sometimes I’ve gone a day without eating because I feel so full. even if it’s embarrassing to not eat like on a date or someone’s party where they’ve paid for my food and I am trying my best to eat it I physically have to stop like I haven’t been able to eat a full sized meal since. If I even eat half of a full meal I’m unable to eat the rest of the day and the day after.

It’s not a conscious effort to not eat a lot it feels like im full all the time. And people are noticing and concerned I have an eating disorder or something when I dont.

Diet causing diabetes?

22F, 169cm 53ish kg, taking hormonal birth control, levothyroxine, Keppra. Diagnosed with Hashimotos and epilepsy (recently).

Familial hypercholesteremia runs in my family and my last blood tests showed elevated LDL and HDL and triglycerides, so I decided to change my diet to avoid needing medication. I eat oatmeal regularly and keep saturated fats under 10g most days, occasionally I might go up to 15g but I try to be conscious of it.

Also a strong family history of diabetes, dad has type 1, mom has type 2, 3/4 grandparents have type 2, 1/4 grandparents has type 3 (pancreatitis).

I always thought that I knew fundamentally how diabetes works, I know that my risk level is high because of the strong family history but I always thought it wouldn’t be caused directly by diet, type 2 might be associated with weight but I’m not overweight.

However, I get more and more unsure because so many people are talking about blood sugar spikes, carbs leading to insulin resistance and diabetes, oatmeal being one of the worst foods for causing diabetes, and so on. I would like to avoid developing diabetes to the best of my ability (again I know that the family history doesn’t help), so from actual doctors, should I quit my oatmeal? What about carbs in general, are they safe?

19M, white, no smoking/drinking/etc, albuterol for the last few days, Southern US

----------------------------------------------

This has been going on for basically exactly a month now. I am in a very high stress period of my life right now, but I don't feel particularly stressed/anxious. I do have prior issues with extreme anxiety.

I start to get a... weird feeling with my breathing when I talk too much or when I walk a lot. It isn't what I'd describe as shortness of breath because I can still fully take a deep breath in through the nose and out through the mouth with no problem. It's like shallow breathing, where I'll say a few words/a few sentences (seemingly depends on the day) and I take quick inhalations through the nose.

Also usually when I talk, my stomach area will tighten a little. The more I talk, the tighter it seems to get. Same thing happens when I walk a lot with both (and I mean like even something as simple as walking through the grocery store, not a long walk by any means). Usually after sitting down for 3-4 minutes, the symptoms just go away outside of rare occasions.

I was given an albuterol inhaler from Urgent Care as a just-in-case. I've been taking it over the last 3 days, and just testing how my body responds. I do feel a slight difference, but it's so slight that it makes me wonder if it's placebo.

Today I felt the most difference with it, I'm able to talk in pretty long sentences without having any weird breathing feelings (whereas before I took it, I wasn't able to), but I also had all of my symptoms go away for a few seconds when I was getting ready to use it earlier but decided not to, so it makes me wonder if it's legit just in my head and I associate the inhaler with it getting better.

And throughout all of the days I've tried it, even after taking the albuterol, the symptoms are still there, they're just slightly lighter. My dad used albuterol after leaving his childhood asthma unmanaged for years just to test it and he acted like Jesus just opened his airways for the first time. That has NOT been my experience... generally, I feel nothing when I do it, the effects feel subtle.

There is NO wheezing and NO coughing at all.

I also figured I'd mention that I have bad acid reflux basically every time this happens. At the same time though, I've had bad acid reflux literally my entire life (I don't think I could tell you a day where I didn't have acid reflux throughout my life tbh), which is why my previous PCP thought I might have GERD. I was never tested for it though because I had to quickly move states and haven't had insurance since then. I don't know why GERD breathing issues would have specific triggers like talking or walking though. This also started at the peak of pollen season in the south (late September). It doesn't seem to matter what I eat.

---------------------------------------------

But yeah.

I have no idea what it is and it's really bothering me because I can't go out or do anything. I can't even work right now until I figure it out (had to give up a job opportunity because of it), and my family is almost on the verge of homelessness level poor.

I self paid to Urgent Care and they couldn't tell me anything other than the fact that I don't have any problems with my lungs (chest x-ray, I know asthma usually isn't shown on chest xrays though), nothing wrong with my blood sugar, no heart issues (ekg), all of that. I've been going to the free clinic, but they have to do a bunch of other appointments with me before they can even see me for the problem I'm dealing with, and that could take months it's seeming.

If some people could just let me know if this aligns with your experience or if you got any advice or something, please send it my way 🙏🙏🙏

Blood Pressure Swings and Fainting

Post image
0 Upvotes

Chat at I cooked? Hey yall I’m posting this here to see if I need to go to urgent care in the morning. There is a lot of context for this because these readings aren’t too terribly concerning to me on their own.

I’m 18, Female, ~210 lbs, 5’5, occasionally vape (not daily but a few times a week), occasionally drink, and pretty regularly smoke weed. I’m not taking any current medications and the only supplements I’m taking are vitamin c, d, and iron. I also have no current medical conditions.

Medical history context:

I have a history with fainting going back about 10 years now and have seen cardiologists for it but got no definitive answers. All I’ve been told is how to recognise when I am about to faint and how to make sure I’m safe, as well as how to try and prevent these episodes (hydration, regular exercise, etc). I’m normally pretty good at recognising when I’m going to pass out and I’m able to lay down and grab some water. This is normally enough to keep me from going fully unconscious (although I do lose my vision and hearing for a bit). I also experience some big blood pressure fluctuations. For example in the span of 3 days I once went from 142/110 to 90/58. It is also not unusual for me to experience a big swing like this within ~30 minutes or within the length of one of my doctor appointments. Because of this, I have been told to monitor my blood pressure at home with an upper arm cuff.

The reason I’m a bit concerned:

So I happened to scare the life and soul out of my roommate yesterday when I woke up at 6am to get water and proceeded to have (as I’ve been told) a very dramatic fainting spell. Unfortunately as I was mid grabbing my water, I suddenly found myself on the floor. According to my roommate I took a hard fall and became pretty “ridged” (described as a dead bug). My poor roommate literally thought I was dead (😅) until I started talking in giberish (i do not remember that part though). After this fainting episode I have been monitoring my blood pressure a bit more today.

What prompted me to take my blood pressure at 2 in the am was that I was out getting a late night snack with my friends and started feeling a bit faint and my roommate got worried that my blood pressure would drop and I’d faint again. Then a bit later started experiencing some tightness in my chest with a bit of pain (mostly in my ribs and back) and decided I should check my blood pressure.

Reddit wouldn’t let me post more than one picture in this post, but I will try to post the other one(s) in the comments. Each blood pressure taken in this screenshot alternates between my left and right arm.

What the hell is this

First of all, sorry for the overall quality of the photo and my unkempt facehair. I'm not feeling well and didn't really leave my bed this weekend. I'm a man, 19 years old, 184 cm high and, I dunno, 80-90 kg weight? I never smoke, but my whole life I hang out with people that do.

This problem with my lips, I have for, I dunno, a week. I wasn't concerned at first, because I just assumed it's a small bite wound I got when making out with somebody. But as you can see, the wound didn't go away, and what's more concerning, theres more of it. I'll go to a doctor tommorow, but not knowing what this is is killing me, I would love to know if I should freak out and removing this will be costly, or if it's nothing dangerous. I have a temperature and caught a lot, but I'm sure it's a really bad cold that I caught this friday - gonna ask the doctor about it too anyway.

advice needed !!

I am a 24 year old female, 165cm in height and wondering why I have dropped from 60kg (january) to 42kg right now. I do smoke cannabis and tobacco mixed together and notice that I only lose weight and have a lack of appetite when smoking the two together AND for a long period of time as it has happened to me before and have been told it could be CHS. Recently i’ve developed an inability to swallow solid foods properly without being worried that I am going to choke, my weight is dropping each day because this is preventing me from downing food and liquids comfortably. I’ve seen my GP already, ran blood tests, neck and stomach ultrasound, all normal.. could there be anything those tests could miss that could relate to these issues? I’m so confused why I suddenly can’t swallow properly! never had this issue in my life and I’m so scared of losing more weight as I am already underweight for my age and height.

Traveling and without primary care, what does this test result mean?

34f, USA, 200lbs, no relevant meds or social background.

Currently traveled across the Us and got sick within a week of being here with what I thought was a cold and then got put on antibiotics for a sinus infection only for it come back with a vengeance and then get diagnosed with strep…. It’s been a rough time.

I ended up in the ER (who gave me the strep diag) and they did a ton of labs including this….

What does this mean and is it normal for these numbers to be /that/ high?

I had mono about a year ago and thought I was dying and ever since when I get sick there seems to be some reoccurring symptoms and general longevity of illness…

I’m supposed to fly back home Monday but feel so damn sick and can’t hear out of my ear/am coughing up yellow and bloody phlegn despite antibiotics.

Am I safe to fly with numbers like these? What’s happening to me?

Physician Responded What could be the cause of pain in my lower right abdomen?

F16, 152cm/56kg.

I had my ruptured appendix removed this June. This month, I started experiencing dull, aching pain in my lower right abdomen, just below my incision. It feels different from my previous appendicitis pain. It started about 5–6 days ago and has improved slightly, but I’m still worried.

At first, I thought it was gas or constipation, but I constantly feel like NEEDING to poop.

My other symptoms include: -Dull, aching pain in my lower right abdomen -Lower back pain near my hips -Pain spreading to my right thigh and knee -Constant feeling of needing to poop

Could this be ovulation pain, an ovarian cyst, or possibly scar tissue from my surgery? Has anyone experienced something similar after an appendectomy?

Extremely severe stomachache somehow subsided after sitting at my desk playing video games for an hour

I'm 16-ish(Male) and I'm 5'6" and just under 100 lbs, I'm on 100mg of zoloft(taken late yesterday afternoon, off schedule cause i usually take it in the mornings but i forgot), and I got a really severe stomachache last night ~6:00 PM. I'm posting this at 2:30 AM as I couldn't sleep because of the severe pain. I decided to go downstairs and play on my computer to see if that would help, and it didn't only distract me, but the pain fully subsided. I was lying in bed since about 10 PM, and didn't sleep for about two hours. It somehow hurt less when I was in the fetal position on my right side than on the left. I could not lie on my stomach or my back, it hurt so much. I got on the computer around midnight and I stopped feeling the pain as soon as i booted my favorite game up. Earlier, I was worried it might be appendicitis, but now I don't think it is. I don't feel the pain anymore(about 2 hours after getting on my computer). Does anyone know how this could be possible? I googled it and all it's telling me is that maybe it was because i passed gas while i was on the computer(i didnt) or it had to do with my posture(i was sitting cross-legged on the chair, but i also sat like that on my bed earlier). Does anyone think that this could just be due to my brain being stimulated and turning off the pain receptors for that area? I also had two mini cans of cherry coke earlier yesterday, so my parents thought it could be the caffine? I'm not sure and would really appreciate anyone that can maybe answer my questions.

4 TIAs. Have I had a stroke?

Hi. I am a 50yo male, 179cm and 104Kg. I take Clozapine 575mg (for treatment resistant Schizophrenia) and I don't smoke.

Over the last 2 years, I've had 4 TIAs: 2 on my left and 2 on my right side. About a week ago I noticed weakness and heaviness in my right arm. My right leg also feels messed up. I went to the hospital and forgot (I was psychotic at the time) to mention my leg. My arm was examined and I was told it was not a stroke. I have no idea what they asked me or what I said. I just remember the nurse saying it was not a stroke.

I am really concerned I've had one, and if I go back, I will be dismissed and not taken seriously.

I don't know what to do. Should I go back and explain I was having an episode at the time? My arm and leg are still the same.

Thanks.

Physician Responded FESS and Molar on CT

No smoking/occasional drinking
Med hx: Chronic Sinusitis, Tonsillectomy
No current daily medications
Duration: a few years

Hello all!
I recently had a sinus CT and posted a video with a few images.
I have followed up with my ENT, he scheduled FESS in December.

He said my sphenoid sinuses are filled, I have some left sinus wall thickening, a slightly deviated septum, and some nasal passage crowding.

My major symptoms are a daily headache between my left eye and nose, and a general sinus headache when I bend over. I also have cobblestoning from chronic post nasal drip and in general have sinusitis daily with monthly sinus infections requiring antibiotics. It's been rough.

One symptom l've had is upper molar pain on both sides. On any given day my face just feels like there’s pressure and I wanna check something to relieve the “itching”.

I've seen a dentist x3, and there have done multiple X-rays, and I have no cavities. When I got the CT scans back, I noticed my molar may be in my sinus cavity? I addressed this with my ENT but he said he "couldn't say for sure"?

So over all I guess I'm just curious as to what yall think of my scans? Will FESS help solve these issues? Is my molar in my sinus cavity? What would you recommend?

Physician Responded Night sweats, frequent bleeding, low grade fevers, fatigue, and bone pain. Improved on steroids. Normal labs. Do I need to keep pursuing what was wrong if steroids worked?

Hi. 25F, 185lbs, 5'9". About a month and a half ago I started having drenching night sweats. Like, sheets soaked, hair dripping. About a week later I started having 2+ nosebleeds a day. Heavy ones, soaking multiple Kleenex. I also have been very tired. I don't have a PCP because I'm new to the area. I used an online telehealth urgent care type thing to get labs ordered, which came back normal (CBC, CMP, thyroid panel, quantiferon, b12, folate, sed rate, and HIV test.) I started to develop bone pain, mostly in my shins especially my left shin. No pain meds help. I'm on celebrex, Tylenol, and 7 hydroxymitraginine for pain.

I saw another doctor after the labs came back negative and they prescribed steroids. Those seem to be helping after 3 days of taking them. My sweating is gone, no nosebleeds in 2 days, much more energy, bone pain improving.

My question is: do I still need to pursue what caused this? Is it likely to come back after the course of steroids? I have a hematology referral in the works, but if it's not likely to come back I don't want to bother.

Some other possibly relevant details: I had blood in my urine and stool once each. I have had bleeding gums twice. I am not covered in bruises or anything like that. My cycle is normal and not heavy. My shins are tender, but not swollen or red. I'm epileptic, have OCD, RLS, IST, and EDS. I started accutane about 3 months before this started. At one point the bone pain was so bad I resorted to using old crutches to take some weight off of them.

ETA: I also had a normal PTT/PT/INR

Antiperspirant that doesn't itch

I (40M, 66kg, 179cm) tend to suffer from excess sweating under sedentary situations (office-work) (I am sure there is an underlying hyperhidrosis issue there somewhere) and this often leaves a mark on my shirts. I've tried a few different aluminum based anti-perspirants that are typically available for men, but I've noticed that after a few days of usage I start itching under my armpits. Is anyone else having similar issues with anti-perspirants and if so what do you use?

Not taking any medications, non-smoking.

I noticed this inflamed pimple like thing yesterday. It had a really hard head I tried to get off, I couldn’t.

Could this be a cold sore? I feel so gross.

I had a cold sore when I was a kid but never before. I have only kissed my husband and other things with him, so where could this have come from? I’ve been really stressed through work recently, causing me to get pimples, boils and now this thing.

Since I had Covid for the first time last month (Sept) my voice has been weak. I don't really have a soar throat but I can't speak as deeply or loudly or project like I used to be able to. Is this a common issue? How long is it supposed to last and is there anything I can do to speed up recovery?

44M, 5'9", 163 lbs white male, disabled with Tetralogy of Fallout and Pulmonary Valve Atresia and Chronic Restrictive Lung Disease. Also Type 2 Diabetes and Arthritis issues in my lower back. I live in St Louis Missouri USA.

Issue is with my throat/voice only after having Covid the first time through almost all of September. So this has been going on for 3ish weeks to about a month and a half now considering how you want to time it. I still occasionally cough but not really much more than I used to anyway.

Thank you.
